  1. I had the same problem with my Mom many years ago. She kept after me about "Finding a nice girl and settling down". After about 2 years of this, I happened to be on a Road trip going through Vegas with a Girl I met a few weeks before. I called Mom from Vegas and told her that I had finally done what she had been nagging me about. She Replied, "You found the one?". "I hope so" I said, "We are in Vegas, so we got Married last night!!” She was speechless for awhile and then started with the "How could you!!" "I haven’t even met her" “You just met” and other babbling. I told her it was a bad connection and that I would have to call her later. I didn’t call back until the next day to let her know it was a Joke. She didn’t find the joke anywhere as amusing as I did but she never again asked me when I planned on getting married or even if I dating anyone. Works Great. Give it a try.
  2. Mostly Old School. The current CD in the Player is a Mix of SubHumans, GBH, DRI, DK, SOD, Black Flag and Big Black. The other CD`s in changer right now are Patsy Cline, Kelly Hogan, Iron Maiden and Concrete Blonde. All depends on my Mood.
  3. The Farm Rocks!! Plain and simple. I made my first (and definitely not my last) visit there Saturday. These guys are doing a great job and have created a really great environment in every way imaginable. A very relaxing place to get in some jumps and hang out with some really nice people. This place will be the premiere DZ in the area very soon.
  4. I would also like to point out that if you plan on replacing your rental gear every few years and selling the older stuff. Then you only need to base all your calculations on the Depreciation of the Rig instead of the full purchase cost. Example: You buy a new Rig for $3K, Every Three Years you sell it for $1500 and Replace it with another $3K newer Rig. It only cost you $500 a year plus your maintenance costs (Figure 5 Reserve Repacks a Year at $40 each ($200) and one Cypres Cutter Replacement at $150.) Your cost of ownership for each rig is $850 per year. Using your 3 day per week guideline at $50 per day for 50 weeks a year, Each Rig would generate $7,500 per year in income. It would seem that would help cover overhead and profit pretty nicely. Looks like a good business proposition to me. And I really like the fact that you are spelling everything out in a written agreement. It definitely avoids confusion and conflict after a problem has come up.
  5. I think these whistles are a great idea. I went searching for them at several dealer sites and finally found them. I tried to attach a picture here but that didn’t work quite right, you have to hit "Alt"-"F4" to bring up the attachment for some strange reason.
  6. What Plane you guys Flying? Do you have Student Gear/Rental Rigs? Gotta website? How big is the Landing area?
  7. The Bottom line here is that we are Guests in HH`s house. He can make whatever rules he wants and change them anytime he feels like it. He doesn’t have to be fair or unbiased (although it seems he usually is else this site would not have grown into what it is). If you disagree, Start your own site and make your own rules. I always looked at Talkback like a Virtual Bon-Fire after a day of jumping. Everyone sitting around babbling about whatever. It was a Place to meet others and socialize. If you had something to say Skydiving related, there was some other appropriate forum for it. I hope he decides to bring it back (soon too, I am getting way too much done at work lately and the boss might catch on and actually expect me to keep this up. Lol!!) $20 for the right to Post in Talkback?? Sounds reasonable to me. Status in Talkback based on how much you donate? Sounds like a good plan. Keep Talkback open for everyone to view but only people who help support the site get the right to post in Talkback. This should keep the advertisers happy and generate some additional income for the site.
  8. I agree that you should pay for the Repack in most cases, But as the Owner of the gear, It costs $45 every 120 Days (depending on where you are) to have the reserve repacked. That should be factored into the cost for renting out the rig. In the example above, the repack is due and the reserve gets used. The owner is not out of any additional money. Why should the Jumper have to pay for the repack? The Owner has already factored the cost of this repack into the money that they have collected in rental fees. No Loss has been suffered by the Owner. Seems like an unscrupulous Owner would hope that everyone has a Mal on their rigs when it is close to Repack Time so they can save a lot of money. And hey if the main gets lost in the process, they get to upgrade their canopy’s too. They should offer a $50 bonus to any packer that packs a mal on a rental rig that is close to its reserve repack. They stand to really increase profits that way. The Replacement Value vs. Fair Market Value would not hold up in any court anywhere. If your car gets totaled, you get its value based on age, condition and mileage not a the cost of a brand new car. If you lose a Canopy, You are responsible for the cost of that canopy (considering Age, condition and number of jumps) not $1,200 for a brand new canopy (Unless it was a Brand new Canopy that you just lost.) I had a canopy get damaged on a rental rig on my 15th jump. After I deployed and started my control check, I noticed a Pilot chute and free bag floating away. I started looking below to see who had the cut away. Hmm, everyone under their mains. Look up and realize that it was my Main`s D-bag and Pilot Chute that was drifting off. After double checking everything completely, I see that there nothing else wrong with it and land it. Found out that the Stitching around the Attachment point on the main had failed. I did offer to pay the DZO for the damage but they said it was not my fault and that there nothing I could have done about it. Are you saying that I should have paid for/was responsible for that damage?
