Ah, I see. I didn't say Muslims aren't discriminated against, I said that in this issue (thread title) they are not discriminated against. A terrorist is a terrorist. I think if you look well enough, any 'group' of people discriminates against others, be it based on country of origin, ethnic status, skin colour, religious beliefs, political beliefs, dress code, amount of scalp hair, gender or whatever you can think of. I also think that (this thread aside) in some cases people are way too fast with pointing the finger at an opposing party and to accuse them of discrimination. Convenient argument - and as the accused party you'll have a hell of a time proving the opposite. Is it lame to match your canopy to your container?

Yes, but that didn't stop me. For my FJC I bought grey trekking sneakers, as I liked the 'cushioning' they had as well as the ankle support. Bought an altimeter off a friend. Black, as it happened. Bought a helmet. Not really thinking about gear, so took a black one. Bought a jumpsuit. Navy with gold grips and silver accents to separate the other colours. Bought a 2nd hand rig that fit well. Didn't know that it was black until I went to fit it. Bought gloves. Akandos fit really comfortably, and given the choice between balck and white I chose black - I don't want white in any of my gear because of the occasional screwup while landing. I know how to PLF and will do so when necessary or when in doubt. Demoe'd a Storm and fell in love.. Realised that all my gear was approximately the same colours, either black, grey, navy or gold. Figured if I had to shell out all that dough for a brand new canopy, it might as well match my other gear. ETA: I got one single red detail on all of my gear: My cutaway. It used to be a shade of green which went great with my suit, but I had it replaced. PS.The 'silver' of my reserve handle is of course completely different from the 'silver' in the fabric (just to forestall any smart as-, er..Alics). Why is static line a dying discipline?
Baksteen replied to kmills0705's topic in Safety and Training
That there is what really 'killed' SL: The attitude of experienced jumpers and the novice needing to be seen as cool. I've read this thread and skipped over most of the posts made by those who can only see one side of the argument. From the student's perspective, there IS no best training method. Some students will perform better with SL, others with AFF. Besides which, students from both methods will experience their own hiccups down the line. For SL, the first freeefall from 12k is just as terrifying as the first CP from 3.5k is to AFF. AFF might produce better freefallers, but SL could produce better canopy flyers. In the end it's all the same and ideally it should be up to the student to decide which method appeals to them most. In practice.... Uh-huh. And now think about that public bathroom at the same convenience store, and all the people that hold their dick while urinating, and don't wash up afterwards. Now figure out how to get out of that bathroom without touching that doorknob that has the dick germs from a thousand other men on it... Use the paper towel you dried your hands off with and then throw it away after leaving the restroom. If they only have blow dryers, use toilet paper or an ass gasket. A what? What's this got to do with muslims/non-muslims being called terrorists? Let's be honest with each other - wherever two sides are aligned against each other and politics are involved, neither side can be trusted fully by an outside observer. As to the Roman Catholic infiltrations: that noone has claimed they are infiltrated doesn't mean they aren't. What with the pedophilia charges a few years ago it mightn't have been such a bad idea at the time either... Anyone ever told you that you are a spoiled brat? What happened to him? You are joking about it so i trust it's nothing serious? My weekend: :2:0 2 Two nice two-ways with Andrea at Skydive Rotterdam, who turns out to have pretty much the same fallrate as I do. neither one of us had to work very hard to keep up with the other. Since the Dutch CAA hasn't yet seriously tried to force Rotterdam into shutting down(contrary to our home DZ) Rotterdam can still go to 12k. Both Andrea and me kept looking at our altimeters frequently thinking 'Holy chips.. we can turn even MORE points?' Sad, in a funny kind of way.. AFF to "A" license... a little confusion

Hmm... if I got the coice between a brand, spanking new hyunday or a second-hand ferrari at the same price, I'd definitely go for the Ferrari. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom -
That's funny, I approached it from the other side - there's plenty of stuff that jumped but would have repacked if I was packing for someone else Been there done that. My f.. pre-second unsupervised packjob was when I was only a few months into the sport. It was also the f... pre-second time I'd ever seen a seven cell and no sooner had I pulled the container closed or a fellow student grabs it (as indicated by the I on duty) and proceeds to board the plane. I only resumed breathing as she opened. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

You should become a TI instead - I bet *all* your students would look relaxed on the video. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

I'm a research associate at Genmab (NL), which is a pharmaceutical company that develops antibodies to cure/slow down certain forms of cancer. I'm a very small cog in a huge machine, but somehow I find the job gives me a lot of satisfaction. Why? It's good for people of all experience levels to think about stuff - they may not have been there yet, but talking about it might help prepare them for when they will be. Sharing those thoughts (yes, yes, I know.. - see my sigline) will help guard people from a dangerous course of action: "I've never been in that situation, but if I had a lineover I would cut it away immediately." Possibly not the kind of advice that would apply to someone with 10K jumps, but for a student an excellent course of action. "...Is it square? No? -> reserve procedure immediately!" I don't want a person with only a couple of dozen of jumps to spend even a second thinking about hook knives, pulling risers or whatever. That stuff is for later in their career.

I think a lot of the financial crisis would magically disappear if people were to act sensibly and stop with all this mass-hysteria. As to the poll, Dutch DZs have other issues. Any other crisis pales in comparison. "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

Is a stiletto 150 right for me?
Baksteen replied to dldproductions's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've said this before, but also for the record: A landing on your feet isn't necessarily a 'good' landing. -
I totally respect your view. Yes you are absolutely right writing about me being to coward to try skydive is an good alternative I consider highly (I dont say this as a joke, cause there are many cowards out there just like me so it could be a fun song). But should that stop me from coming here and ask for your experience and what it feels like? and why should i write a song about sky divers being idiots?whats the truth in that? cheers, I commend you (OP) for the response you gave to the reaction I quoted. But no need to respect the writer. I certainly don't. Respect is only given to those who deserve it and always a two-way street. People who write responses like the one I quoted and you replied to are just looking to provoke. There's a word for people who write like that, it's "troll" - usually preceded by the F-word

Dropzone landing area info suggestion

Quote edited for more general context. Two words: "Precision strike". Blowing uop an entire appartment complex to get a terrorist who 'probably' is there... How is that different from a suicide bomber? At least a suicide bomber will not do it more than once. And why precision strikes? The gov't got snipers don't they? Risk to the troops? What about the intelligence operative who has to track the target's whereabouts? Me too. When I first learnt about the crusades in high school, I was very impressed with noble heroes such as Richard the Lion-Hearted... "That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport." ~mom

yeah well, I look at things from a western point of view. if some other culture sees these people as heros than it says more about them than about me... I added "western opinion" because we mean the same thing: - in my opnion not only because of innocent victims, but also because Joe Ignorant starts to associate ALL muslims with terrorists / a terrorism preaching god.
