oh, and surely, for someone who has a LAP rating listed on their profile, you are not scared of the manufacturer relining a canopy :) ?
-
what poster above me said. also, you may just ask them to give you a credit, to prorate the shorter life of a 550 lineset, and keep jumping it. just a thought, as that will keep you in the air.

C17 harness willl be too short for you. you would be much better and more comfortable using a C18. not matter how the rig had been rebuilt, I can still spot an old Javelin hiding under that owly rig :)

I concur, the value is spot on.

I wear an empty BASE harness under my sport rig, and pack the main in a trashbag, and deploy 1 sec after exit. this gives me separate low profile cutaway handle that's not exposed, yet provides for a clean cutaway. after that I deploy my regular main via the "standard" method. the problem with rigging tersh rings, is that you also need to rig a safe and snag-free release system. Think of Jarret Martin's accident...

your IIRC is WRONG. they spotted A PERSON. There had been no identification of that person. The article is very clear in that. TEXT: Posse members patrolled the canyons near Skunk Spring sighting a person on the ridge between Ledger and Cattleman’s Canyon just as darkness closed in. That man did not respond to a hail from the posse, but slipped over the ridge out of sight instead.

In the 80s a lot of people were jumping Racers what has changed since then ? NOT THE RACER :( until JumpShaack decides to be a bit more modern, people will continue to dislike them. And please don't give me the "speedbag is god's gift to freeflyers".

Depending on the condition, colors and most importantly the size of canopies and person it was made for it will fetch $200 to $600 if it's made for a beginner kinda gear - i.e. 5'10" person and a 190/210 main then you have a much better chance of selling it. post it up in the classifieds with a good description and a pictures and it will sell... eventually. or if Wendy likes it, you can sell it to her dirt cheap :)

eBay has nothing to do with it, and is not "stupid". however, if in fact the seller has described the item wrong, you most certainly can file a dispute and get your $$$ back. or just email the seller, majority are very reasonable and will work with you. also it may be a simple fact of differing opinions about the quite subjective term "medium built"

B.A.S.E. with your sport parachute rig?
likestojump replied to amttap's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
..." ................................................................................................ Very few ZP canopies are compatible with BASE jumping. Triathlon 230 is the only one that comes to mind. Triathlon 260 would be even better, if you could find one. Aerodyne only built a handful of Triathlon 260s. Then again, Triathlon is really little more than my old Cruiselite 220 updated with modern materials. Rob, would you jump a 900ft cliff slider up on a Tri 230/260 ? Would you jump a 300ft antenna slider down/off on a Tri 230/260 ? -
SabRE, not SabER :) how many jumps on the canopy ? any patches/rips ? how ridiculous are the colors ?

to Africa ? a ring ? Don't have they nice and cheap conflict diamonds there ? :) IT sounds like a scam with a stolen Paypal account. I would forgo using paypal for this, and ask them to send you either : USPS money orders, and go the the Post Office, cash them and only AFTERWARDS send the ring OR Western Union transfer, go to the WU office, get the cash, and only AFTERWARDS send the ring. I have a lifetime of mailorder and this has a very bad smell to it

it's only uncommon if you are watching dusty VHS tapes. -
B.A.S.E. with your sport parachute rig?

if you are not "fixin" to do it - why do you ask ? a Sabre2 is a piss poor choice of a canopy for BASE. It's high aspect ratio ZP 9cell with microlines. Many years ago when BD allowed Sabres, someone broke both their legs by by landing his linetwisted Sabre on the railroad tracks - a direct result of the higher aspect ratio. Slider down Sabre with microlines will hurt, is very likely to give a severe off-heading and/or linetwists and being that you will end up needing to dbag/sleeve it due to the lack of a tailpocket it will be a fucken mess that you should avoid altogether by using normal gear. more questions can be asked here : http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi In short, with as far as the modern BASE gear has come, you really should be jumping a purpose built canopy/container instead of using a band-aid solution from the 80s. -
Does anybody know/dealt with Ronald David Vento?
likestojump replied to Scootersv's topic in Gear and Rigging
Andy, at least 2 people got screwed by this Vento person, and you blame the victim(s) ? Is this normal practice for you ? -
you are quite skinny. Wings has their measurements stamped on the reserve riser. you need a M or L Yoke, a M MLW and S or M Laterals. Any dimensions above that will make the rig very incomfortable. An L MLW will be too long for you. I am saying this assuming you are proportionately sized ( 32/33 pants, 39 chest, etc)

that is a very good question. Unlike in a will, the manual does not explicitly state that it supersedes all previous versions. Perhaps we should ask FAA for interpretation. I am seeing the floodgates, and they are half open :) .I do know that until I am told otherwise by PPI/FAA/FFE I am not touching any of their stuff past 20 year mark. Anybody want to mini softies that are too old ? :)
-
Just wanted to bring this up to the attention of people who care. Take a look at the new Softie (ParaPhernalia) Manual, revised 08/09. Specifically look at page 10, section 1.4 1.4 SERVICE LIFE Independent testing of aged nylon materials has proven that its strength degrades over time, therefore, Para-Phernalia, Inc. and Free Flight Enterprises have established a 20-year service life from the date of component manufacture for the Softie Pilot Emergency System and the Preserve line of emergency parachutes.

here for a better look at that Talon. yeah, i like the colors too.

why not post a pic here ? and tell us where it was stolen.

Correction - a handle you can hook your thumb through. DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A D OR A METAL HANDLE. Here's a nice VooDoo version. I think it's cleaner and more user friendly.

the cases you are referring to, both federal ( U.S. v. Gravity Sports, Ltd. which was decided citing U.S. v. Oxx ) the appelate court judge decided that as the NPS has a regulation in place against delivery by parachutes, the defendants were still in violation regardless of how the parachute is classified. here's the case : http://openjurist.org/127/f3d/1277 what I am reading from that, is that it should have no bearing on skydiving, as there's no prohibition and we are not dealing with NPS rules. just speculating. not a lawyer.

What comes with what when purchasing seperately?
likestojump replied to eightate8at8's topic in Gear and Rigging
a rigger, being a person who rigs, packs, basically your nylon grease monkey - how the hell do they know what is a good deal ? Wouldn't a gear seller/reseller be a much more knowledgeable resource ? I could be wrong, but Dave DeWolf never mentioned anything about pricing and the gear market.
