  1. Hi Steve, Sparky Since I'm older than both of you sweet young thangs, I hope to die in my sleep. But I promise I'll come back and look you both up or down (probaly up) and let you know what I find out if I can remember. Just leave the light on "I'll be back" Time for my nap, or to get up from my nap. I'm soooo confused. What was the subject of this thread, damn maybe I'm already dead
  2. Because I'm not willing to spend $75/jump for the next two years Did I mention said jump only goes to about 9000 ft? And that the only DZ around is open maybe twice a month? If your G.I. or related do they have jump clubs useing chopper's?. You can buy a lot of rotten cabbage for $75. OTOH the knee thing One Jump Wonder
  3. Hi PJ We had a friend that had a OES, she took the dog on a long car ride to visit her parents. As soon as they walked thru the door. The dog upchucked in the hallway. Includeing a pair of the owners dirty panties Some dogs like to eat certain things, if you got false teeth lock them up at night (the teeth) not the dog. One Jump Wonder
  4. If a student is in need of remediation they would be far better off getting it at a community college. My school stopped offering remedial classes some 16 years ago. If applicants aren't ready for calculus and college level physics we tell them to go to community college and catch up rather than spend $30K+ to take HS level classes with us. Bingo Thats exactly what I did. I had been out of HS for 5-6 yr's & had crap math skills, in addition to spelling. We accumulated mass qyt's of non transferable math credits because they were basically what I needed to get a strong basic foundation. Another advantage of going to the CC was the younger small sized "WOMEN" with Boobies and all that stuff. So what if they were taking liberal arts class's. My broken leg from jumping was a babe magnet in CC. Shah stop whineing use your federal bean is like the Major in Ft hood that he used to get his MD degree. You've already got your ft in the door working for the feds. During my career with the Feds some of the GS-14''s and 15's Weren't the smartest pencil in the drawer they were "well traveled". The condo you can't sell? SIUC IMO you've made some minor misteps up to now. If you want to be professional victim that choice is totally up to you. Have a happy happy happy, run away from your job with the FEDs. Get a job with a fed contractor they have the same bean count as the feds. One Jump Wonder
  5. Good idea. Stayed logged into the Bonfire here and we'll cheer you on and suggest things you can talk about while you interview.
  6. Hi G Have you considered the reason you felt relaxed and good parasailing was due to the effects of the benzodiazepines (valium, xanex, Ambian). Xanex was a "newer drug and it wasn't supposed to have as many problems as Valium. IMO feeling relaxed is not a good thing when your jumping and have a malfunction or acft emergenccy and need to react immediatly to save your butt. Even doing a tandem can put your tandem master at risk. Mixing booze with bensodiazepines to get a Buzz quite frankly is not showing very good judgement . It can kill you even if your not jumping. IMO and I'm not a Dr wait until you can stabilize your condition by doing the exercise thing thinking positive talking with a good dr etc. The sky's not going anywhere, the earth isn't going anywhere, set yourself a goal to get off the meds under a good Dr's care get your act together and then go jumping
  7. It helps to start above the cascade, separate the lines on the tail, then work your way down. If you just start at the cascade, you can still have a twist or two above it. Another method is to untwist them down at the toggle, where the line is fat from a fingertrap joint, because that's where you get a better grip on it. I just roll it between my fingers while looking up the line to watch the barber-pole spiral unwind. It's done all in one place, with no walking from one end to the other. If people are using packers as a commen courtesy. I would also recommend untwisting the brake lines for them. & setting your brakes. Its called respect The Bees wax on the lines was old school when sq's first came out with the rope and ring reefing system. For somw reason the canopies were experiencing friction burns on the top skin of the canopy. Bee's wax was tried to prevent the burns , Silcon spray on suspension lines will reduce the coefficent of friction between the suspension lines and grommets resulting in a faster opening Most jumpers I knew always packed their rig before leaving the DZ, So they would be ready to jump the next day, week, month, or year. As long as the rig was stored in a place like Twardo described. I knew one jumper who stored his rig in a gear bag for 7 yr's in the closet. Got his reserve repacked and the rubber bands were fine. So he assumed the main rubber bands were in the same condition jumped the main as was. It worked for fine for him but YMMV. One Jump Wonder

  10. Nobody has called me young in quite some time... Does this mean that, "I done good?" Yep
  11. No, he's frustrated with his life and can't get laid. Never thought I'd say this but...... Prof Kallend is correct & Pass the cheese One Jump Wonder
  12. Shoulda taped it the first time, and saved the fuel. What can I say...We had a woman pilot! Steve1 Your the second person I ever talked to that jumped out of a 119 you must be really really old. OTOH Montana ANG maybe not remember a yr? Since you got to jump the 141 you couldn't be "that old" Save fuel? It couln't have been more than $ .30/ gal. But that was actually a lot considering our income. "Almost back in the day One Jump Wonder
  13. Hi PC Can't imagine a bunch of rocket ships and flying boats zipping around in the dark trying to do the downwind base final thing without even a chem light. At least our canopies we loaded at 1to 1. or 1 to 1.5. Forgot about the problem with the cool looking smoked goggles to keep the sun out of my eyes. "No problem we'll leave the porch light on". Damn its way over there. Suck it up cupcake

