Eagle Flight Skydiving was an interesting slice of skydiving. It was eventually run off from Granbury due to the city building hangers on every available landing area. It was bought and sold a few times and eventually ended up in Hillsboro, TX as Skydive I-35 (which is a nice DZ). The DZ I did my first jump at, though, was what I found out later to be a hold over example of skydiving in the early 90s. It was a place where you were expected to not only pay beer dues, but to be there after sunset load to enjoy the paid dues. It was a DZ where Memorial Day weekend had jumpers digging out rat-gear to do intentional water landings in Lake Granbury. People were expected to learn how to spot and to pack for themselves. They had a 182 and for a really kick-ass boogie, they'd bring in a few other 182s for formation loads. It was also where you were expected as an up-jumper to go through the BIC and to help young jumpers learn all they could (and to even *gasp* jump with them)! I would argue that it had a really solid club mentality. When the Aggie Skydiving Club was driving an hour to Waller to jump out of an Otter, I was driving nearly 4 hours to jump out of a 182 in Granbury. It was my first skydiving family. In the end I think they taught me more about being a skydiver than skydiving, but that is also why I think I love the sport so much and continue to jump. Skydiving is more then turning points, tossing drogues and having a camera. Skydiving is people. My original JM's (like Doc Stewart) taught me that. Hi AD I kind of knew the answer before I asked it The DZ you describe is actually a hold over from at least the late 60's thru the mid seventies. You were mature enough to see the advantages of a "shit hole Cessna DZ" vs a turbine DZ. I'm guessing that some of those DZ's like you describe are still around but you have live in the right part of the country to find them and be mature enough to dig thru the BS of the sky snobs, AFF etc. Someone from Down Under actually made the comment about a Cesssna DZ vs twin otters/turbine. Mr Peak the USPA midwest conference director made a diplomatic response to the gentleman. I wasn't as kind as Mr Peak but was mellow Don't sell yourself short dude, oops Tall Sir. Your eleven yr's in the sport was a combination of the right person at the right place.

Hi Mr T Since dudes have two heads I still have two helmets and I'm not even jumping anymore. My frap hat was made by Mr Fugit. Maybe $20-$30 My bunny helmet was made by a US military contractor. Free I kept all my skid lids in a USAF SG helmet bag with all my misc gear. rip cords, pull up cords, 2 size of spare rubbers , 2 alties, closing loops goggles, spare eye glass's. etc. The helmet bag I have has a zippered main compartment and has 2 exterior pockets and at least two interior pockets. FWIW they are available now in SG, OD, black and sandpile camo. Check out the army/navy "surplus stores" maybe $20 max. OTOH $1k or 1k euro's for helmets isn't that bad considering the cost of jumping these days Anyone remember the 5 cent chocalate candy bar now their 50+ cents ea One Jump Wonder

Why are skydiving helmets so ridiculously, unreasonably expensive?!
Krip replied to bertusgeert's topic in The Bonfire
I'm sorry are you placing a pric on looking good? Hi Mr T I wonder if the 300 euros inludes the nice custom made padded Helmet bag made out of cordura with the zipper. The few that I saw matched the jumpers container. When you pay 300 euros you don't want a scatch on your skid lid The look is priceless One Jump Wonder -
Hi M Depending on who the person is. Try tapeing the car air freshner to the bottom of their chair Depending on how much of a PIA they are increase the number of air freshners in various places on the bottom of their desk Boss had a BS weekly staff mtg in his office some of us had to sit on the floor (carpeted). Me and a bud would go on a walk befor the mtg, and step in some goose shit that would stick to the sides of the soles on our shoes. So in the boss's office and we're both sitting on the floor with our legs crossed wiping the goose shit off our shoes into their carpet Bring in lots of M&Ms and donutes (coupon 2 doz for the price of 1) or M&M's 2/3 off after xmas and easter. Some folks can't resist the free food and calories especially the ones that were on a diet. One Jump Wonder

Hi B Try and find a older US army Halo helmet. AKA Bunny helmet Leather with major padding, and all kinds of neat stuff. Oxygen mask snaps, padded ear phones. They came in two colors Black and white. They work one of the times I had a error in judgement back in pc daysHad horizontal ground rush with a barn door, kicked offf it but the canopy was connected to the top of the barn. So it swung me back into the Barn door The helmet had enough padding when i hit the door head first no harm no foul. A little shoe polish on the leather. The last time I wore it was a LP boogie two yr's ago. Some folks asked me what & where Look in the dark dirty corners of a DZ old equipment pile, a military jump club or work your grapevine. I've still got mine but its not for sale at any price. Most people wouldn't want it any way its not. Happy hunting One Jump Wonder -
CLASS!!! CLASS!!!!!! Please read the subject line. Can we try and stay on topic. The exit statergy for iraq. Replace the coalition troops with "contactors", "merc's the private sector, easter rabbit, or whatever you want to call it so the generals and politicans can declare mission accomplished. Where the hell are the iraqi's that we've been partnering wuth, training and arming for the last 10 yr's One Jump Wonder

