  5. I don't think it's as black and white as we make it seem. A clique as I see it is something 'undesirable' from a social point of view. Of course it's allright if you want to sit with your friends, but to simply ignore everyone else in whatever setting you happen to be is IMO just plain ridiculous. I'm talking about the kind of people who always hang together to the point that a wedding seems not to be about the happy couple, but about the clique standing in a corner (or wherever) drinking the beer and eating the food while at the same time being a completely seperate entity from all the other people present. Frankly, I really don't understand why the people I'm thinking of keep getting invited. I wasn't either. I was thinking of a specific example: When the orchestra I used to be a member of rehearsed in another location then usual, I asked the person who lives across the street from my parents for a ride. Afterwards, being dependent on the guy to get back home I naturally went to stand with him and I offered him a drink for his trouble. Of course I extended the offer to his three friends. No sooner had the beerglass touched the beermat or the guy turned his back on me, closing off the circle without even acknowledging my existence. Even people on the other side of the room were staring at him with their mouths open. By the way, I didn't call that a learning experience, but a 'fuck you asshole - I'll walk home'-experience. 6. Flirting is a game. Dating... I'm just plain old me. We go somewhere with no more expectations than to have a good time. See how it goes from there. I call her because I feel like it - not because I 'have to'. It works. Not with all women obviously, but with the ones I'm attracted to it does. 7. Just combine the best of both worlds: Coffee with -baileys -drambouie -amaretto -whiskey -frangelico -cointreau -grand marinier -tia maria -Cointreau AND tia maria -bailey's AND tia maria (whipped cream optional) Should get you through the morning "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  8. Three bathrooms, one of which opens onto the parking lot as well as the hallway or room wherin it is situated. Unfortunately the jacuzzi ou back was broken, but the beds were decent which is the most important thing. Besides, Sue the caretaker does what she can to keep the house clean and is a nice person who is always up for a chat. I had good roomies both weeks I stayed there, no loud drunks (except me). I also liked the fact that there's a living room with a TV and radio and an ample supply of DVDs and VHS. If ever I return to Perris I'll be staying in IHOP again - a steal at $18 a night.
  9. I date on the first fuck - so what's your point? "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom
  10. When looking at a clique outside of the DZ contesxt, yes - they definitely do exist. It's not just a matter of 'friends hanging with friends', but doing so by actively excluding others - while not being too proud to accept any beer that passes them. Whether these are the people you actually want to associate with is a different matter. 11. Thanks! My GF had the most original surprise birthday gift for me.
  12. I don't understand. Why would people even listen to that? This world has become too confusing for me. It's called 'indoctrination', though possibly not spelled 'indoctrination'. 15. Wrong. Whining about landing direction is a good indicator for presence of out-of-control idiots. I shouldn't need my mad skillz to make a safe straight-in landing in the main landing area. Not every single jump in any case. What about the students who haven't got skills yet? Should they be left to fend for themselves as well? Instead, use your skills to land according to the pattern. Or to set the pattern in a (to other jumpers) predictable way. Besides, stricter rules give the S&TA's/I's/DZO's/whomever something to use against the loose cannons (read: assholes). Don't like it? Don't tell me to f*ck off and start my own DZ, but do so yourself. I don't know you and am not saying you fall in this category, but I'm sure you know people who do. Yes, you struck a nerve wth me.
  16. : 1 : beer owed and paid for graduating the Help Instructor (HI)-course on Friday and for dropping static liners for the first time on saturday, albeit under strict supervision of the chief-instructor. So just one jump but - wow! The image of 'my' two first-jump students leaving our 182 with a huge grin on their faces and in a near perfect boxman is simply burned into my retinae. I couldn't believe how proud of them I was Upon my own exit, I couldn't suppress a loud whoop of joy. What an incredible feeling - this is what it's all about! 17. 1) I needed a challenge in myt life. That's why I got looking into skydiving. Next, I wanted to prove to mylef that I could/would. 2) never had an experience like that before..I wanted more 3)..and more. The friends, the aforementioned mental vaction, living in the moment, the challenge/fun of accomplishing the dirt dive or training students... the list goes on and on.
  18. FMD is less complicated than a set landing direction????? FMD is what is so complicated and what causes so many problems. I think the problem is that there's different situations and that no solution will work at every DZ. My DZ uses the set landing pattern because the winds are only variable when negligible (0-2 m/s). I landed downwind (accoridng to the T) yesterday (wind=2 m/s) because I had a jump student behind me whom I didn't want to confuse any further. Only difference for me was that after a smooth landing I had to run really hard while thinking I'm not gonna fall over.. I'm not gonna fall over. However, while jumping at a certain American DZ, the rule was to land North, unless the winds are strong and dictate South - but FMD sets the pattern. I confess that I was nervous the first few times I jumped there, but when i saw that even the winds around my personal limit (9m/s) can change between boarding time and jump run, I understood the sense of applying the FMD rule - at that DZ. Whatever solution is applied, the problem is people not using their common sense. Chasing windsocks while coming straight in, or seeming to land one way but doing a 180 on final and thus necessitating all other canopies to change their pattern at the last minute is what makes the sky unsafe. Or worse, some people not changing their pattern after the FMD blew it and landing in opposite directions.. IMO it's up to the DZ to enforce the rules they themselves set. First by a (public) talking-to, after several offences a grounding. 19. Re: the first two replies to my post, I call BULLSHIT. Other people cannot behave themselves in the plane, in freefall or under canopy = the people who try to should quit skydiving? If your attitude would really be like that, it would tell me more than enough about your behaviour. 20. The problem is that most people in this thread are assuming that ALL skydivers use their common sense while landing. The real question is: what can we do to protect ourselves against the skygods? 23. If that will float your boat...... you better be careful with your words.. you know why a trainwreck is a trainwreck!? coz I fucked with it! And here I thought a trainwreck was called a trainwreck because the train got in a wreck... silly me... yea, you are silly!
  24. What he's saying is that he had no idea what he was talking about in the first place and now he's trying to cover.
