  1. Unfortunately when you are buying a car it's common sense that the steering wheel is included. When buying/selling skydiving gear many people ASSume that risers are part of the canopy, that the freebag is part of the reserve. Why ? Because it's easier that way :) If the person charged you a premium then you should press the case. If the person said "complete container with all the parts" you should press the case. If you got a $150 container, then I would highly doubt they would be willing to give you $68 back. Unfortunately you cannot report the user per se, not like leaving negative feedback on eBay. You can however file a paypal dispute if that was the payment method you chose. Good luck !
  2. I have packed a bunch of different J3 Javelins with Sabre2-170s, and I can tell you a 190 9cell will require a ugly long closing loop and wont be too pretty.
  3. +1, the used pricing is spot on, that has been my experience as well. Lastly, if you are payign $300 for a used VectorII with it's square shape and velcro all over, think that it may be worth it to spend another $200-300 for a slightly newer Javelin with tucktab riser covers and much more modern look. Just a thought :)
  4. The jump went fine. The opening was nice and soft. The canopy is quite slow to turn, and the flare is very different from what I am used to, but I felt it was nice and solid. I have plenty experience flying large BASE canopies, and this chute opened softer, turned slower, and had a much weaker bottom end to it. I still stood it up exactly where I wanted to, but my flare was a lot higher than it usually is on large 7 cell F111 canopies. rate of decent fluctuated between 13ft/sec and 16ft/sec. Closest thing I flew to this canopy is a ragged out Raven :)
  5. Myself and many others have jumped gear much older than that. If it is well maintained it's just fine. You won't be able to do many things with it, but it should keep you safe on your belly. think about it this way - 20 years is just a number. Not like EVERY 19 year old rig is safe, and EVERY 21 year old rig is junk :)
  6. yop, Parafoil 252 is the correct answer. This one was shipped to the Army 11/13/1983 (as per NAA). From the looks of it it has very few if any jumps.
  7. this should be pretty easy. Got this in mint shape, does not seem like it has any jumps. Jumped it once.
  8. I never stated my opinion, because I believe that it's quite subjective. Many may not feel that the extra $$$ for skyhook is necessary, they may have second thoughts about some other features of certain containers. I have had a Mirage, two Infinities, and two Javelins. I have jumped many others that I thought were fine. Personally - whichever container I feel is safe and gets me a good deal is what I would be sticking with. When ordering new, 30 weeks+ to wait for a new Javelin or 8 weeks to wait for a Mirage would be a big determining factor as well.
  9. Yeah right... http://www.basik.fr/en/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=189&category_id=6&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=1&vmcchk=1 Way to argue Sangi. yourself with 98 jumps and little time in the sport you just state that you disagree without providing any facts, while a 35 year sport veteran with 2000+ jumps and a 2 rigger ratings provides his coherent reasons as to why he thinks something else is superior. way to win an argument Sangi ! PS those who may not read the BASE forum should know that Sangi was voted close to the top as the most annoying poster there
  10. and here are brand new HMA (PD Katana)
  11. here is a picture of BRAND NEW no jumps Vectran (PD Velocity)
  12. either Vectran or HMA, but I am leaning towards the Vectran (they are a bit thick). I would wonder how they have so much friction burn at only 10 jumps.... talking to PD they did Microline, and then went straight for HMA on Katanas. At least that's what I was told when I asked them a few months ago :)
  13. I am guessing the blade fell out ?
  14. Is VSE's customer service really better than any other experience you have had ? Personally, I have had VSE do a few harness resizes and the work was perfect, and very quick. And the price was right too :) I'd say my worst experience has been with two OTHER manufacturers - one took over a week to return my phone calls about ordering a replacement deployment bag for a currently produced container, the other one could not give me a simple spec on their product. yuk ! :(
  15. hey, I did not mean to say that your opinion is wrong - it is not. Those things are quite subjective, and given the choice some may feel a nicer canopy is better as their intrinsic values are different. Technically and practically - new container is a better choice, but offsetting for the varying human psyche - the answer varies. no way to make this a blanket statement :)
  16. I call TRIPLE bullshit on this one. A new canopy is no fun to pack, and it's a bitch to find an old (used) harness that will fit you well. If given a choice, I would take a new container, and a used canopy. Not like most people stick with their canopies longer than their harnesses.
  17. I bet you are referring to a flat pro-stack. You start with the reserve laying on it's side and then stack it up in a PRO position. Afterward you just dress it like any over-the-shoulder packjob. The only difference between what you refer to as PRO vs what you refer to as FLAT - is that one is started on the shoulder, other on the ground. Once the canopy touches the ground, the work and look is the same.
  18. IMHO, best insurance against dying skydiving - is GOOD TRAINING
  19. the Mirage can still be ordered with such a bag, though it does not use velcro. I have both types and think that split design is quite usefull. http://www.miragesys.com/products/?loc=detail&id=1&iid=1041
  20. I agree with Ben. But realistically it's two fold : If you are always getting cold feet because of gear fear - get a new reserve, it's the cheapest part of the skydiving system. If you understand and trust a competent rigger to give a used reserve a clean bill of health - buy a new container with your colors and most of all that fits you well.
  21. how about center line elongation ? That would cause the PC to stay inflated, and in turn it would have to orbit causing it to spin. Simple thing to do if that's the case is to put a knot or two in the kill line at the canopy attachment point, which would reduce it's length.
  22. Just wondering, in general does "cleanest" and "freshest paint" mean BEST MAINTAINED ? Doesn't Fayard maintain his to part 135 ? Would that not ultimately be better maintained ?
  23. I *think* that legally - negligence cannot be wavered. Which in turn leaves the TM liable. Which in turn leaves the gear manufacturer liable for not foolproofing their gear. Bullshit ? Yes. Reality ? unfortunately, in the US - Yes. just some thoughts, no legal background
  24. just wait till someone asks for blue on black with orange piping :)
  25. hey, at least your are honest and realistic :) thanks
