I have packed a Cobalt 150 and a Crossfire2-149 into a J4K Javelin Odyssey. It was fine, especially with sloppy packing

Would your DZ let you use a Baser system to skydive.
likestojump replied to stitch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
not all skydivers like BASE jumpers. not all BASE jumpers like skydivers. The BASEr seems to try to bridge the gap and bring peace and understanding to both parties. Both are being a bit resitant to it. Somehow reminds me of the middle east situation... weird -

and that's the whole point of what I wrote. Here dude got trained to use BASER, did 1 jump from NRGB and he already has knowledge of which training technique are proper. -
Guidelines on pricing for 2nd hand gear
likestojump replied to crashtested's topic in Gear and Rigging
if everything is in good shape, in the US market I think it's a fair price. I would still advise you to sell that PD190 to someone who knows what they are doing and get yourself a ZP canopy. good luck ! -
1.333 Wingloading with 160 jumps....
likestojump replied to markovwgti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Had guy contact me yesterday - 60ish jumps, flying a 189 loaded 1.31 - he wanted to buy a 169 (WL would be 1.46). I have no words... -
it's a 100% scam. it's VERY VERY typical. want me to prove that to you ? Get him on the phone. YOU WILL NOT. Not EVER.

"you people" ??? if you cannot take constructive criticism from someone who has enough information to formulate logical conclusion - don't ask that person for their opinion. PS I was certain I made it clear that I am not trying to offend you, but to speak my mind. PPS I personally think BASER is a great concept - but it does not mean that 30 skydives on a BASER make you ready to BASE jump. All they do is make you comfortable with that particular gear. It does NOT A FUCKING THING to teach you exits, site evaluation, wind evaluation, ethics, etc. As such, it gives people a false sense of security, which in turn leads to the new generation of jumpers. By "new generation" I mean the CURRENT jumpers. Dayblazing their "firsts" that have been jumped under the cover of night for years, blasting youtube with objects otherwise unknown to the outsiders, having the yahoo attitude, and lastly - DISPENSING ADVICE BASED ON 1 BRIDGE DAY JUMP. FUCK THAT, if that means I will be called a dick, so be it. But like I have said before - just because I understand the concept of swoop, and talked to competitive swoopers, that does not make me a good mentor to future swoopers. -
Well...how much is this problem going to cost me?

it's all relative... in 2006 I had a Sigma 15mm 2.8 EX that spent a few weeks in the field after the helmet had to be cutaway due to line/ringsite entanglement. naturally it looked like shit, but took ok pictures in manual focus. someone offered me $255 for it knowing exactly what happened. I suppose you may find someone who can use the 15mm you got and loose less than $250 in the process.. or not :) -
$1000 for a Sabre1-230 is a hefty price. If it's in a good condition and the lines are as described, I would price it more in the 700-800 range. $500 is about the going rate for Sabre1s with 400-600 jumps and original lineset (i.e. needing $300 invested in them for new lines/inspection/shipping) For example, a few months ago I sold a DOM 1991 Sabre-210 with almost no jumps for $775. Being a 91, I had a lot of people be uneasy about it - but someone got an essentially brand new canopy (it had 35 jumps) for half the price of a new Sabre2. If it was made in the late 90s, I am pretty sure I would not have gotten much more - as at Sabre is an older model, and in minds of most people (myself included) when the price starts pushing $1000 you may as well pony up $200 more and get a nice used Sabre2. hope this helps

what is the seller trying to sell it for ? what do you think it's worth ? PS not to sound like an AR dick, but it's sabRE, not Saber :)
-
Keep in mind, all those estimates are VERY subjective. the price is what someone is WILLING to pay you for it, not what you WANT to sell it for. Nylon gets degraded by heat and sunlight. YOUR opinion on age degradation is great, but quite invalid. In other words if you were to present me that argument when trying to buy from me, I will just ignore it. Ok, back to your question - yes, age makes a difference, but purely from a marketing standpoint. The product (even if current) is older, and thus theoretically should be worth less. Will some sellers agree ? Sure, some will. But others (like me) won't think it makes that much difference. I would say the $$$ difference what I would consider a fair market value on 2 identical model canopies that are 10 years apart is negligible. - but that, again, is MY subjective opinion. I hope this makes at least a little sense. If you want to throw me some canopy models and jump #s adn DOMs I can guesstimate what their Fair Market Value is. BSBD

Buddy, your opinion on what's good for the sport and on ones teaching methods matters dick when you have very little clue about the sport. while I appreciate your input, I disagree with what you say on the principle that you have very little clue what you are talking about. don't get offended, just think of how one-sided and subjective you sound with 1 BASE jump and coming from the Ranch. peace. -
sooo - Anybody got the reserve cable length for a R4 series (R450 S class) Reflex ? thanks !

You're just jealous. You probably just spilled your mid-afternoon tea reading what he wrote, so you feel vindictive at the same time. -
it's common thing. Has happened MANY times before. Based on that I choose not to do any business with him. He is not lost, he just has a very poor sense of how business is done. Before you guys flame me, I speak from experience. see : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2962368 and : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3205787

if by mesh you mean 3D spacer foam - I would get that as a personal preference.

Robinson R44 Helicopter for jump operations
likestojump replied to FrancoR's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Has anyone considered how many R22/R44 are there as compared to other manufacturers ? What is the rate of accidents rather than just the # ? This is like the argument that driving is more dangerous than skydiving. -
In all honesty it's very simple procedure. but with anything simple - if you are hisitatnt about it - get a rigger to do it for you. pop the reserve remove the freebag remove the cypres blackbox from the pocket push the cutter(s) and the control unit through the channel back to the control box. and I mean PUSH - do not pull them by the wires. store your rig/reserve in a large garbage bag or closed plastic storage bin. fill out : https://www.cypresusa.com/service_form.asp send it off

New and looking to get into the sport
likestojump replied to hook2001321's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What other dropzones that you have trained at or are familiar with training methods of are you comparing Spaceland to ? OP : Searching for "big boy" "large jumper" "heavy jumper" 280lbs" and similar using the SEARCH will give you links to plenty of older discussions that are nearly identical to your situation. here's on of them : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=569196; -
I tell people to get the fuck out of my house if they ignore my request to take off their street shoes. Or if they decide it's ok to smoke in the garage "because it's too cold outside". Does that make me a little less tolerant than you ? :)

built in failure points are a good thing. Like pointed out above it would be nice for the bridle to break from the top attachment point if you hung up on something. BASE canopy bridle attachment points have built in 550lbs failure point (I know of at least one jumper who survived a locked bridle on a static line jump)

I heard that during the afterhours you see more cock than tits at SkydivePA. I also heard that it's still worth it to check it out. but may just be hearsay....
