What are your first impressions of a dropzone...
Baksteen replied to Husker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In itself the sticker wouldn't influence my opinion. I'd just ask them what the sticker signified. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
doing a good job anyways. To the OP, I recommend the flat pack as well. It's a lot more orderly when you are just learning than the pro-pack. Like you, I wasn't born knowing how to pack either, but what works very well in order to catch up to the others is dedicating some rainy sunday afternoons to packng. An experienced skydiver could help you and probably will if you give them enough beer afterwards. Fixed it for you. : 0 : 0 Helped teach FJC on Saturday (with about twelve hours notification), but the sucky weather prevented students and experienced folk alike from jumping. Helped my GF move to her new appartment on Sunday.

People just need to learn to swallow. I'm just sayin'. I'm curious to see whose sigline you've made this time...you must be by far the most quoted person around here "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Now that was unexpected "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Propeller.... Thank god I've never had to experience that one since secondary school. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I'd check out some skiing pistes if in winter, or go 'skydiving between the alps' / 'glacier skydiving' in summer. That sounds awesome.

nope, your mains should not have anything to do with your safety meetings; mains have a tendency to be kinda unsafe, or they try to get you to be unsafe. we dont want that to happen! Yeah, it's all the main's fault Seriously though, I was talking about the kind of canopy of which you intimately know almost all the quirks. You know just how to pack it, it never gives you a slammer, it opens on heading etc. Who knows, maybe it is all body position, but even line twists are increasingly rare and becoming a thing of the past. Of course I'm talking about the type of rig here where you do not demo all kinds of different mains (or even reserves) just for fun or just because you can! I'd also like to submit that when you're talking gear rentals, it's getting really dangerous - no telling how many jumps were made on that canopy and by whom. Who can know how it was last packed - the very next time you pull you might end up in a shitload of trouble... So IMO if you're really into gear rentals be my guess, but for god's sake attend the safty meeting! Cutting away a main that one has jumped for years could well result in a safety meeting once one has aquired the next canopy... At least, if you're smart you'll attend a lot of safety meetings before proceeding to the dirt dive. Perhaps fluffers are like real life office secretaries (as opposed to porn secretaries - anyyone can 'have' one of those). You just have to be good enough to merit one. Why would anybody jump from a perfectly good airplane
Baksteen replied to BHogg's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have personally not often heard that particular one before. Lately I noticed people show the same interest as they would in a collegue/friend talking about their latest football match, or that they even start asking questions about 'how it works'. Gear questions, plane questions, prices, freefall, canopy, landing. I don't know. After a while I'm just someone witht a hobby. -
I looked it up for a laugh and was amazed to find some actual info: clicky On a TV show set or in a comedy club setting, "fluffer" can refer to a warm-up act, whose task it is to engage the audience prior to the arrival of the main attraction or in between takes. The DZ.COM FAIRY TALE...The adventure begins..
Baksteen replied to d_squared431's topic in The Bonfire
That's ok. -
Getting bored under canopy has little to do with it's size but a great deal with how good a pilot you are. Instead of downsizing, spend some time to truly learn how to fly (up high) rather than just 'getting down in one piece'. Trust me - it's fun

It's getting even more dubious if you only read the fragments I bolded.. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
How soon is too soon to start freeflying?

I don't understand why you didn't 'kick some ass on the ground' anyway. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -

Yep - it's safer that way. They smelled good though. You actually think a 40+ year old's thong smells good? Maybe you need your nose checked out. Permaban in 3...2...1... Miss ya, Billy! : 3 : 0 3 H&Ps from 3500 - still being checked out for JM/SL. According to the students my acting the role of 'experienced, unshakable, enthusiastic JM' is very convincing. That was after the -light came on and I was laughing with my CI and the students about me getting completely confused when the pilot intentionally went on jump run 45 degrees off the planned course, just to mess with my head. (Of course, the next jump i was prepared for anything but the CI and pilot were nice to me
