Some of the expensive ones have ferrite EMI supressors (cylinders on the cable near the ends). I have many flavours of cables some with and some without supressors, some with fancy ends, some are quite basic and flimsy looking by comparison, and I have never had any issues with any of them. I guess one might get a bit of interference if say the firewire cable was laid next to a power cable (multiple monitors/tvs/VCRs kinda thing?), maybe causing induction interference and a bucket of Henrys (technical terms for expert use only ) to jump around, but I've never seen it in any of my setups. I've never had an end connection or cable fail either, and I've been using some of these cables for 6 - 7 years. Cheap cables are good, buy 2 if you have any worries, route them away from power supplies, and don't edit during lightning storms. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Squeak, the cam to cam will be 4 pin to 4 pin. I dunno what card you've ordered, can you give us a pic, or a description? I've seen both flavours on firewire cards, my PCMCIA adaptor has both on the same card/dongle thingie. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Interesting chat, sorry for coming in late. I don't see how wearing an AAD, helmet, audible (or two) can detract from a skydive so I wear them. I'm lucky in that I can afford them. I would say that I am equally as dependent on things like audibles, as I am on my own vision, or traditional altitude management devices. In the UK we get to jump through clouds, so I would guess we have a better case for wearing audibles. Just to throw some more into the debate.... One could draw parallels in that say, driving a volvo, with airbags, and seatbelts etc makes you a safer driver. Not really, it just means you are more likely to survive a brain fart or someone elses..... And I can't really see you trading in your Harley for a Volvo. It has been said that Cypres took away natural selection from skydiving, but HP canopies put it back..... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "and sometimes especially when they’ve done nothing wrong during the skydive." "Skydivers never cease to amaze me." The copy I have is on one of those 'best of' type CDs, and its been a wee while since I heard it in its entirety. So I'm not 100% sure where it sits in the opera, and I'd rather not shit you, but I did find this translation from it. I thought it might appeal to you.... Fly, thought, on wings of gold, go settle upon the slopes and the hills where the sweet airs of our native soil smell soft and mild! Greet the banks of the river Jordan and Zion's tumbled towers. Oh, my country, so lovely and lost! Oh remembrance so dear yet unhappy! Actual tune to download here... http://www.r-ds.com/opera/verdiana/lyrics.htm -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "In my opinion, the best music is the party scene in Act 2 scene 2." Truly a man of taste.

"I believe written by Verdi, who wrote some other good music." LMAO Bill, its like saying "The Beatles, ah yes they were a popular beat combo a while back".

"Not really, I think we are waiting for British experts...." British tuppence worth, guns....I don't give a rats ass about them, I don't like them, but I have used them in the past for vermin control (red deer mostly). To me they are just like any other powered tool, deadly in the wrong hands, beneficial if correctly used. I don't see the same emotion over say chainsaws..... As you were guys, have fun. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "general anaesthetic and into theatre for joint reconstruction surgery and internal fixation to my ankle. 2 nights in hospital, physiotherapy, 3 further ops to remove the screws and stuff from my ankle in stages... "I'm not sure where he is in the U.K.but you can try Andrew hilton" He's in Scotland, a fair bit away from London. "bottom of container vs legstrap? you can see it on your leg vs reaching back blind.....opinions please.... " Bad Juju for freeflying, premature deployments are no fun, and increased velcro to maintain/replace. Reaching round blind is a wee bit of a falacy, how many people (100 jumps +) still look at their ROL at pull time? I'd wager very few. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Is there a dz.commer you would most like to meet in person?

Jeanne, Erno's heading over to Texel (Holland) at the end of next month (I think). Am going to try and catch with him for a weekend or so. Texas might appear[url] to be relatively flat on the top, but I'm sure it goes down a fair bit. So we know roughly how wide and long Texas is, does anyone know how deep it goes? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. what do i need to do to learn to spot?
nacmacfeegle replied to Newbie's topic in Safety and Training
No worries Dave. JM is responsible for the correct exit order. Kallend's stuff and local rules help here JM will be named on any incident paperwork. CCI will normally assume this, but what if he is the one who is injured/landing off etc. JM is responsible for ensuring everyone has a flight line check and suitable sigs are in place. Manifest normally looks after this, or again local rules prevail. JM is responsible for spotting. JM is responsible for communicating with the pilot if there is an aircraft problem. You need to be ready to evacuate the aircraft in an orderly fashion without causing CoG issues, consider switching off certain AADs if peeps are riding the thing down. Even down to things like making sure everyone's helmet is secured on take off, people load the aircaft in the correct order, people sit in the right place, newbies don't approach the plane from the front, lots of safety stuff like that. Ground to air signals, see the BPA ops manual, the shape of the cross changes for abort, etc. (I just had a search for this and couldn't find it, maybe I've seen it somewhere else) BPA manual here http://www.bpa.org.uk/opman.htm Chat things over with your CCI next time you are weathered out, that way you will know what the local situation is, another experienced JM is always an asset to any DZ. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. But the US cut its ties with the UK sooner than most African colonies, maybe the cultural memory is fresher in commonwealth and other ex-empire countries. Maybe the US has a wider cultural intake, Asia, native Africans, etc, this may have diluted certain language aspects and nuances we take as read. As I said to Tonto, I don't really know. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "why do I know it living in Africa?" I don't really know the answer to that one Tonto. Some sort of cutural heritage thing maybe, or even a closer link with your European ancestry? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Och, be fair to the colonial cousins, the Black Death was at its worst when 25 million people died in just under five years between 1347 and 1352, but still feared till about 1600. CC didn't get across the pond till what, 1492? Well past the worst phase. I think the plague only got as far as Greenland, not quite 'over there'.

Will you land off with your jump buddies
nacmacfeegle replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
"Your safety comes before all else; another injury makes things worse not better." Absolutely. But you can normally land close enough to avoid placing yourself at risk (only you can decide if this is possible). The last time I followed (a dotcommer by the way, how are things Conway?) a cutaway, I made sure I had a fix on his gear then landed a short way away, in the same field as the jumper. I was disappointed to see nobody else from the load offering assistance in this particular case. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I'm assuming we are talking abut full res video here, does the Pooter already have firewire on board Squeakster? If not you will need a firewire (also known as IEEE 1394) card, check out the ADS Pyro range. The basic kits come with lite versions of ULead's Media Studio. That should be enough to get you started. I use a Pyro PCMCIA card with no hassles at all.

The first time I gathered with Allen was at a Gravity Rats spree in San Marcos, I had quite a good time. The last time I gathered with Allen, was a fun filled weekend dragging rafts out the back of Casas over Rosharron. I was in the company of a Mr Chuck Akers, who might have been the dad of that rascal in your Avatar......
