"Well, some of them are tested to the ASTM F-1492 standard. Not that that standard does us a fuckall of good in skydiving, but its nice to know that the helmet will hold its own when confronted with an impact. " Up late Dave? It all depends on the impact energy, and how its applied (anvil shape, energy pulse duration etc). That standard is for helmets designed for skateboarding and trick roller skating. Different impact characteristics to our specific set of requirements, your points well made, are taken though. Developing a specific set of tests for our sport would be a great college project if anyone has the time and inclination.....

They are Gaths, airflow isn't an issue, I have one that used to have a visor. You don't end up hanging by your head. Everybody I've met, that has had a Gath with a visor, has said they blow off in a stand up. You know what, I lost my visor over Spaceland, in a stand up. I've even got its loss on video somewhere, as I was experimenting with a video wrist mount that day. They are nice lightweoght helmets, but they are not purpose designed for skydiving. If you are serious about helmets, support a company that does specifically build stuff for our sport, or wear a protec. Personally I like them as they are cheap, comfortable, and serve to control my hair, store dytters on, and they can be cheaply adapted to act as camera brackets. Protection value is marginal, however there is not a helmet manufacturer out there that actually tests their helmets to any recognised or applicable standard. "The picture in the ad made it look like a pretty cool idea, but maybe that's all it is." That is all they are. eidt...Babylon are a European Freefly team based out of Empuriabrava. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "delectation n 1: a feeling of extreme pleasure or satisfaction; "his delight to see her was obvious to all" [syn: delight] 2: act of receiving pleasure from something [syn: enjoyment]" I didn't mean your delectation in particular, more the public at large. I'm not for the death penalty (no surprises there?), but in this instance I wouldn't squeal too loudly over it. I reckon you guys need this guy dead to aid the healing from 9/11. Broadcasting his execution would be a bad PR move, IMO. You've changed. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "And I definitely draw a strong distinction between them and "us," because when we do kill, we don't do it out of spite, malice, or a wish to terrorize. We kill when we must, not when it suits our goals." Ah, there's the rub, and an entirely different thread methinks. Here's a litmus test for you PJ, OBL will be caught sooner or later, I hope and indeed believe thats inevitable. Would you be upset/disappointed if he were tried and sentenced in a country that does not support the death penalty? Or if he were to be tried in the US, would you be disappointed if his execution was not televised or recorded for your delectation? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I don't know what currently holds the record -- help please if you do." Somebody on telly said the Chinese Grand Prix may have that, but I can't find any sort of substantiation for the statement. I'd say the soccer world cup final would be a good contender, assuming we're talking about simultaneous international live broadcasts, and not the final epsiode of Friends. As for the other question, nope. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "or any other opinion on an older premiere version, like 6.0?" 4.2 was pretty solid but lacked OHCI (standard firewire cards are nearly all OHCI compatible) support, so was really only any good with cards that came with specific codecs and drivers for those particular cards. 6.0 and onwards is stable and will work with just about any firewire card, later versions resolved various minor glitches, and added some nice features. Premiere 5 and all it variants had more bugs than a bunkhouse mattress, do not, under any circumstances, touch it. Long story short, you'll be okay with any version of 6, or later. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "So let me get this straight. Conservatives are claiming that we went to war in Iraq because of 20 year old mass graves, not non-existent WMD? You're right, it is confusing." Now where is that picture, taken about 20 years ago, ah yes here it is, this was taken after we knew Saddam was a really bad guy.... Report: Al-Qaida prisoners have ‘disappeared’

Moi? I don't think they have 'disappeared' as the in various South American states. As Wendy points out this would be bad, very bad, for US leaders, present and future. It will also act as another rallying flag for the malcontents the coalition are trying to supress in Iraq and around the world. Ultimately, such rumours, or even facts if they have indeed 'disappeared' will result in more American citizens being hurt, and really, at the end of the day, nobody wants that. So Ivan and Rhino, its not a good thing. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "I don't think anyone uses knots to mean distance anymore, but it is a correct usage." Well I'll stand corrected, I've only ever experienced knots as speed, which is why I asked. Cheers Dave.

No they are wired but they have a very wide stereo sweet spot, are very heavy (dawgs and kids), and the dome thing keeps sudden rain off the electronic bits, so are perfect for taking outside. "The IAEA said in its letter that U.S. and Iraqi officials have not reported dismantling any sites relevant to Iraq's nuclear program. Anti-proliferation agreements say that the United States, which administered Iraq until June 2004, and the Iraqi interim government, which took over from the United States in June, must inform the IAEA of any import or export of such materials and equipment." So the USA may be in breach of non-proliferation treaties by their inability to maintain a secure grasp of dangerous materials in Iraq (yep the coalition is responsible for the security of the country they occupied, Geneva conventions folks). All the time I thought the coalition invaded becuase they feared that dangerous materials would be passed to terrorists. How ironic. >edit< I guess we're okay as long as its not any of those nukular thingies that worry some folks so much. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. My wee convertor says 1 nautical mile is 6076.131ft near as dammit to your 6080. In metric I believe its 1852m. fromhttp://www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/jo/units/sea.htm "Nautical miles measure distance. 1 nautical mile is the angular distance of 1 minute of arc on the earth's surface. As these differ slightly (6108' at pole c.f. 6046' at equator) 6080 was adopted (this being it's approximate value in the English Channel). The International nautical mile is 1852 metres, so is very slightly different from the UK nautical mile. 1 UK nautical mile = 1.00064 international nautical miles Now the International nautical mile is used throughout the UK, except in the Statutory Instrument 1995 No. 1804 which defines it as 1853 metres! If you want an irrelevant fact, one minute of arc on Mars is close to a kilometre (.987 km to be more accurate). Perhaps the French who defined the kilometre were really Martians! " Hence the phrase "cheese eating surrender aliens" I hope that clears everything up. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "You start with miles/hour and end with knots/hour." Are knots different in the States? Over here we have nautical miles, as a measure of distance, Knots are a measure of speed. Therefore if you are looking at knots/hour, that would actually be a measure of acceleration. Anyways there are loads of wee conversion programmes out there to download, http://www.haywardindustrial.com/html/converter/converter.asp for example, stick one on yer desktop. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Do you fear spiders more than terrorists?" Me? Nope spiders are relatively easy to catch. The little (and some quite big ) beady eyed beasties are all making ther way indoors round where I live, I regularly chuck 3 or 4 of them back into the garden each evening. I have a perspex spider catcher thing, visualise a funnel on a stick with a sliding trap door. The wee fella loves getting up close to them when they are trapped like this. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