Jimmy You've started a lot of posts in SC with topics all over the the place.Illegals, sucide rate of american troops, helmet laws to mention a few. Are you trying to be a post whore? A count of who started the posts on the first page of SC shows you've started 6 posts care to explain yourself. Don't you know how to do your own research? Do you post in any other forum on DZ.com besides SC? How come you never responsed to my question "are you a vet" . Or my statement that 18 vets are commiting suicide every day. Do you belive the problems uncovered in the walter reed scandle have been resolved? If you think they's been resolved tell us what makes you think so. If not whats your solution to the problem? Before you start another BS thread why don't you finish what you started. Use you google skills and personnel history to answer the above questions. Don't worry you don't work for me you don't have to answer unless you want to. OTOH My WAG is your a scum sucking bottom feeding troll. That just likes to stir up shit, so you can eat it. Hi Folk According to the Stars and Stripes. As the american troops are leaving iraq. They will be replaced by Mercs, oops "contractors. Google is your friend look it up. The state dept has already a short list of american companies that will supply the Merc's oops contractor's. The generals will be able to meet their timetable for troop drawdown in iraq due to their master plan for winning the war. Anyone want to take a wag who's going to pay the salaries for the merc's. And all the associated costs that come with the treating wounded. The coalition or the iraq's. The US/coalition has been training and arming the Iraqi's for how many yr's ? And they still can't handle their own security. Mission accomplished One Jump Wonder

Old Timers, How many sport static lines did you make?
Krip replied to captain1976's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Hi Cap I resemble that that remark junior. 1968: How many S/l jumps? somewhere between 5-8 maybe. I'm so old that its not worth my effort to find my log book to come up with a specific number. Anyone remember doing combat RW -
Hi Rhino You asked so here's my response. Your idea sucks. Its going after the symptons of the problem the unemployed. Rather than the robber barrons that are responsiable for the problem. Have a nice life One Jump Wonder

Thats why the bad folks have lobbyists so they can influence the law of the land so the bad folks can hide behind the loop holes they snuck in. At a minimum it give them and their lawyers the ability to use plausable deniability. I think it time for a 4th populer lie. 4)Trust me the goverment wouldn't allow us to committe fraud. Anyone want to come up with #5, 6, 7,.......... One Jump Wonder

Damn Amazon Now everyone knows where I got my JSC training BS story from. No torture required I confess it was from that websight. Why pay a unknown amount of $$$ to attend the "real course" in the link you provided when you can read the info on the websight and fill in the blanks. Reminds me about my one and only tandem skydive. Of course I had to pay xtra for the video so I could prove to everyone how brave I was by putting my butt on the line by jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. FWIW The 100 yr old dude could still capture me. We grew older at the same time he just had a head start on me so we're both 40+ yr's older. It's not like he had to whao to capture me. He just hid behind a tree or something next to the trail and popped up as we walked by. SC is what it is, and the internet is what it is. One Jump Wonder

Hi DG Close but no cigar, have you actually gone thru SERE training and seen the people that attended this training.? Back in the day SERE was called Jungle survival school. I attended that school in 1967 or 68 in Panama. I can assure you I'm not a spook, a pilot or rambo. I was just a enlisted swine aircrew member. There were lot's of different aircrew members taking the course. there were also a few CCT guy's. I "passed" the course If I remember correctly we had 4 days of classroom instuction and three days of living off the land in the jungle in panama with minimal supplies, with the objective to evade capture by the panamian jungle indians as we tried to make it back to a specific location. I got caught by a wise old indian and gave him my hat, as proof that he caught me, evasion was the least of my prioities. But I still passed I had a choice to attend what you call SERE training in eastern wa in the middle of the winter with the mock POW camp after we got captured Or go to Panama where there was a jungle, and only had to attempt to evade the indians in a jungle enviroment.. If we got shot down it was going to be flying over a nice warm jungle. IMO our chances of getting shot down in a C-130 were minimal. SC is what it is. so continue argueing about torturing the special operators. Someone already answered the issue about torturing special ops folks in a school with a known duration vs being in a real POW camp like the Hanoi Hilton. for 5-7 yr's. One Jump Wonder

Dude QuoteIn the spirit of cooperation, partnering etc I'll let you in on a little secrete. I was a career federal employee.. Based on my 21 yr's of expeience working for the working as a engineer for two different organizations I can assure you that the type of a federal employee your talking is a urban legend. I started working for the feds around 1975 I couldn't belive what I was seeing and kept on telling myself it couldn't be that bad it was just some people had a bad attitude for "whatever reason" . I was wrong The only folks that hide behind your urban legend are folks like you in various industries including USPA. I could be more specific about the crap I was exposed to working for the feds, but basically my attitude now is Since I retired from the feds I don't have to do anything stupid unless I want to. So one yes, one no, and I'm gone. 3,2,1 c ya. One Jump Wonder

Yes but you have to admit current regulations are a bit lax compared to what they once were. I’m sorry but I do not agree. There is far more regulation than in the past. Some of which I described above in an earlier post. All of those rules about communications came about in the 90’s. In the good old days, traders spoke to their competition about pricing. Give that a thought for a moment… a trader could call his competition and discuss what they were going to offer securities at without the market regulators supervising if they were colluding on price. Much safer for the public now that all communications are monitored. Dude A lot of us heard the tapes of the enron employee calling the power plants and asking them how much trouble it would be to pull some of their generators off line. To give the appearence of a power shortage so they could jack up the prices. Audio tapes are only good after the fact. To try and prove who did what when. Was the person who made the telephone call ever sent to jail? Did they have to give back their bonus money? Was that call made in before or after the regs your talking about? Want to discuss the the independent auditors like arthur anderson thaat worked for enron? Or the store front auditor that was rubber stamping madoff books? Can you explain to us if the there's a possiabilty that the speculators and wall street are responsiable for the run up on gasoline prices? The SEC is a joke. Why would anyone would work for the feds as a watchdog over wall street for chump change that has half a brain. When they can work for wall street aand make more in a year than a SEC employee can make in a 10 yr's or a life time? Who said "No new tax's " Who said "It's unamerican to take away the oil company's tax exemptions" Who said "I never had sex with that women" One Jump Wonder
