  1. Im with you, I dont think I will ever buy gear more than 7 or so years old. I understand that a rig and canopy can be in great condition even past that age, but at the same time, with time comes innovation, id rather pay a bit more for a rig and canopy with less jumps and newer more comfortable options. Its gotta save my life, so Ill spend the extra grand. Just the way I feel about it, money can be replaced, I cant be. :\ -Evo That's funny as hell to hear. This year I downsized from my 2005 Mirage to a 2001 Javelin, and trust me, the age was not a factor. It's even funnier being how much gear I sell and buy - I am yet to have to stumble upon someone selling their stuff because it's "too old". This of course raises the ethical question - if you think that gear that's 7 years old (btw, why such an ambiguous number ?) is not good enough to jump - would you still sell it to "unsuspecting newbie" or do you just trash it ?
  2. that's a rather interesting statement to make. Do you feel that getting a Tandem rating with the minimal amount of jumps is better than with more experience, or do you simply feel that continuing skydiving is not worth or not affordable without getting a Tandem rating at 500 vs 800+ skydives ?
  3. you'll be hard pressed to get $2500 for your gear. And your post may be deleted shortly by one of the mods as "advertising is not allowed" Post it here : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/page.cgi?page=post_ad;d=1 and sell the helmet separately, you'll end up getting more $$$ overall. good luck in your future ventures
  4. Which reserve do you have that the manufacturer specifies 20 year life on ? to the best of my knowledge Sunpath does not put an age limit on their containers.
  5. you need to post pictures, otherwise most of the advice will be speculative and useless
  6. Not to be a dick, but this really, really irks me. How can you say that you are "really anal about everything" when you have obviously never did a continuity check on your canopy, or even worse, discounted the line groups "feeling weird" before stuffing that ball of junk into the dbag ? And you also missed the swoop pond while landing :)
  7. Well... The very few sets of new gear that I sell, I make sure that at the least the deposit equals the loss I will have to take to resell the gear fast and still make some money. Otherwise, like the poster above said - take enough of a deposit to make it worth your time. Can't deposit promises into the bank account :(
  8. +1 I sold and subsequently bought a shit ton of gear. Bad experiences have been to a minimum, and the only time I have gotten burned was absolutely 100% my fault - so I wrote it off as a learning experience. Knowing people at other dropzones is nice, brokering through other trusted people is nice too. But sometimes none of these are options work. Hell, I have people from overseas wiring me money fairly regularly - but I suppose by now I have a bit of a reputation with their peers. Bottom line to this is that asshats have no place in this sport, but unfortunately there will always be a few :(
  9. Got a mint, like new condition book. As far as I can tell it dates to 1964. Anybody familiar with it ? (pics attached)
  10. I am betting it's just a National back parachute. Look at the pics : http://www.nationalparachute.com/page15.html just another group of wankers trying to make money off people's paranoia.
  11. I lend gear out often. But I always make sure that the people know what the cost of the gear is, and that I may expect them to buy the gear from me if they fuck it up, rather than repair it - AT MY DISCRETION. If they tell me they cannot afford it, I simply tell them that than they cannot afford to jump it either. Every situation is different...
  12. Why not look at the packing data card ? It should list the AAD SN as well.
  13. Will he regret it if he goes to CSC ?
  14. at the risk of sounding like a topmount Nazi : that sidemount looks snagga-lisious !
  15. funny, I called Sunpath yesterday as well, during their business hours and Aggie answered all the questions I had. Perhaps replace user, press any key to continue ?
  16. I bet PD said the following PRIOR to the clamp test : A clamp test has been recommended on the top skins due to sweat soak and sun fading. A clamp test is where we pull up to 25 pounds on the fabric, if the fabric is going to fail we would rather it fail on our table instead of while you are in the air. The test is at no charge to you but we are unable to proceed without your authorization in which case you authorized it - and are fully responsible for the conseqences. In my experience PD has never done any tests or performed any service without getting my authorization first.
  17. There's a shitload of space to put up a tent. I also slept on one of the couches there, but that's never guaranteed nor may you get a good sleep. Lucky for me it was Sunday night :)
  18. as a matter of fact- yes, many canopies that fail the clamp test will still fly fine. I have jumped a few different ones that later failed the pull. They flew no different than after the cell topskin replacement, but sure looked A LOT better :)
  19. wow. for MONTHS he had ads in the classifieds trying to buy Stilhoutte 210, 190, 170 Spectre 170/190 Storm 170-190 I exchanged emails with him from May 2008 until Feb 2009 when I finally told him to make his mind up :) Perhaps his account got hacked, but in my experience he has been very unstable, but not shady. Never exchanged any $$$ though. He was listing himself as based in Portugal.
  20. based on the things I packed into a M4 I would say it will work, but it's not a good every day combination.
  21. I have used a Heatwave 135 w/ hmod in an M4 - it was a pleasure to get into the dbag :). It was loose, but not dangerous - I do think anything smaller would not be a good idea.
  22. That would be my guess :) Replace user, press any key to continue.
  23. The Cypres DOM makes a pretty substantial price swing - what is it ?
  24. so you are going to LOGBOOK DEL PRESS AND HOLD MODE WHILE HOLDING MODE - PRES AND HOLD SET and nothing happens ?
  25. at which step did you have issues ? setting all altitudes to 100 ? finding LOGBOOK DEL in the menu ? getting it to countdown from 500 ? other ?
