Before you can participate in the numerous naughty threads here in the bonfire, there's several rules, guidelines and requirements you have to meet. 1) Mental bleach required. 2) You can't think of anything the three Smutsketeers haven't thought of already. 3a) If you're a woman, you must participate in this game. 3b) If you like women (all nice and PC here..) this is required reading. 4) Do not open any of Billy Vance's attachment unless I) you have a strong stomach, II)you are not at work. III) you have a strong stomach, IV)seriously, you have a strong stomach 5) Skymama isn't as innocent as she pretends to be. : 4 : 0 Four awesome CRW-instruction jumps at the Rubberduckieboogie with Eward Slot as my coach. Thanks again Eward, I learned a lot 30 mins under canopy in one single day. I was initially trained on ripcord mains. Sorry for the confusion. I've gone and edited my first post for clarification. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Crudely speaking, the US system allows people of 25 jumps each to jump together. I think that a full face might actually be a good idea to prevent foot-in-mouth disease. Of course, it's best to make some 'acclimatisation' jumps with the new type of helmet.. that means solo jumps. Re: oxygen jumps, that's another case of know your gear - whether you'll have trouble with the full face depends on the oxygen system (I think). Check before boarding. Or take off your helmet at 1k and put it back on when the oxygen is stored. But what if you break your left hand upon exit? Are you one-thousand percent sure you can pull the soft handle with your right hand? Other than that, you seem to have thought this through. Well done!

So is hand deployment. Think of a lazy throw for instance.

Why? I predict jumpers would take turns at being the DGIT so the rest of the load would have a guaranteed soft landing. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Perris minor incident May 9 - pattern error
Baksteen replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
You walked away? I'll go with good landing. Not entirely true. An instructor would call it at best a "you walked away so it was a good landing. However......" it wasn't the BEST decision. I should have PLF'd. You don't want to PLF, you'll get injured eventually. It's that simple. I don't understand this statement, could you please explain? Perris minor incident May 9 - pattern error
Baksteen replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
It IS the smart thing to do if the policy to follow the first man down. You don't agree, you land away from the landing area. Yes, good idea. But low winds can be unpredictable and at Perris the wind is unpredictable all the time. Would you do a 180 at 500 ft to land into the wind? Hence the comment about not chasing windsocks. I demo'd a PD160 reserve which had rather short brakelines (stall point just with toggles just below my ribcase). At altitude I had carefully determined the stallpoint and figured I could stand up the landing. My right thigh muscles ached for three days, but I stood up the landing = it was a good landing, right? PDF's new website www.parachutedefrance.com i'm a very bad person
Baksteen replied to crashtested's topic in Gear and Rigging
I see that www.underthebridge.com is also still available for purchase. Though I agree that it looks like PdF didn't handle the situation very well, but being vindictive will get you nowhere. At best it's merely counter-productive - an action like this does little for your credibility. Certainly - but I was talking specifically about the flare/landing itself. -

I will jump out of a plane, but I will not....
Baksteen replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
..learn to drive. All that money I save in fuel and road taxes can be diverted to skydiving. All I have to do is pay my friends gas money for the occasional carpool, for which is a universally accepted currency. Er, hang on... Anyway, I can get almost anywhere by public transport in the Netherlands. Besides, driving to work is not an alternative during rush hour.. Should abortion be allowed in cases of rape or incest?
Baksteen replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Define 'religion'. As I understood it, even the earliest humans /cavemen / homo erecti exibited "religion" of some sorts.. Religion is IMO partially a product of humans trying to explain the unexplainable. Note that I'm speaking of religion in general and that I am not slamming any modern or ancient faith in particular. Then again, those who believe in a creation theory don't believe in 'early humans' as science does, so there's no point in flaming me about this post. Lastly, I agree 100% with 'Shotgun' - I'm not religious yet I have morals. A lot of what religion "made into" morals are actually plain common sense. Perris minor incident May 9 - pattern error
Baksteen replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I've experienced first hand why the FMD rule is a good idea at a DZ like Perris. Also the pattern is logical (landing North = left hand, landing south = right hand in order to avoid flying over the runway at low altis). What I don't understand is why some (judging by canopy size) experienced jumpers insist on landing opposite to what you'd expect. Say a RW group is setting up to land N, which is the preferred direction in low, variable winds. You adjust accordingly. Then they are overtaken by a freeflyer with a small canopy who lands South. What you'd get (in my eyes) is confusion with everyone having to adjust their pattern (which can be challenging if you are already on final), land in the big dirt circles or land in that foxtail shit. Having said that, I've also found that it's very tempting to give in to 'Get-Home-itis'.. it took a potentially very nasty landing to wake me up as to what I was doing. Disclaimer I'm not saying that freeflyers are unsafe, I just used that in my example because freeflyers get out after the RW jumpers. Well, and because I was reminded of That One Guy who'd land any old how since he spoke enough English to manifest, but too little for stuff like following/understanding the pattern. On the plus side, he only jumped for one weekend. Perhaps he got grounded -
Poe, wet T-shirt, washing her car.... I'd go dude....I've seen her contribution to the rack thread.

Where would you draw the line where 'human DNA' is concerned? The DNA of even the common mouse is ~80% comparable to to human DNA. Let alone primate DNA. Where does an animal stop being an animal? No, I'm not buying the DNA argument either. -
Light students - which solution would you prefer
Baksteen replied to Baksteen's topic in Instructors
Well at my DZ we're just putting lighter students under 220 Fury's. This is purely hypothetical. My thoughts were as follows: Small, light jumper --> they get a small canopy (say a 170 as that is the smallest allowed.) ---> they get to jump with other people. Result We have a 50 jump wonder with a small canopy AND lead in order to keep up with their heavier jumping buddies. But I should have said 'novice' instead of student -
That can be arranged. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
