that's just too funny. Many MANY people (myself included) have done BASE jumps with rounds from cliffs and bridges (into water of course). You just have to remember that rounds take a bit longer to inflate at those airspeeds and don't slow you down until full inflation. So use a large pilot chute, and give yourself proper altitude. Done at Bridge Day (876ft) by many jumpers, and at Perrine (486ft) by even more... of course "back in the day" many did their first BASE jumps with rounds as they simply used their regular skydiving containers with no mains :)

Somewhere about jump 17. Traded it around jump 100 for an even nicer and newer rig, and only paid $500 to do that. I though it was a steal. good luck !

Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
likestojump replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I would cut RISERS (close to my shoulders), not lines. I would not want two feet of risers flapping above me when deploying my main... I doubt most of us would be thinking of the midlly annoying but quite safe 20" of reserve risers flapping in the wind - all while hurling towards earth at a fairly nerverecking speed. I have suggested cutting the lines because : 1) risers (especially Type 7 fronts) are fairly thick. 2) twisted up risers will need to be cut one by one, and while they are under tension, they are also no aligned straight for the blade to chop 3) the lines, twisted together (I used the word vine), may feel like a solid piece of rope, but just like any rope, you can easily cut it by cutting a fiber at a time (which is in fact how any rope is cut, just very fast ) 4) lastly, as that ball of shit was quite twisetd and had no rhyme or reason to it, it's quite possible that some of the risers had less tension than others, which will require a sequenced cutting of each one individually, which in turn requires too much thinking and/or guesswork, neither of which one can afford in a high speed malfunction. I do agree 105% with using a real metal hookknife. The plastic ones are great for cutting E thread on the ground, that's about it. just thinking out loud ... :) -
the W** referrs to CONTAINER sizing. The harness sizing is stamped on label attached to the right rear reserve riser, and specifies Yoke, MLW and Lateral sizes in terms of XS/S/M/L (XtraSmall-Large, etc)

Skyhook RSL snag on door handle, at pin cover flap
likestojump replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ok, on the same topic - am I a fool for thinking - "hook knife the that vine of lines and then deploy your main" I would be scared shitless deploying my main into that ball of shit. I cannot imagine that a streamer consisting of both your main and reserve can be pleasant. -
Which risers/velcro-less toggles would you buy??
likestojump replied to canadianjumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had some velcro risers convereted to "tru-lock -like" risers. It's fairly simple - you unpick the velcro, add a pocket for the straight pin on the bottom, and add the elastic for keeping the line. On the toggle you just add the straight pin on the bottom. Should be a $25 jobbie by any competent rigger with a straight and zigzag machine. And you can have the risers YOUR way :) -
ATTENTION - WILL STRIBLING - WATCH OUT FOR SCAM!

Correction. He longs on and READS THE FORUMS. the "last login" date only gets updated when you enter the forums. If you were to just surf/post classifieds, the data will not update. Good luck with the dude, I hope he mans up and takes care of the problem. -
if you are willing to pay for it, you can always replace the whole airlock piece in that cell. May be a bit expensive though :)

Shah, are you basing your blanket statement about engineers on the single individual that you know ? I happen to have lots of friends with engineering degrees and backgrounds, and overwhelming majority are quite socially able.

nice poll. I bet you will be told to use the classifieds http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/page.cgi?page=post_ad;d=1 But your price is reasonable, so it should sell fast.

contempt for "A" licences
likestojump replied to BaronVonBoll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's weird. I am more used to people asking how many jumps one has when coming to a new dropzone. I am 9 years into an A license still :) -
How do you compare the badassness of a Pilot to that of a Sabre2 or Safire2 ?

Search is your friend. lots of threads with pictures : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1425133;search_string=mirage%20pictures;#1425133 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3502166; Also, like i said before - unless you put them side by side, or have the same person wear the container, you cannot tell an MO apart from an M7

Doing tandems vs. NO skydives
likestojump replied to ocb217's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
that's easy "what mama don't know can't hurt her". They are not being rational about it, so you may be going against their wishes, but doing it because it's safer. also teh part about being 18+ and an adult is important too. Don't let you parents control your life. Respect them and their opinions but realize they may not be always right or acting in your interest. Sometimes they aer just older fashioned with not enough relevant information to really make their opinion matter. -

Be even more careful, gang,, my understanding is that if you deposit it, now they have your bank routing number and account number, very very bad, trust me. that's incorrect. "they" have nothing, as they don't get to see the copy of the canceled draft, being that it does not belong to "them" -
some questions about selling the entire rig
likestojump replied to Staso's topic in Gear and Rigging
it will be a significantly cheaper if you ship a rig via fedex or ups vs. USPS -
What are your first impressions of a dropzone...
likestojump replied to Husker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
FWIW I visited the DZ while driving from the GoFast Royal Gorge event in Sept 2007. The place was nice, the plane still had the same sticker :), and the whole facility had a look of a club rather than a commercial operation. I felt warm and welcome. I talked to the "guy in charge" and he was very knowledgeable and pleasant. He did say how much he hates the USPA and actually showed me the sticker, but he was not unreasonable, nor did he sound like he is of his rocker - I have met plenty of other people before and since who dislike the USPA. I would not have hesitated to jump there. -
my experience with a Sabre2-107 loaded just a hair over 1.9 has been that it flies ok, but falls out of a sky quite fast. I did not enjoy it.

This is not a legal issue with the FAA in the US. As prudent as it may be to consider these specifications, there is no FAR to prohibit a skydiver from exceeding these. The TSO weight specification does not mean the system will fail when exceeded, merely that this is the extent to which it has been tested. The OP's gear-up weight will exceed 254 lbs, but not by much. Caution is certainly appropriate if specs. are to be exceeded. huh ? My understanding is that the problem is purely legal. If you are operating outside the TSO limit, you are braking the FAR, that's how I understood it. Similar to getting an STC, but hillbillifying the work - it will be an FAR violation. Am I wrong ?

some dbags (Mirage for example) have a large enough eye on the bridle where you can girth hitch the bridle/bag trough the ring on the canopy. Others have only a small openings where you need to use a slink or a rapide link to attach the bridle to the canopy. extra ring on the bag ? I can think of a few, so could you post a picture so we don't have to guess ? :) tnx
-
There was no call to treat him abusively like that. Skygod attitudes like that suck ass. I disagree on both points. How uncommon sense is to shake the sand out through the openings (nose) of the canopy ? It doesn't take a skygod attitude or any jumps to figure out that sand comes out through where it came in. Personally, I think the OP is trolling, and thus the harshness of my reply.
-
If you have 60 jumps you have no business flying a vengeance. If you think that washing a canopy with a hose will wash the sand out from inside the cells, you have no business doing anything that requires thinking. Stay safe, stay on the ground.

if you look closely, most CR123 batteries list as compatible to CR123A. I used them without a problem.

Here's a baseline for a new one: http://www.nationalparachute.com/page8.html and here's a more realistic pricelist that shows what they really sell for as opposed to MSRP http://www.parachuteshop.com/NATIONAL_Parachutes.htm
