Getting to Rantoul? (Which Airport?)
Thanatos340 replied to Thanatos340's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Out of Atlanta, It looks like I have 4 Choices on airports to fly into for the WFFC... Midway, O’Hare, Bloomington or Champaign. All 4 cost basically the same. I know Champaign is the closest but I would have to change planes in Cincinnati with a two hour layover and the other 3 choices are nonstop. Which of the others would be best to fly into and easiest to get to Rantoul from? -
0:8:2 Eight Jumps. First Hop and Pop (for License Requirement, Liked it so much I did 2 more for the hell of it). First 5 way. Stood up 7 out of 8 Landings. My new Pilot 188 Rocks!!

Who is going to the Farm for the $110 weekend?
Thanatos340 replied to JRock's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Add me to the list. -
Costa Rica. Beautiful County (Outside of San Jose), Very Friendly People. Rain Forrest, Cloud Forrest, Black Sand Beaches, Surfing, Canopy Tours, Volcanoes, Natural Hot Springs. Great Place to visit. Usually find Airfare for around $450 from most major cities. Hotels are reasonable. No Visa requirements. Fairly Safe (in most places). I have been to Costa Rica 5 Times and can’t wait to go back.

Going to WFFC with Less than 50 Jumps?
Thanatos340 replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, I am not. That is why I am not trying to bust my ass to get the other 20 Jumps I need in the next couple weeks so that I can squeak by the minimum Numbers. I understand why the 50 Jump Rule is in place. Even if I do happen to get the required Jumps in time, I still may not be completely comfortable jumping airspace that crowded. Which brings me back to my original question: If I can’t (or dont plan to) jump, is it worthwhile to still go to Rantoul? -
Going to WFFC with Less than 50 Jumps?
Thanatos340 replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am trying to decide if it is worth it to go to the WFFC for a 4 day weekend if I will not be able to jump there? I will be borderline by the time the WFFC rolls around with the required jump numbers and probably will not have the Required 50 Jumps. Part of me really wants to go just to see what it is all about and see what I can learn while I am there but I know it is going to suck to be sitting on the ground while everyone else is jumping. Is it really worth it to make the trek just to hang out? Any suggestions on ways an low-time Jumper can get the most out of WFFC if they are not able to jump? -
The worst DZ I Jumped at was the first one I went to. It was in 1992 in Chattanooga TN. It was called High Adventure Mountain Sports. It had a lot in common with the Fandango DZ. The guy that ran the place also had a Bungee Tower and Hand Gliding Simulator (Basically a Hanging off a Cable that ran from the top of the 120’ cliff to the ground). We were Jumping Piglet 23 Rounds and using a Cessna 152. The same guy was the pilot and the instructor. They used a Modified Static Line Course but there was no Static Line. Once you got to altitude (3000 Ft) you handed your Pilot Chute to the Pilot/Instructor and got out on the strut. After you jumped, the Pilot/Instructor would hold onto the Pilot Chute until your pin was pulled and then release it. You were guided to the ground (with what little control you had with a Piglet 23) by a local Kid standing in a Big Arrow who had never jumped and never really done this before. I jumped there twice before I thought that maybe this wasn’t the best place to learn.

Would you like to go back to my tent and dirt dive a Naked 100 point 2 way? If your friend wants to join us, we can make it a 3 way.

I am a very serious Player. I have been playing online for 3 years. I put in way too many hours a week between PartyPoker and Pokerstars (LrdThanatos) and I occasionally play at UB (Shutupandjump) I also play allot of live Tournaments, I have played in two WPT events the first year. In the Casinos Europa (Costa Rica) Event I finished 23rd. I won a small tournament in Tunica in February and I will be in Vegas in Late July for another Tournament that I already won a seat in. Even got my Picture in a Gambling magazine (Page 17) While we were on rain delay a few weeks ago, I taught my DZO to play, Now if I can just get him to play for jump tickets I will have it made.

I have a daughter (Named Evelyn Coincidentally) and we have a very close bond. My daughter’s interests have always been closer to mine than her mothers. We got involved in racing NHRA Junior Dragsters when she was 8 and she has always loved fast cars. Now she is very active in the local community theater (another passion that we share.) Her mother has always wanted her get involved in Softball and/or Cheerleading, Something my daughter is just not interested in. My daughter is definitely more like me than her mother (I am not so sure that is a good thing sometimes.. ) and I think that is why we are so close, We understand each other.. Most of the time anyway.

I had planned on buying used. I shopped around and even finally found a good rig for me for about $2,300. Then the weekend before I was going to mail the check, I went to a Boogie and won a Drawing 50% off a complete new custom Aerodyne Rig (container, main and reserve). Really made my decision very easy. Brand new custom rig for less than the used one was going to cost. It just came in yesterday!! Woo Hoo!!

Data Panel from my Brand New Smart 175.. Max Deployment Speed - 150 Knots Max Exit Weight - 264 Lbs.

Not a Cheep Issue at all. I dont mind paying for a full repack. Like I said, It costs less to get the rig the repacked again next week than it would be to rent gear for this weekend. The Money is definately not the issue. I just wasnt sure if would be a Huge hassle or not for the rigger to have to go back into the rig next week to install the cypres.

