I bet that if a CHEAP alternative to Jet-A becomes available, skydiving operations will be among the first to switch over. I mean, who cares if the fuel is less than perfect - we all got perryshoots, right? Perhaps if the manufacturer throws in a free enjin mod, we could serve as test cases. After reading these two threads: poll: coach rating and Poll: Jump numbers for coach ratings it seems that there is no consensus among Joe Skydiver what the responsibilities of a coach are. I know that someone downthread will probably start linking the USPA SIM or somesuch document, but there is also the matter of cultural differences. What IS a coach? In the Netherlands a 'hulp instructeur' or 'deputy instructor' (HI) can be someone with 100 jumps, a B-licence and two years active in the sport. A HI is among other things licenced to drop SL students, teach the FJC, sign off licence requirements, brief and debrief students etc. Basically, they can assist the I with anything necessary for a skydiving day. A few important exceptions include licence exams, sanctions and a few more things like that. Though the ultimate responsibility is officially always resting with the I, any HI that I know takes their rating very seriously - as they should. To *observe* a student in freefall there is an additional requirement of 200 formation skydives (The regulations do not stipulate that an observer must have an HI or I-rating; apparently observers can also be experienced skydivers). To teach a student any kind of RW there's special coaches that are appointed by the DZ. Only they (and AFF-I's, duh) may jump with students. But only five of those coaching jumps are required for the A-licence, and only ten levels to be achieved before the student is allowed to funjump with any other person. Funny thing is that while (to the best of my limited knowledge) DZs seem to adhere to that system, these RW-coaches are not mentioned anywhere in the rules and regulations. I believe that in the Netherlands, the only 'coaches' are those people paid to improve an individual's skill in the discipline the coach is proficient at. What would have been really funny is if the anchor hadn't known about the communist music and digital decor until seeing the rerun on tv. Yes, I'm a basterd. The first message in my inbox is from 'degeneration' and a reply to something I asked them. The first person to actually send me a PM on their own initiative was 'Airtwardo' - a comment on a reply I made to 'Caption the avatar above you part two'. You *really* need to get laid I know you're visiting your parents an all so there's a problem with DIY activities - but several people in the other thread have chosen you. Why not pay them a visit (possibly all at the same time)? Viscosity breaks down at higher rpms - sometimes you just can't stop and have to go to red line! Good sex is all about self control my friend - a quality which you seem to be sadly lacking. Perhaps we should call you Lightspeed instead of Turtlespeed? Bwahahaha While you could use the public hot tub, a hot tub suite at a hotel is prolly preferabler. Plus you can throw bubbles in it too. Oh, hell no!! God only knows WTF was in there! At least at my house I know for sure what went down in there and know how well it was cleaned and disenfected.... And go sparingly on the bubble stuff... it can get outta control if you use too much. The key is to upend the bubblebottle just prior to checkout "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

No. Your USPA membership plus all its supporting documents (logbook, licence etc.) are sufficient. A FAI licence is only necessary if you wish to participate in international competitions (or so I believe to have read) "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Have you jumped for sustained periods of time...
Baksteen replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in The Bonfire
I second that... I voted 'yes' because I unintentionally spent a week jumping without insurance. My insurance company has licenced out the travelling insurance to another insurance company. Fine with me. So I do my homework and check that jumping injuries are covered, even if the 'aircraft' itself is not. The next year I almost forget to take out travelling insurance but the evening before I leave I remember to take out a policy. Great! Happy jumping holidays! When i return i find that the insurance company has licenced out the travelling insurance to -another- company...which doesn't cover skydiving - even under their special 'sports clausule'. I'm sorry but I disagree. I wanted my customers to be happy and have a good experience when going out to dinner... As many have said, as a waitor/waitress you generally work for much less than minimum wage-your tips are a big part of your earnings. If you -expect- a tip from customers 1) don't act like you do 2) earn it.

Adrenalin junkies in this sport
Baksteen replied to Baksteen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Despite myself, I let myself get drawn into a Youtube Flamefest about someone dying in a skydiving/BASE incident. No need to name the person involved. Between the trolls and indignant/self-righteous replies I found the following two quotes and it got me thinking: and Many good people retire from this sport (or BASE or any other extreme sport) because they get tired of it or 'because they get too old for this stuff' etc. or take a time out for various reasons. What is an adrenalin junkie? Any of the people involved in extreme sports? Or is an adrenalin junkie someone who will keep pushing their limits - someone who keeps seeking for that ultimate thrill, or at least that fresh new thrill until they find the limit that won't be pushed? Exceeding that limit they find their skills, or sometimes even considerable skills and natural talents lacking so they die? Is the true challenge of extreme sports knowing your limits? Knowing when to quit? Knowing when to quit pushing? Are you an adrenalin junkie? Why?
