  1. Andrew This is the general skydiving forum not SC. Your inflamatory statements and cherry picking my post won't work here.
  2. QuoteI may have mised it but didn't see any statements from Howard about the USPA's funding of the museum. Phreezones statement about the lack of a specific line item in USPA budget is interesting due to the broad catorgories in their budget. so its hard to tell without a audit how much USPA money has been/will be spent on the museum. I think we've all seen some fund raisers expenses count for the majority of the funds they raise. I hope Ms Kemple efforts won't be more of the same. Time will tell. R.I.P.
  3. Hi chris I concur that with your opinion that If "USPA " needs to raise money than the GM fees is a likely canidate, and could be based on a per jump basis. A $400/yr GM fee is totaly out of proportion with the income their making from tandems and strudents. The unfairness of the GM fee schedule was discussed "back in the day" on rec skydiving and someone mentioned at the time the GN dues of $400day didn't even equal the cost of a cup of coffee/day IMO the fact that the GM dues has already been paid for 2009 doesn't mean a retroactive rate increase should be out of the question. Especially due to the present economic climate. Since USPA is a DZO organization rather than a skydiver org it's unrealistic to expect that the BOD to vote to increase their own membership dues as long as they can increase the jumpers dues. Bottom line: USPA has almost a total monoply on jumping in the US. If you want to jump you have to be a USPA member regardless of the due structure & fairness. So pay your dues, smile & continue to jump. R.I.P.
  4. Hi R RPG's, and full auto's probably aren't allowed However Wa state does has a open carry law. My understanding of the law is that Unless your a bad guy you can carry your handguns or long guns in public with a permit. A CWP is not required since the weapons aren't concealed. We've seen two guy's carrying in public, One at a Dog Park. He explained the law to us and that he was exercising his right to open carry per state law so that we wouldn't lose our rights to open carry and educate the public and law enforcement. I wonder if texas has a similar law. Hint Hint One Jump Wonder
  5. Hi Hoop Ditto what roger ramjet said.
  6. Easy for you to say Canopy abuse! Canopy abuse!!! The video OTOH A 10!!!!! One Jump Wonder
  7. Anyone see a dog flying in the wind tunnel? One Jump Wonder
  8. Hi Beatnik Any damage to the main canopies To bad about the wrap But the since everything turned out ok. The jump was a perfect combination of old tech jump gear and hi tech video, audio, editing so we could all see the old stuff flying again, twice. Thanks R.I.P.
  9. A old jump buddy from back in the day recently passed away from long term health issues. We flew back to KC for the funeral. His log books were on display during the viewing and funeral. He hadn't jumped in about 25 yr's and "only" had about 800 jumps. The log books were in prime condition just like the man lived his life. The next day at my buddies house we saw his kids (now in their 30's and 40's) reading dads log books, remembering the jumpers who signed off his jumps and laughing at the comments made on ea jump. Those log books are priceless to his children and I'm sure will be passed on in his family for generations to come. YMMV R.I.P.
  10. Anthony You already got the video's of your challenging freefall position and your instructor is Mr Stokes that and some simple communication with Jay should be enough. IMO you don't really need to spend the added time and expense of a tunnel to solve a simple body position problem. Mr STOKES is very approachable, show him your video and discuss your concerns. I think he'll be able to set you straight,
  11. Hi PG I'm wondering if jumpers would go for a doggie daycare service at the DZ. Maybe $10/day includeing shade, dogmates, pooper scooper, fenced area fresh water, swimming pool, video, coach's etc. R.I.P.
  12. Please post lots of pics. This maybe the last time some of old farts get to see the "Classic gear" in use.
  13. Hi MR T & B Since you Men are talking about your weight range and the opening characateristic's on the T-bow, maybe weight could be a factor. The little boys I knew back in the day jumping the T-bows were light weights. I guess you can test the weight theory if you know any little/young people that want to jump a really neat canopy fom "back in the day". Just point the arrow on the canopy back to the dz. R.I.P.
  14. Been there, done that. Once is enough for me also. Hi Beatnik Might want to check the packing instructions or talk to some of the old farts who jumped them about your hard openings. We had 3-4 guys at our DZ in Ks jumping T-bows back in the day and don't remember hearing any complaints about uncomfortable openings. R.I.P. Of course "back in the day" men were men
  15. Hi Piper We saw a news video of a jump into northern Iraq it appeared to me that there was no opposition and maybe another mission accomplished photo op. OTOH the rangers that jumped into panama were jumping into a hot LZ. A Ranger from Ft Lewis (that also jumped at Kapow) that was on the jump in panama had one of his risers shot off (close to the ground). In addition to being award the combat jump wings he was also awarded at least a purple heart. I'm guessing both jumps were probably considered "combat jumps" and all the jumpers got award their combat jump wing. But IMO we're comparing apples and oranges. FWIW I was a enlisted swine air force puke and only had to open the paratroop doors on C-130E's on jump run for the airborne. R.I.P.
