I know this is a senseless post that doesn't really effect anyone else but thats okay. It's been a month now since I finished my tandem ratings and I just have to say, I love it!!! I know the joy may wear off in time but right now I am having a blast. I've gotten to meet some great people and introduce them to skydiving, I've had a couple that scared the shit out of me, but I got through it and my confidence went up a notch. there is no cooler feeling then watching the excitment in a tandem student. Very cool stuff!

I don't normally post here, but I so feel inclined on this topic. I don't feel its right for anyone to burn an American flag, not here in the US, not overseas. I feel its disrespectful to our country but even moreso its disrespectful to the men and women who have carried that flag into battle and died while fighting for the country it represents. However, one of the things I love about our country, is our God given and constiutionally protected right to free speech. That being said, regardless of weather I like it or not, the people who burn flags, have or should have as much right to express their free speach as someone who stands on a picket line protesting a government decision. If you believe in what our country stands' for i.e. the bill of rights and the constitution, regardless of weather you like the fact that some ass hat is burning the flag of our country you have to respect there right to do so. thats all I have to say about that. {paraphrase} The object of war is not to die for your country, but to make some other poor bastard die for his. {paraphrase}

How to make a small fortune in parachuting...
freefalle replied to Guru312's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
A DZO of a large DZ told me once, you want to make money in skydiving, take a million dollars and get ready to piss it away, and when your done pissing that away, go borrow a million dollars from someone else and piss it away, then youll be a DZO of a little dropzone. -
I just got a fire fly camera suit, I love it. Its well constructed and looks great.

Erin, First of all, your fear to get back in the air is normal, work through it. It will decrease as time goes on. On your first skydive back, jump with whoever YOU feel comfortable with as far as instructors to get you current again, weather its billy or jean or DJ, whoever, its your choice. When it comes time for you to jump again, you will know. You are smart, use your head you will know when them time is right. As for your family, its hard for most people here who know little or nothing about the dynamics of your family to answer that question. With the little bit you and I have talked about, my suggestion is when you are ready, make your skydive, I'll shoot a video for you, and do some stills if you would like, take that home and let them see it, let them see you happy and let them see you land safe. Your family, at least your mom is going to toss a guppie either way. Its your life, go big and live it. Your friends welcome you back. Be careful, use your head and Git 'er dunn. And for the love of God stay the hell out of the powerlines you knucklehead!

Most DZ will take the tandems to full alt. (whatever that is for their DZ) I've been at cessnea DZs where they put them out at 10.5 and at Turbin DZs where we have taken them as high as 18 grand. I agree, putting a tandem out at 6.5 kinda sucks especially if they are paying the full going rate for tandems. I'm at Skydive Greensburg in Indiana, we put tandems out at between 10.5 and 12.5 depending on the day.

Jason, I would venture it safe to say nobody on here truly knows your skill level. As far as canopies (main and reserve,) ask your instructor what is best for you, you MAY even want to stay on rental gear for a bit until you, with the assistance of your instructor, downsize to the canopy size which best suits you. Was the triath 170 student gear? Who suggested you jump that, I would think that your exit weight would be close to 190-195 lbs, Just curious. I'm not trying to discourage you, or your desire to purchase gear, the opposite is true. Welcome to the sport, make good choices and stay safe. Use the advise of your AFF instructors, it will serve you well.

Both of mine have had pockets inside them for a dyter, I did however, replace the velcro with a snap, just my personal preference.

Any of the canon rebel line will do, There is an older rebel out there that doesn't have a remot input, you don't want that one. Other than that I think you'll be happy with them.

kick ass, It's got to be a great feeling to jump with your family. Good for you

Your'e crazy, matt, we were doing them on a regular basis before I left. Contact Bob at www.bobsballons.com he will take you, you'll need a committed group of 8 or more. I think he charges 80.0 per person. He'll take care of you, Bob is good people he is also a skydiver, usually frequents Titusville.

Video: Poor seperation after break off.
freefalle replied to SuperKat's topic in Safety and Training
I don't mean to sound like an ass, but I might. After reading this post twice, it seems to me that you were already aware that this skydiver has poor tracking habits. Do you think you could have dealt with this situation differently? From the appearance of your video, you were shooting on level or inside video. Knowing that this skydiver doesn't track very well, would it have served you better to plan the dive so that all THREE of you tracked in seperate directions. Additionally, During the breakoff could you see him tracking away while videoing the other skydiver? If not, do you not think it would have been in the best intrest of safety to watch the skydiver you had concerns about in order to ensure that you had proper seperation? My thought is had you been watching him, and noticed that his tracking was not allowing for proper seperation, you could have turned and tracked to allow for proper seperation. YES, plan the dive and dive the plan but think about safety. If especially at breakoff. it is customary for the camera flyer to pull in place, but GENERALLY on the skydives when the camera flyer pulls in place, he is above the formation and deploys at breakoff not at the same altitude as the formation. Just my thoughts for what they are worth -
I have a Triath 220, I like it, Im happy with it. However, I have jumped a Spectre, I liked it too. Both canopies are pretty forgiving, both are known for soft openings for the most part. I have heard people complain that the triath. will, from time to time give a bad opening. I have had a few hard openings on mine. Weather it was the canopy, body position or shitty packing I don't know. My recommendation to you is to but some jumps on both canopies and see which one you like the best, then decide. Have fun and be safe.

Question on using Maunal settings for stills
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Photography and Video
Im looking for the opinions of others. When shooting stills weather it be 35mm or Digital, is there any advantage to using the manual setting and chosing both the shutter speed and Aperture setting? If so what are the advantages, as opposed to using the shutter speed priority and letting the camera choose the aperture? -