  9. Like most everything else, this has been discussed here before but it is not a bad thing to bring it up again every so often. I am lucky enough to have 4 Dz`s with-in 1 1/2 Hour drive of my house. Soon as I graduated from AFF, My home DZ was closed for a couple weeks due to Airport Politics. I took that opportunity to visit all the other area DZ`s to see what they had to offer. The first one I went to, I showed up at 8:00 am Saturday morning and hung out in the Packing area for over 4 hours without ever meeting a single person. Not the vibe I was looking for. Next I went to a Big DZ south of town. There I did run into a Jumper from Home DZ and hung out with them while I watched a few loads come in. Again I didn’t meet anyone from that DZ. Not even a "Hi, How’s it going". Finally I went to the area DZ with the worst reputation. Soon as I walked in, A Staff member came up and introduced themselves, gave me a tour of the place and introduced me to several regulars. The landing area scared the hell out of me compared to what I was used to, But the jumpers and staff were friendliest outside of my Home DZ. Just based on that I decided that I would return in the future when I was more comfortable with my canopy skills. The other two, well I would only go back if I went with other jumpers I knew. My Home DZ is the smallest (number of jumpers, but by far largest landing area) and I could not imagine anyone ever walking up and not meeting every single jumper with-in 30 minutes. It just wouldn’t happen. Some of that may be the size factor. When you have 20 to 30 regular jumpers, it is very easy to notice someone new. At the busier DZ`s it is easy to get lost in the crowd. This weekend if you see someone you don’t know at your DZ, Say "Hi". It does make a big difference.
  10. Go to the DZ to bitch about not being able to jump, of course!!
  11. Is it here yet? Is it here yet? Yep, Just placed the order for my BEEEER!! Rig. I won a 50% off complete Rig (Container, Main and Reserve) from Aerodyne at the Dublin Boogie last weekend. Check it out and tell me what you think!! (Is it here yet??)
  12. I Drank!! I Jumped!! I Won 50% off a brand new complete Rig (Yes Mouth, I owe you just like in Prison!! Aerodyne is da Bomb too for giving up the loot) Met lots of DZ.com`ers. Passed out Jell-O shooters to all the Dz.com Hotties I could find (and had a few myself.. Shooters that is.) Drank More! Watched a Rodriguez Brothers Initiation. I bitched about the winds all day today cause I couldn’t jump more!! Not a Bad Weekend!!
  13. I agree completely. Too Bad John Steakley has only written Two Books and John Carpenter destroyed his other book in that horrible movie. Steakley is the only writer I have ever found that could really compare to Heinlein and he doesn’t write much.
  14. Heinlein is by far my favorite writer. I have almost every book he has written and will definitely be adding this one to my collection. Favorites include: The Moon is a Harsh Mistress The Cat who walks through walls and Time enough for love If you like Heinlein, Spider Robinson has similar character development and a Heinlien`esk writing style. If you really liked Starship Troopers, Try Enders Game by Orson Scott Card or Armor by John Steakly TANSTAAFL!! (There Aint no Such Thing as a Free Lunch!!)
  15. Sitting at a bar one night right around closing time. The bartender announces last call. I notice a Hottie standing nearby that i had never seen before and say "They are closing up here so where are you taking me next?" She replies "Ummm.. My house" and off we went. That was the first time a "LINE" ever worked that well for me. We ended up going out several times after that night.
  16. I need to be reclassified!! Found um Rig!! (Even having it delivered to the Boogie for me. My DZO Rocks!!) Someone should put up a Roll Call in Talkback so we can see who all will be there. I look forward to meeting you guys Friday night.
  17. Which ever one that is going to be picking up the Tab!!
  18. It seems that most agree that DZ Attitude is the most important factor in choosing a Home DZ. Is DZ Attitude something that can really be defined? My Home DZ`s Attitude is definitely on the laidback side. Very Relaxed, very friendly and open. I have never seen anyone not want jump with anyone else ever. Soon as I completed AFF, I had several VERY experienced Jumpers wanting to take me up "teach me bad habits" soon as possible. I never heard of any one paying for a Coach jump even though we have some very qualified coaches. If you need to work on something, ask around and someone will help you. Southern Hospitality at its finest is how I would define the attitude at my home DZ. How would you define the Attitude at your Dropzone?
  19. I couldn’t agree with you more. I have a 2 SKS`s (1 Preban with Folding Pistol Grip Stock, 30 round clips, Bayonet, Flash Suppressor and Hell fire Attachment and one post-ban with uhhhhh.. well its pretty too.) And a Remington 742 Carbine Good old Hunting Rifle. No question which one I grab if needed protection. The Remington has twice the range, more accurate, more stopping power and a lot more reliable. The other two are just fun to take out for stress relief and a hell of allot cheaper to shoot.
  20. I disagree completely. There is a great deal of topical value in the banter that is going back and forth in this thread. The subject is how to get (or Attract) women. The best way to attract women (in my opinion) is to be confident in being yourself and not take yourself too seriously. The one-liners, humorous diatribes and flirting are exactly what attract most women and completely on topic here. While this may not be your idea of the "Perfect Man", it is what will work for most people. You want a serious answer: 1. Be yourself. 2. Be confidant in who you are. 3. Never take yourself too serious. If you can’t make a Girl smile, you do not have a chance. Translation: Sit at the bar and Lick your eyebrows.
  21. NSFW!!! or for my eyes!!!
  22. Is that instruction for keeping a Dog or a Significant other??
  23. Do you have any specific Dating Prejudices? Example= I would never Date a Wuffo. or I Don’t date Musicians or I would never date someone Taller/shorter than me? I generally joke that I have 3 Rules: 1. No Redheads 2. No Strippers. 3. No women from Alabama!! But only because it so much fun to break these rules from time to time just to remind myself why I created them.
  24. Not even if I get a Boo Boo and I really need a Hottie to kiss it and make it better?? Dang!! There goes my other line.
  25. But it is not a bad way to break the ice!! And it does get their Attention.
