Thanks Rem, I seem to remember seeing a weird looking AC used for transporting the Airbus wings from somewhere near Bristol over to France for airframe assembly, thassall. cheers D Cya D

You can't really compare pricing of a climbing harness, to a parachute harness, there are ecomomies of scale, plus most climbing harnesses are not custom made to your exact dimensions, and colour choice... On the swami belt thing I believe Deanna Kent used to jump something similar to what you describe, check out Willing to fly sometime. Cya D

Bwahaha.....It wasn't me that disappeared from the party with Slappie "to get some wood" ..... Besides, I said sweetie, not sweaty... Cya D

Snowie, you are one lucky dude...I'll be back in Scotland jumping kick ass Cessnas at the time when you are piling out of extremely strange looking aircraft. ... So how do you plan exiting the Carvair? door looks tricky? This looks like the thing they fly Airbus wings from England to France in, does anybody know if its the same aircraft?? Anyway, Cya D

An often overlooked factor here would be peer pressure, and brand loyalty. We've all been to predominantly Javelin, or Mirage, or Vector DZs. Is it surprising if people just want to fit in? A frequently asked newbie question is which container? How many jumpers instantly reply "product X I have one and love it wouldn't jump anything else". Skydivers, in my experience, are fiercely loyal to the equipment they jump regardless of perceived advantages of brand 'x' over brand 'y'. They will staunchly defend their equipment choice if asked in all innocence by a newbie. In my instance, I like dealing with my friends, I know Derro, so I use Javelin. I guess you could call it marketing and customer service. And its a whole easier to swear at someone you actually know.......should I ever have to, of course. Also consider national pride, in the UK its very common to see Teardrop Classics, and Superflys. PdF have a similar stronghold on a lot of French Dzs. Cya D

"The D license usually only shows up for the pro ratings and instructor stuff. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Or if you want to compete in a USPA sanctioned comp... " Okay, I'm coming in a little late folks so bear with me..... D licenses are in my experience extremely useful things to have, eg at competitions as stated earlier, they're also required for FAI world records and suchlike. However they are the most use when you are travelling, my old home DZ (in Scotland) for example has two landing areas, one for D license holders, and another (futher away) for everybody else. DZ operators are more likely to let you do your own thing, jump with anybody you want to etc, if you have a D license. Otherwise you may end up doing endless 'evaluation jumps' every time you show up at a new DZ. Which, if you need one, is probably not a bad thing. In short, a D license is kinda like a skydiving passport....My UK D license has never been questioned or challenged at any DZ I have visited. Cya D

http://www.gyron.com/ Has the details...... Cya D
-
A lot of this is explained on the good stuff DVD. I think its basically a very long lens with a depth of field that 'flattens' the image, making the subjects appear much closer to the ground than they actually are. I think the setup is called a 'Gyron' or somthing similar, I think there are stabilising gyroscopes etc in the mount, and its fixed in a chopper door. But I may be wrong, have been before, will be again...... I think the effect is stunning by the way. Cya D

Hey Paul, agreed on the warranty issues, but this is the point I picked up on. "they also told me that even if it was covered they wouldnt do it for free because it was used skydiving" I know for a fact that Sony won't touch my PC7, which is in desperate need of some service work, all because I had to hack the operating software to DV in-enable it grrr...nash, nash, stupid Sony Europe didn't release DV in-enabled uprights till the PC100 (or thereabouts), crazy or what? Cya D
-
Odd thing huh? When the PC7 was first launched and marketed in the UK, they had a 'skydive wedding' as the TV advert with Wendy Smith and Patrick de Gayardon as the happy couple, filming each other with said PC7s. So are Sony now saying their cameras are unsuitable for such use? Cya D

"The suits do, however, cost $20,000 each." Do they do them in purple tie dye? Cya D

This just in from my friends...... Seven bartenders were asked if they could identify personality on what drinks were chosen. Though interviewed separately, they concurred on almost all counts. The results: IF WOMEN DRINK: Drink : Beer. Personality : Casual, low maintenance; down to earth. Approach : Challenge her to a game of pool. Drink : Blender drinks with umbrella. Personality : Flaky, annoying, dizzy, and a pain in the ass. Approach: Avoid her, unless you want to be her cabin boy. Drink : Mixed drinks no umbrellas Personality : Mature, has picky taste; knows what she wants. Approach: If she wants you, she'll send YOU a drink. Drink : Wine (bottled not 4 litre cask) Personality : Conservative and classy, sophisticated. Approach : Try and weave Paris and clothing into the conversation. Drink : Bacardi Breezer, Smirnoff ice, Vodka mule, etc Personality : Easy; thinks she is trendy and sophisticated actually has absolutely no clue. Approach : Make her feel smarter than she is...and you're in. Drink : Baileys. Personality : Annoying voice, bit of a tart. Approach : Stand close and mention the alley next to the pub. Drink : Shorts (Vodka, Aftershock etc.). Personality : Hanging with male pals or looking to get drunk...and naked. Approach : Easiest hit in the pub. Nothing to do but wait. IF MEN DRINK As always, very simple and clear cut. Cider : He's probably underage and wants to get laid. Cheap Domestic Beer : He's poor / student and wants to get laid. Premium Local Beer : He likes good beer and wants to get laid. Bitter : He's old, he likes good beer and wants to get laid. Imported Beer : He likes expensive beer and wants to get laid Guinness : The man is a rapist and will get laid one way or another. Wine : He's hoping that the wine thing will give him a sophisticated image and help him get laid. Vodka or Brandy : Extremely horny hound, would shag a warm scarf. Desperate to get laid. Port : Thinks he's sophisticated, secretly likes men and wants to get laid. Whisky : He doesn't give two shits about anything and will hit anyone who will get in his way of getting laid. Jack Daniels : Not as masculine as the whisky drinker, knows all about feminine activities (knitting, crochet etc.) to weasel himself into getting laid. Tequila : Likes fighting almost as much as getting laid. Bacardi Breezer, Smirnoff ice, Vodka mule, etc : He's gay (Blatantly). Cya D
