  1. Dave, I don't mean this post in any way to be sarcastic so please take it as such, I want to learn more about your opinion. Are you saying you don't feel the USPA properly trains and certifies AFF instructors If that is what you are saying, why do you feel that way. I am not a AFF instructor, I don't really have the desire to be at this point. However, I think MOST of the instructors I have come to know are able to do the job. Are you refering to all instructors in general ie AFF, Tandem or are you just refering to the fact that there is not a certification for "canopy flight" instructors. Can you further discuss your position?
  2. I dont know how to spell it but I jumped for a skorsky helo in Japan and a Sky truck in Lebelle

  5. Git er done. Thanks for doing your time in the sand box. You are appreicated. welcome home now jump your @ss off
  6. Tammie (you can PM on here as jumpingbea01) is also a great instructor. Her and Art get are at Wiliston but the get to Deland alot.
  7. Steve are you shooting with the stock flash? I assume you are. If you are, and you don't have access to a off camera flash, my suggestion is this. use manual focus, I think it will work better in those low light conditions. Secondly, try using a shutter priority of 200 on the TV setting. I think by using an auto setting the camera may be choosing a shutter priority that is too slow for what you are shooting. additionally, I "think" the "strobe" flash does not activate in a manual setting allowing the camera to shoot more shots.. try that and let me know what you think.
  8. I took the tandem rating course last week, I finished it. Im proud of myself. I did a couple of real tandems this weekend, I was nervous as hell but they both went great! Just thought I'd share that. Thanks Aggie Dave and Art for answering my questions before the course started
  9. Thanks Art, I start the TI course in the morning. Ill let you know how it goes
  10. I dont think any objects to you posting this incident. It is a good lesson learned
  11. Im about to start the TI course, but IM having some problems finding the answer to 3 questions on the RWS Test For The SIGMA Tandem Endorsement I was hoping someone here wouldn't mind helping me out. 1. what differences in the emergency procedures are there between the Vector II and Vectore III tandem rigs? I believe the answer is none. 2. What would happen if the kill line were not attached to the #5 link at the top of the main deployment bag, or if the kill line would break during deployment? 3. What are the negative consequences of such an occurrence. I have looked through the book for these answers, and I either can't find them, or I don't understand what I'm reading. Any help would be appreicated
  12. well, before the rumors get to far, Ill chime in. The skydiver in question, is a fairly new skydiver. He was on a coahed jump, and using student gear equiped with a FXC. Im not going to comment on the skydive, because I dont know anything about it or the subsequent break off. The skydiver was watched, from the ground as he deployed, it was noted that he was "way low" as the skydiver deployed his main, the FXC functioned. The aforemented events led to a 2 out malfunction, As the skydiver decended the configuration transitioned to a downplane. The skydiver failed to react to the down plane in any manner and continued to decend. at approx. 30 ft the skydivers canopy entangaled with the feeder power lines to the building that the skydiver was about to impact. The power lines ceased the forward movement as well as the decent and suspended the skydiver approx. 5 feet off the ground. He then pulled the cut away handle and walked away from the incident without injury.
  13. the circular thing is a allen head screw, its used to hold the inner portion of the helmet in place, Im not sure what the yellow sticker is
  14. Dave, I dont disagree with what you are saying, but let me ask you this, would you rather, help the new camera flyer out and help him learn what he needs to know to keep himself safe --or--- would you rather he went up in the air without proper instruction and hurt someone. The point I was trying to make is regardless of weather or not someone tells some people that they shouldn't be doing something if they are resolved to so it, they are going to. Im not saying its right Im just saying it happens.
  15. When it comes down to it, if someone is truly set on flying camera, they are going to do it regardless of what the recommendations of others are. I support the notion that 200 jumps is a good number to start flying camera but I also realize people aren't always going to follow that line of though. Hell there are several people in this forum that started flying camera before 200 jumps and then were allowed to fly video on RWS tandems before they had 500 jumps. I think it comes down to this, as students of this sport, we all need to be aware of whats going on around us, I also think that if someone comes to anyone of us and with there helmet in there hand and says hey Im flying camera now and I had a few questions I wanted to see if you could answer, our first response should not be put the helmet away you dont have enough jumps. Thats person has already chosen to start flying that camera, you admonishing their decision is not going to change it, its just going to make them refrain from asking questions; which could get them or someone else hurt. I had right at 150 jumps when I put my first helmet together. I went to Edson Pacheco and said I want to learn how to use this. His reply okay, first, let me say this because I feel I have to, I think you need more jumps before you are ready to start flying camera. He then said, but since you have chosen to start, I am going to teach you how to be safe. I've learned more from him, and rickster than probably anyone else in skydiving, because they were willing to teach. I think its a good attitude to have.
  16. here, taking a break from studying for my Tandem Instructor course, Gawd this stuff is dry reading
  17. Yes, Lake Wales has a pond. Its very nice.
  18. I had a Malfunction at the Dublin Boogie, the canopy opened so hard it broke lines, I was using a packer and I am pretty sure the hard opening was the result of poor packing. However, I did not expect the packing concession to pay for the repack. Although she did pay for it, and it was appreicated.
  19. its usually hot, and fairly physically demanding. Be patient, take your time and don't get frustrated with yourself or the situations. Most of all, have fun it was a good class.

Brian, Give relative workshop a call there # is 386 736 7589, they will be open Monday, you can ask for Mark, Egons. Either one of them would be happy to help you with the details of what you need. I do know this, a V-5 makes it a vector 2 which is a bit of an older rig. NOT that there is ANYTHING wrong with that. As with any piece of equipment, have a rigger inspect it before you buy it. The other thing I can tell you with some amout of certainty, is I THINK the main left web is going to be a bit too long for you. Im 6'2 and have an 17.5 in main lift web. Now if it fits the canopies you want to put in it, and you still want to buy that container, a rigger can shorten the main lift web. What the cost is for that, I dont know. In summary, my suggestion is to call RWS and see if the container will fit the main and reserve. My second suggestion is to have a rigger inspect the container and ensure it fits you properly if adjustments need to be made, you may want to consider the cost before purchasing the container. Also fill in your profile, it helps.