Soon as I get home.

My new Rig (Icon, Pilot and Smart) was just delivered today. Woo Hooo!! Aerodyne Rocks!! I cant wait to get home from work so I finally get to see it. Now the Bad News.. My Cypres will not get back from its 4 year until Monday. (SSK is shipping it out today but would not change it to overnight even though I offered to pay the difference Plus an "Inconvenience Fee". They "already logged off the UPS Software". Real customer service there!!) I REALLY want to jump my new rig this weekend. My rigger said he could get it inspected, assembled and Packed on Friday Night but that was before we knew the cypres would not be here. I could either get the rig packed and jump this weekend and then pay for another repack next week once the cypress comes in or I could wait until next week and Just jump rental Gear this weekend (Rental Gear for the weekend will actually cost more than a Second Reserve Repack) I know the Reserve has to be popped for the Cypres Installation, But will the rigger really have to do a full repack just to install the cypres? Should I just wait to get the rig assembled?

This was one of the funniest Radio Shows I have ever listened to. From Neil Boortz: Let's go back about 14 years. I was working at a much smaller radio station then and wasn't syndicated. I told my listeners that I had learned of an interesting competition that was going to take place "at an airport south of Atlanta." It was the Georgia Cat Chasing Championships. The purpose was to choose a champion to send to the national contest a month later. Cat chasing, for those of you who don't know, is the sport of cramming about eight skydivers and one cat into an airplane. When you get to 10,000 feet you toss the cat out. The skydivers then pile out and go after the cat. Whoever lands with the cat is the winner. To make a long story short … we spent about four weeks promoting the show. I had guests come by for quick appearances. Past champions, judges, sponsors and contestants. On the day of the "competition" we did a "live" remote broadcast. I sat in the studio with a cast of about five people and about 60 sound effects. We had crowd noise, helicopters, the sounds of screaming cats, airplanes, parachutes opening, wind noise … you name it. We had a chain saw used to get a cat out of a tree. We had the sound of an uncaught cat falling through the air. Let me tell you, we gave the audience one helluva show. We had county sheriffs all over South Georgia rushing to their local airports afraid that this competition was going on in their jurisdictions. What fun we had! At the end of the show we told those listeners who hadn't figured things out that it was all a spoof. We then produced a tape of the show and sold it for $10 a hit. The total proceeds went to the Fund for Animals. We raised thousands. Well – we didn't go to quite the same lengths yesterday. All I did was mention the contest and my participation. Amazingly – many people bought it. Here's the latest e-mail tally as of 6:00 a.m.: E-mails telling me they laughed their butts off: 239 E-mails telling me they would never listen to my show again: 67 E-mails telling me they were going to call all my sponsors and organize boycotts: 21 E-mails from affiliate station managers telling me they were getting demands that my show be dropped: 2 E-mails from cat-haters who wished the whole story was true: 5

Forget about taking Friends to the DZ with you. It is much better to go by yourself. You will meet more people that way and also have the opportunity to learn alot more if you are hanging out with the more experienced jumpers instead of a Wuffo buddy. Take the extra cash you were going to blow on that tandem and do alot more jumps with it.

Uhh, Lets see, it cost me my House, my Car, my life savings and What little was left of my Sanity. That was one VERY expensive ring. I miss my Ex. (But my aim is getting better).
-
This is an easy one.. Get her a new Rig!! (Sized to fit you of course!!) Make sure it arrives on Friday, so when she kicks you out you can spend the entire weekend at the DZ jumping it instead of wasting a perfectly good jumpable Sunday celebrating a 1/2 year anniversary.

Last Year, I bought my Daughter the Game Cube (She was 11 then) because it had the games she liked, Mario and others. That did not last long at all before she grew out of those games. We just packed everything up a few months ago and traded everything for a Playstation2 and PS2 Games. No good games for the Game cube compared to the Playstation. The game cube was geared much more for children than “Tweens”. The games my daughter really loves now are the Sim`s Games. She also really liked Gauntlet - Dark Legacy and Bauldors Gate. You cant go wrong with a PS2.

Dude!! I can sympathize with you so much on this one. I have a 12-year-old daughter. I went through almost the same exact thing last 2 report cards. Grand Parents Pissed off. Her Mom says I am being way too hard. Daughter not speaking to me for days. In my daughter’s case, She Drag Races in NHRA Jr. Dragsters. The first time she got an unacceptable Grade on her report card was right before a national Meet. I caved in and let her go anyway because the nationals were a big deal and the entire family had plans to go even though our deal had always been she only races with all A`s and B`s. Next Report Card (again right before another National Meet) No Improvement at all. Hotels had already been booked at the track; Arrangements for travel and an extra day off work for family members planning on going had been made. This time I kept my promise. No Go until the grades came up. Everyone was upset with me. Just got the call today with the year end Grades... All A`s and B`s. Really makes me wish I had not caved in the first time she brought home a bad grade. Looks like we will be finally racing again. Its tough playing the heavy but you have to do what you know is right.
