  1. Opinion does NOT mean mandate, does it ?
  2. Sounds like an extremely subjective and pointless opinion. I bet you will find many riggers in your immediate area willing to pack it. Fuck narrow minded people. This guy may just have a container he wants to sell you :)
  3. I will agree with his decision AFTER FACTUAL EVIDENCE. I just packed a Reflex a month ago and though it's second rarest thing I pack next to a Racer, I don't feel they are much different than your standard "pin on the front" containers. Just closing is a little different. And it's not like one cannot read a manual :) So please ask him for where his "end of life" information comes from. Cause if it's for real, I don't want to remain ignorant. cya
  4. If you can localize the area then use shout and a toothbush. first wet the area for a few minutes, then shout it, then wait some more and then use a toothbrush to wash the stain away. Rinse very thoroughly. this only works if you can isolate the part that you are washing. Otherwise you will need to disassemble the whole rig...
  5. Nope, they are not responsible for objects coming from the road. The same reason a dump truck does not have to pay for the windshield of a car that was following too close. haha - that's just too funny. Just because there's the sign on the back of the vehicle saying they are not responsible, that has very little bearing on what the law says. Just like the skydiving waivers - you cannot waive negligence. I know people who got paid for broken/cracked windshields due to shit falling off commercial vehicles (dump truck, and a flatbed carrying heavy construction equipment).
  6. that should move the container up, and thus the chest strap lower. Of course you can call Sunpath tomorrow and see what they say...
  7. explained here : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2692215
  8. I have done quite a few. All with the permission of the tandem master. Every passenger seems to have liked it immensely. I definitely don't get too close, probably closest I have done was 200ft.
  9. My guess is if you call UPT, they will be happy to sell/send you a few. I got a few from PIA this year...
  10. I had an a**hole sell me a piece of network gear with an unrecoverable password, which made it a large paperweight. I even contacted the mfgr, but since the SN tag was gone, there was nothing they could do. The seller ignored all my emails, and a week later his eBay account was gone. I contacted eBay; They said "contact PayPal". I contacted PayPal: They asked if I had received anything. When I said I had, they informed me that IF THE SELLER SHIPPED ME *SOMETHING*, *ANYTHING*, THEN THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. i.e. their "buyer protection" doesn't mean squat. And how long ago was this ? I have had numerous successful chargebacks for items I received that were not as stated. Keep in mind there's a big difference for pre-eBay acquired paypal.
  11. also, from their User Agreement : 2.1 Eligibility. To be eligible for our Services, you must be at least 18 years old and a resident of the United States or one of the countries listed... whole agreement here : https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/ua_pop-outside&popup=1 how exactly does your 17 year old have an account ?
  12. In that case I call "hearsay". It's real easy to bash others based on 2nd hand information.
  13. no matter what requirements are imposed, the idiots will find ways to be idiots. wasn't the dude who fell out of his harness this year getting more or less formal instruction ? So much for reqs ... let's not overregulate the fun out of the sport.
  14. Well, as you can tell I'm not much of a computer gal, but on his first attempt he took it out and hooked it up to a laptop. When that didn't work he took it to his shop to use a different program that bypasses Windows and just reads data on the disk. He called me today and said that the program is not able to get past 10% of the hard drive. I'm just wondering if there are other methods/companies out there who are able to retrieve lost data using different methods. In any case I'll hold onto the hard drive but right now I'll best put my meager funds towards a new computer... and plenty of external backup Unless it suffered physical damage, it should 100% recoverable by professionals. It will cost you a pretty penny though, as it is done with specialized hardware and software. All the above mentioned websites are good sources, as well as googling for someone local in your area who does data recovery.
  15. How exactly did paypal "let" someone into your sons account ? And how (and where) did the account get "emptied" into, especially how was it done over the phone ? Something is not adding up in your story, or in the way you tell it.
  16. Funny - If you receive money by paypal as a private user, you get charged less than a 1% more than a business that will take your credit card. Paypal works well. The charges are reasonable (unless of course you think all businesses should work for free). Send a regular check - wait 2-4 days for the mail, and up to 2 weeks for it to clear. Send a Money order - pay $3-$7 to make it, wait 2-4 days for the mail, and then wait for it to clear. Send a wire transfer- pay $10-$30 to send it, the recipient will pay $10-$20 to receive it, but it's instant . Send Western Union - pay a certain percentage to send, it's instant. Somehow get to where the gear is and pay cash - cost of gas/airfaire. All those transactions also involve opportunity cost, with paypal having the lowest, unless you have the person meet you somewhere where you are already going.
  17. and a fairly fresh and helpful old posts : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3588161;search_string=chicagoland;#3588161
  18. the frame grab from the handcam showed a person on their belly falling away from the deploying tandem. FWIW it could have been someone on their belly facing the tandem, and not falling past them.
  19. Traithlons are ZP. Startrac is F111. My recommendation is a larger/domed or pocketed slider, it will do a hell of a lot more than rolling the nose.
  20. as there are many other nicknamed Sparky, it would be cool if you edit the thread title with the persons real name. Otherwise some of us gasp ... tnx
  21. Electronic humane kill traps at any hardware store powered by AA batteries. They have an LED light indicating being armed and having a kill. And are quite effective.
  22. I'll show up for one of the weekends for sure. got 4 wingsuits to bring :)
  23. firewire - video transfer only USB - access to the flash card as a drive
  24. As do Infinitys. as do a few other brands that other posters will be recommending :)
