  1. He also left behind three empty shell casings and what was left of his lunch (fried chicken, if memory serves). At the range he was firing a minimal, if any, windage correction was needed. Since when has any experienced rifleman needed a spotter round at 80 yards??? The three shots can be, and have been, fired in the time frame allotted. Most folks, yourself evidently included, assume LHO had to load, aim, and fire the first round withing that time frame...but he didn't. The "clock" starts when the first shot is fired. Only two more are needed to be loaded, aimed, and fired. A person who had been practicing rapid fire drills with the same rifle for weeks would have absolutely no trouble getting off three very quick and sufficiently accurate shots. In fact, CBS performed tests in 1967 that show a skilled marksman with a little practice could repeat Oswalds shots. www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVYrcxhBvY4&feature=related Funny how the theorists ignore evidence against them for more than 40 years. 2. I agree 100%. Just because a business is a contractor with the US government should not mean they are immune from the same responsibilities as a business that is not a contractor with the government. 3. Ok, just to liven things up, I'll play Devil's Advocate here. Unless they are grossly negligent, why should a contractor be held responsible for the illegal deeds of it's employees? And, if they are grossly negligent and create an atmosphere that encourages sexual harrassment, including rape, will not most courts throw out any clause in an employees contract whereby the employees agrees not to file suit? 4. Yep, your mad because she didn't die. Got news for ye, Bud......not everyone thinks dying is so freakin' glorious. Maybe you get some kind of macho-man thrill from battle but don't call her a failure because she didn't die. Unless you were there next to her and KNOW FOR A FACT what she went through in those few moments then you have no right to say she messed up. You want someone to blame for the media frenzy, blame the media. If you are pissed because you aren't getting the attention someone else got, then you are fighting for the wrong reasons. 5. Why would we refresh your memory when you already know the whole story about how the Jessica Lynch mission was filmed in Hollywood somewhere? On a serious note though Jessica Lynch is no hero, she is a failure. The fame she received was pathetic. She was rewarded for failing to do her job. Far greater soldiers have accomplished much more and received much less gratitude than she received. Sure " far greater soldiers have accomplished much more and received much less gratitude than she received", no argument there. But to call her a failure because she wasn't killed with the rest of her outfit is pretty lame. 6. Agreed. Unfortunately the only viable alternatives to an effective (expensive) defense is MAD or to just give in. I much prefer a defense that, even if imperfect, makes it as difficult as possible for an adversary to accomplish his goal. 7. Obviously there is no "ideal" for everyone. What works for you will depend on your training, physical strength, and disposition, as well as your ability to practice regularly. Agreed. I shoot quite often and under purposely varied conditions, i.e. poor lighting, into bright light, weak hand, weak eye, etc. I am physically large enough that, with all the practice I get, I can handle my Springfield .45 very comfortably. My girlfriend is small-medium stature and cannot handle a .45 comfortably so she chooses a Lady Smith .38 revolver. 8. I agree with him on the use of a shotgun. Very hard to beat, if it can be. I disagree with his reasoning behind the swap from .45 to 9mm. The change was made to bring the US more in line with what our allies were using. To say it was to wound instead of kill is ignorant. A sidearm is used when and only when the assailant is very close; close enough to warrant being stopped...NOW! If he is close enough to wound with a 9, he is close enough to hurt you wounded. 9. would the economy be more or less efficient if there were no patents? Eliminating patents would open such a big can of worms I don't think anyone could say with much certainty how the economy would respond though the financial status of inventors would almost certainly be worse. 10. Patent laws are a balance between protecting the inventors right to profit from his/her invention before others and allowing others to improve upon the technology. Both are worthwhile aspects. 11. Well, if they didn't define what was being averaged, and how it was calculated, that could be correct. The median does not have to equal the mean That other 20% must really suck behind the wheel. 13. You use the term "redneck" as if it were a bad thing. Before doing so maybe you should find out the origins of the term. Here's some help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redneck BTW, I don't see much difference between them forcing women to cover their faces and us here in the good ol' USA making women keep their breasts covered. Other rights are something else altogether. 14. Yep. Just like the comic who once theorized that carrying a bomb onto an airplane reduced the chances his plane would be blown up. After all, what are the chances of getting on the same plane with two bombs?? 16. A quick guess would be that people who take a stand against an attacker are 4.5 times more likely to get shot and 4.2 times more likely to be killed than those who don't. Studys such as this one would also find that truck drivers are xx times more likely to die in a trucking accident than non-truckers. 17. I am interested in seeing how people rate their own abilities without having definitive preset standards. If we give absolute standards to go by then it would be easy and opinion would not matter since the cold, hard facts would tell the truth. I know it hurts to have to think, but I'm sure most here can handle the task. OK, I made it through central Boston (MA) without an accident, which is clear evidence of amazingly high driving skills. Having negotiated through Boston myself I would agree with you 100%. 19. So you believe the media when they say they offered him three choices, yet you don't when they say the kid has no problem with the way it was resolved. Yes, they said he was offered three choices. However, it was you who assumes they were offered in a violent and physically intimidating manner. You have no better idea how they approached the kid than anyone else here. Yet, still, the fact remains that they did offer to take the issue to the authorities and let them sort it out. Why, in your infinite wisdom, did the kid not take this option especially if he was as innocent and victimized as you claim? 21. The only metric I will give is this: The best highway driver i know has been a professional truck driver for over 35 years. He has never had a ticket and has never been involved in a traffic accident after over 4,000,000 miles. He is one of the few I would consider "very much above average". The worst driver i know crashed and totaled several vehicles before the state took away his license at age 24. Can't blame alcohol or drugs since he never touched either. Luckily he never hurt anyone but himself. Although i have never been involved in an accident I have had several tickets and lack the patience I see in truly excellent drivers. Therefor I consider myself just a tad better than average, but not much. 22. Well, what say ye? Do your skills strike envy into the hearts of professional racers ....or fear into the hearts of all who share the road? 23. And there shows more naiveté; kidnapping usually requires you move a person so many feet. What you're trying to say is that you could be charged with illegal or wrongful detention. I wouldn't worry about that, but using your example I wouldn't shoot him in the back as he's fleeing. The difference is that the alleged flag burner was at home, so your example is jokingly invalid. You see there...another example of why I should have watched more crime shows on TV. I think there are several people here...myself included...waiting for you to post where the vets actually made a threat against the kid. Or are you just assuming that from what they said? 24. Maybe SC has a following that is indeed higher than average IQ? Food for thought. Unlikely. My tested IQ is well above average, but I believe I would score well below average on some unmeasured elements that I consider to be a part of intelligence. For example, I'd consider creativity to be an important element of intelligence, and if one could objectively quantify it, I'd likely be found lacking. Blues, Dave I would probably balance out the areas where your skills are lacking. I have always been very creative yet lack skills in mathematics that would have made getting my degree a lot easier. Calculus still is not nice to me.