  16. JD passed away on 22 June 08 after a long illness. He was one of the origional KA-MO skydivers from "back in the day" and is survived by his wife 4 children and 4 grand kids. JD was always a fskydiver a family man and a marine. Funeral services will be held on 27 June 08, 11:00 AM at Olivet Baptist Church, 4901 Mission Rd, Westwood Ks. JD leave the light on Bro, We're not far behind and we'll meet you on the other side. R.I.P.
  17. DAve What happened to USPA.They have 30,000+ members and a longhistory of partnering with the FAA to the benifit of skydivers.
  18. That looks like a "Bender deuce" we adopted the tradition from him, except used a twin otter/skydiver stamp. We used uncirculated $2's so they were crisp & sequentialy numbered. The Zhills locals loved them & were
  19. The 1970 USPA directory lists "Konitz, 2 mi SW of Edgenton, KS..." with Danny Payne as contact and LTC Joe Thomas as ASO. Thomas is also listed as ASO for the Ft. Leavenworth SPC and the Tri-City Airport, Parsons, KS, (KSC Skydivers).Quote Hi HW I'm thinking "Konitz" was the name of the cattle farmer that owned the property and let the Jump club use his property for jumping, airplane tiedown, elevated fuel tank. Ft levenworth Ks was the home of Army war college so the army folks in the area were usually only assigned to the area for 1 yr. The ASO whn we got there was a navy enlisted swine vet & rigger. Edgerton/KAMO DZ Facilities? Bldgs: Nope Shade: One tree Classroom: Club members house during the week Gear storage: car trunk Manifest: Girlfriend/wife & Pencil, Paper Water: BOW Phone: Go to town Electricity: High voltage Privy: Go to town Pea gravel:Danny Page started the club and was old school Acc & Style sooo the DZ had a nice pea gravel pit. Runway
  20. KAMO skyding club was jumping outside of Edgerton KS. The DZ was in operation at least from the late 60's to mid 70's. In addition to the above quote the facilities at the DZ included a plane tie down, one tree and a elevated fuel tank. The person who started the club and acft owner was Danny Payne. The other DZ at that time in the area was located in Desoto Ks area (close to lawrence and the SAAP) It had about the same facilities as KAMO's DZ. It was the home DZ of Jim Captain and Matt Farmer who later hooked up with Jerry Bird and in Ariz. FWIW skydiving in Ks doesn't have to be a seasonal sport as long as you dress for success. Indoor packing . R.I.P.
  21. The Puke series color patterns were outstanding and unforgettable to say the least. "Back in the day" a friends wife got a him a special surpise B-day present. The timeing just worked out that the thoughtful wife with the best intentions bought the love of her life the most outstanding PC ever made. His had more black than the one in the pic. I only remember our buddy jumping it a couple of times. Not sure if he moved away soon after he got it or just didn't want to put many jumps on it since it was a gift from the wife Unforgetable B-day gift even 37 yrs later. Its the thought that counts R.I.P.
  22. What everyone said. If you want to be a golden knight change the avatar they want you to represent the army and help recruite. Not sure about current requirements for minimum jump numbers but you also might want to check out the minimum total FF time required. some places 3500' isn't as $$$ as 13.5'. The knight's will teach you to jump but attitude is another issue. A guy from our DZ was a good jumper, but flunked out of GK try outs twice because he had a atttiude.
  23. Does this mean stop logging onto DZ.com under this user name? User names are over rated it's all in the sig line so all user names and even PM's Who needs a unique user name when we use R.I.P. for a sign off Damn SOB is back using another user name who he think he's fooling Hopefully next year you won't see R.I.P. on the sig line.Im going into rehab and can break my addication without falling off the wagon. I know I can, I know I can, This time I'm going to collect E-mail address's befor the end of 07 don't worry R.I.P.... is in that one to. R.I.P. One Jump Wonder
  24. Hi P Granny My wife was a carpenter for about 20 yr's before she got a bad owee. She worked with guy's that couldn't read a ruler past ft and inch's. After inch's they resorted to so many little lines and so many really little lines and and really itty bitty lines. 1/2", 1/4" 1/8". You know why females make such bad carpenters? Because they've been told all their lives by their boyfriends this is 12 inch's. Dumbing down of our country. Next time you go to a drive thru window throw in some xtra change so you don't get anything less than a quarter. My wife was in prison for a yr as a instructor. Also caught the group W bench, and we've seen lots of eucated people in the box stores that have no concept of. How much paint they need for a room (SQft/gal of paint is listed on can)/ floor covering, roofing sq's. Base board for a rm. Carpert for a room? MEASURe THE ROOM and muliply.... forgot they can't read a ruler. if they could how would they get from ft & inch's to sq ft to sq yards. What's a board ft? FWIW I like velcro on my shoes One Jump Wonder
  25. Hi Jerry So that your secrete a daughter (who probably subs it out to her daughter) I was wondering how all these older gentlemen knew how to do this techno wizzo computer stuff. I Gotta go find a rent a kid center. Or a sweet young thing to hook up with. On second thought I'll stick with the rent a kid center idea.
