  1. "It it not knowable how long the conflict would last. It could last six days, six weeks, I doubt six months" - Rumsfeld " [tongue in cheek] See, he didn't actually mean what you read or heard, you must have misunderstood him. [\tongue in cheek] -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 2. "Apparently, that US law doesn't apply in Italy." Go figure. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  3. Befriend a camera flier. I really can't stress how useful this is. Visit the camera forum, there are some really helpful and knowledgable people inhabiting that part of the forum. If you explain you are aware of your jump number limitations, and are just thinking about stuff for the future, we will probably be nice to you. Your situation has been discussed there before, so can probably search on topics of interest to your situation. Listen to advice. Decide whether you are going to take this up seriously, or just as a flight recorder. Decide whether you want to top mount it, or side mount it. Decide if things like a Cameye are important to you. Get a Sony, they are nearly all suitable for what you have inmind. Build up your editing skills, while the jump numbers catch up. Have fun and be safe.
  4. "I can drive the length of my country in that time!" You'd be hard pushed, but yeah, Texas is a little larger. If you start at John O'Groats, you'd only get to maybe the Lake district in 6 hours. If you start at the north end of Shetland, you might get to Perth (northern end of our motorway netwrk), but thats really pushing it, and you'd have to schedule ferries and stuff. The AA reckons it would take 16-17 hours to drive between Thurso and Lands End.
  5. "Hold 'em taught and measure 'em that way so there's no confusion." That is indeed what I meant.
  6. I've even seen old fashioned editing boards that can do this either as a slide (no distortion), a squeeze (picture distorts), or as a picture in picture...(terminology may vary). Its dead easy in Premiere or most other equivalents, you can download a trial version of Premiere from Adobe. I've put 11 simultaneous video streams on a single screen using Premiere 4.2, but it took ages to render. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Chips my ass, these are crisps, tell him Rem, they are crisps. Chips are something entirely different Slapster. BTW they ARE yummy, we even get them in our wee village. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 8. "can the dog give informed consent?" Bark once for yes, twice for no. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  9. Just saw the thread and tried 'Nacmacfeegle Sangiro' 4 pages of hits, all pointing here. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  10. Misunderstood...misunderstood? I'll put it in the same category as "We were misled". "Mr Rumsfeld was asked by a New York audience about connections between Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. "To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two," he said."..... Whats to misunderstand about that? Maybe he's... " just a soul, who's intentions are good" ..... See, you and I know the tune, and the lyrics actually fit the situation quite well. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  11. How's about this Jim... Next time you have the 3 rings dismantled (every couple of months or more right?), slap a tape measure on the cables (assuming they are currently the correct length), and write the correct lengths down in your log book somewhere....That way there's no guesswork involved in any replacement scenario. Be sure to measure them with the cables pulled tight.
  12. Hmm, I see your "Democrats and WMDs", and raise you a "Republicans and links between Iraq and Al Quaeda...." "To my knowledge, I have not seen any strong, hard evidence that links the two," Rummy. I'd imagine Bush and Cheney will be less than chuffed with this statement. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 13. "judging everyone in a religion based on the actions of a subset of it is asinine." Definitely agree, but I might be tempted to promote "asinine" to "dangerous". -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 14. "Speakers corner's name for this forum, explains it all. " It should really come with a warning...... May contain nuts. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  15. "Thread definitely has taken on a new life." That happens from time to time...... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  16. I thought the original article was about abandoning old allies to their fate? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

    Wav or MP3

Damn Dave, I need to upgrade my desktop machine, it takes me a while. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson

    Wav or MP3

MP3 is more likely to play on things like DVD/CD players, car stereos etc. It would suck to have to re-rip everything if you choose wav. Keep the bit rate high and you'll be fine.
  19. "HD also sells plastic press-fit caps. Hammer the hex head into the cap and you have a good thumb-screw." Or get a drinks bottle top (one with a wide neck works great) drill a wee hole in it, chuck in the bolt, and fill with epoxy, make a fistful at the same time. I've heard about the press fit caps but have never seen them, sounds like they would do the job as well.
  20. "around the back of the computer for the other end of the firewire cable... sitting there on the floor" Yep, that'll stop the thing working.... -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Thomas Jefferson
  21. Luck is for losers Dave, you'll be fine, and when its all done, you can get down to the serious business of making Wee Daves. Toasting your successful op, and return to normality (whatever that is). FWIW I've been under local several times, just sit and chat with the crew, ask what that funny machine in the corner does, etc, it'll be over before you know it.
  22. "10 comes right after 7." Thats what happened over here.
  23. I've bought stuff from these guys before, its been a couple of years so can't honestly say what they are like nowadays. http://www.hiwayhifi.com/site/ -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 24. Yeah, I can import NTSC etc just fine, its converting it to PAL without large loss in quality thats the challenge. Maybe its the After Effects, I've tried several times with plain old (4.2 and 6.0) Premiere and the results were just horrible, never tried deinterlacing though. Cheers Jarno. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. 25. "I would like to believe that this report is false, but snopes doesn't have anything on it at this time" Which, the general thrust, eg those left behind are suffering? Yep, I'm afraid so, check out what Amnesty has to say about it here... http://www.amnesty.org/results/is/eng You can also search for "Degar" which is another name for the Montagnards. Whether Kerry was right to impede the bill is for smarter folks than me to work out. Don't get me wrong, I'm not about to embark on a bash-fest, just illuminating the plight of these people. Any pressure you guys can bring (Aid Trade?) from whatever political source would, I'm sure, be most welcome. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