  15. Hi NPG IMO the rapture did happen for the folks in Joplin MO that got hit with the tornado. Send all those supplies to Joplin or keep them for the next time. We all know Bad Shit can happen, anyplace, any time, to anyone. Not just to the, folks, living in trailer courts. Joplin is located in the bible belt, and tornado alley.Maybe the folks in church were praying for the poor souls in Joplin MO. I would if I was a church going man. But I'm not so I just count my dumb luck and move on. We're doomed, we're all doomed I say. Repent now!!! One Jump Wonder
  16. LOL! I got a stick to the face in our first scrimmage, a guy broke his stick on the goalies face three weeks ago and last night the s/o got a skate to the face. We love our cages and we don't care how uncool they make us look. My break wasn't from anything cool or sexy like a good hit or sliding into the boards. I got my feet mixed up underneath me when I fell. I'll be back out there, probably before I really should be. The game is just too much fun! Learning new stuff and meeting new people can be a lot of fun.
  17. Hi Whine whine whine >>Engineering is a cult / frat with a very bad sales pitch for your average guy. Even worse if you are at all social. Thus why some are very offended by any criticism of the field. >> Engr school is for learning. If you want to do social after class join a frat or hang out at the DZ. >>For me...and this is just me and my experience. Engineering school was hazing. Physical and psychological hazing. I loved the subject I love solving mechanical problems but I with a passion hated the instructors. I as an immigration did not appreciate that my professors or their assistants did not have a command of the language. And the work load of 4 hours of after class work per class per day.....why? >> 4 hr's of after class I went to school after 4 yr's of doing my duty for god and country and was highly motivated after 4 yr's as a enlisted swine in the military 66-70. Started off with the basics at CC like algerba during summer school. Had solid fundementals (except spelling) so didn't need 4 hr's of after class when we went to the Big school. >>That aside here is who engineering is a good option Immigrants who would be ok with a lower middle class but stable life.>> A stable life yep we had that for sure>Girls. All jokes aside given current federal requirements and for public perception a girl will do very well once she graduates. On average a female engineer will move faster up the ladder than a male engineer.>> Dude where you been Women, ladies etc have been around since adam and eve. They have the mad skilz, look at the DZ, look at ancient history. Stop whining. The Major that went postal at FT hood wasn't a women he was a good bean and got a free ride for a very long time. I think you got the same bean he had. I'm guessing you've got the same bean except for the part. If you want to get ahead, stop whining, network, and play your bean with the right employer . First Barbie doll I asked out in the State univ wanted to know what kind of a car I drove. >>Female engineer will be given preference to an equally skilled male engineer. >> Substitute female engr with female skydiving student. Same same. >>Thus why I'm not surprised when some one says their girl just graduated from an engineering school with 4 job offers. >> Did you also consider she might have a good brain, good GPA and social skills. ( she might have spent a fair amount of time growing up at DZ) The bean is just iceing on the cake. >>Basic economics. So. If possible stand back....other than the love of solving problems...is it worth it. Yes it's stable yes unemployment is lower than average but given the hazing that engineering school is and the limited compensation packages is it worth it?>> Hazing in Engr school? thats your fault you either had unrealistic expectations or picked the wrong school. I never experienced any hazing that I was aware of. OTOH after I quit jumping after graduating from college with 500 jumps and a engr degree. We quit the sport for 10yr's and moved to a differnt part of the country and showed up at the local DZ.
  18. Hi Bill/Wendy Then there are the real night jumps when there's a full moon One Jump Wonder
  19. Hi Old farts and sweet young things How many times have you manifested for a sunset load that ended up being a night jump? When we finally made it to a real DZ with a paved runway the second time we manifested for a sunset load we knew it was going to be night jumpbefore T.O. DZO says no problem we'll leave the light on at the porch so you can find the LZ We started to locate the roads, powerlines, fence lines and other challenging locations relative to the porch light to stay away from
  20. Hi R Purdue I got my engineering degree the smart way I was a vet paying for school, living and jumping for $175/mo on the G.I.Bill We heard the rumots about the "look at the peeps sitting next to you" never happened to us we went to a CC for 2 yrs took the calculus classes, physics, and other stuff I can't even remember. No classes with hundreds of students maybe 30 max. Then we need to pick "a real school" for our last two yr's a all dude school at Rolla MO (school of mines) Or a bisexual school at University of MO. Graduated with honors in Civil Engr using a slip stick , still jumping every weekend. Got a pay raise the last yr to $225

  22. Hi Old farts WAG maybe 1 out of 1400. I kind of remember OMFG I have to land with the plane Where's the seat belt When my back was turned the DZ rookie cessna pilot talked my girl friend into a few free rides in the empty slot as ballast so he would know what it felt like to land with a passenger on the plane. That happened around 73-74. Didn't find out till about a month ago. From my x girlfriend One Jump Wonder
  23. Hi Tom Your not OLD maybe aged like a fine wine The only song I remenber Was the chant by Johnny Gates for the Muff bro's & sisters (with bumps) on the climb to altitude in the Twin otter at Z-hills. I don't know the history behind the Muff bro chant. But Mr Gates and the other ass holes on the plane was like watching the Rocky Horror Picture show in the right theatre One Jump Wonder
