  1. I'm sure you can think of something better to do with your chick than that... - for ideas, please see GFD's thread about people getting stressed on DZ.com.
  2. I really REALLY hope someone recorded that for when I get back - it sounds like a must to be played in the DZ canteen!! Vicky? anyone? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  3. Wings, containing Spectre and PDR. I went for the Wings primarily because it came articulated at such a great price, but I would not have gone for it if it did not have such a great reputation for both good quality and customer satisfaction. And I have to say that I have NO complaints !
  4. There is a lot of talk here about not bad mouthing DZs, which is a good thing, but also about being honest about them, which is also a good thing. Has anyone in this discussion looked in the dropzone reviews recently? There are a lot of people being pretty honest in there... and apparently without fear of 'reprisal'. Since those reviews exist, this thread does seem pretty futile. If acrojunky (sp?) wants to know which DZs to avoid, then check out their reviews... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  5. I use a Protrack to log my freefall time, so its kept up to date in my logbook pretty regularly. One good reason to log it is that freefall time is a pre-requisite for some ratings. Same detail - you need the times later... and filling in details from hundreds of jumps ago is a PITA!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  6. Its 800 jumps for the Tandem, not D licence, and I think 8 hours Freefall time as well. The AFFI is 1000 jumps and 10 hours. There are a lot of other jump number related bits and bobs as well - the rules are all in the BPA ops manual which your DZ will have (probably in the CCIs office) I would try and quote some figures but I don't want to get it wrong and make a twat of myself!! Ask the CCI when you are on a weather hold if you can borrow his ops manual for a couple of hours - it may sound geeky but there is lots of info in there and you have to 'be familiar' with it for your IC1 qualification anyway. And no IC1 = no 'B' licence...
  7. Haha! Busted!! Great job HH! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  8. Yeah baby, yeah!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  9. To crack one vertebra might be seen as unlucky... to crack two must simply be carelessness!! (freely adapted from Oscar Wilde) Seriously, I hope it is all getting better!
  10. Top advice above about waiting to buy any kit until you have complete the training. This will not only allow you to save money to complete the training but also you can get some really good advice from the instructors and experts while you are hanging out at the DZ about what to buy. There is a lot of different equipment out there which suits different types of people as well as different skill levels and it is best to get some good advice before you buy as a lot of this gear is pretty expensive... That said, have fun with AFF - difficult not to!!
  11. I heard that it was because Dubbya heard that Elvis had been kidnapped by the young Saddam Hussein and wasn't really dead at all. Apparently he had been hidden somewhere in the Iraqi desert and was only brought out on special days to sing for SH...
  12. Surely if you need to turn 270 to land into wind or whatever, you could achieve that by turning 90 the other way?! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  13. two words... 'A' and 'LOT'! I doubt that you will notice the grips very much - apart from the obvious point of being easier to take hold of, but the booties will rock your world. Others may disagree but I wouldn't even bother with the swoop cords just yet unless you have a major fast fall problem. The difference will be something like putting a turbo on your car. When I (very rarely) do FS without a jump suit I find moving around the sky SOOOO slow... Talk to your instructor before you jump and work with them on body position as smaller changes will make a lot more difference when wearing a suit with booties. That said, when you are used to them (which probably won't take long) you will find flying a lot easier...
  14. Hi Jayne! Welcome to the wonderful world of not getting any... work done! Look forward to meeting you (along with everyone else!) on 20 Jul in London. Frank. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  15. We had a competition while I was in training to pull a girl using the line (plummiest Colin Firth voice) "I say princess, you really are bang on!" while looking at her through the bottom of a pint beer glass. No-one succeeded but several guys got slapped. My favourite is: "Nice dress, think I can talk you out of it?" But the most successful has always been: "What would you like to drink?" after all, my sig line works for both sexes... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  16. Nope - not politically orientated. It was done to wrong foot the 'bad guys' and it has worked...so far. Today will tell. And for the record, I don't find any part of being mortared, rocketed or shot at daily 'funny'. I will just be frigging glad to be back on that aeroplane in 15 days and lose that twitchy feeling between my shoulder blades. Sorry. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  17. Agreed - he gambled, he lost.
  18. Is this so? Is this judged by the angle of 'elipticality' if I can use that made up word? Because the aspect ratios are very different. (2.14 / 2.68) Not picking holes - I really am curious!
  19. I think that you were VERY brave to get white leg straps in the first place!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  20. I am no expert on Al Quaeda but I am pretty sure that they want much more than that - probably something along the lines of the 'humbling and destruction of the Great Satan' Unfortunately I have a really slow connection here which precludes me from extensive googling but from the article you provided: All the quotes which do tie AQ together with SH were 'such and such a politician said' and 'from this newspaper' - bitter experience has led me to an utter lack of faith in both politicians and the media. I find it key here that intelligence sources refuse to go on the line and say that there was a connection. To this day I am not sure WHAT the reason was? And I am in the middle of it!! WMD? AQ? Regime change? who knows... What we really need is a strong leader who can pull the tribes and sects together, and is not afraid to use force to put down rebellions... where can we find one... Nothing about TWAT - the war against terrorism - is going to be easy or cheap! Agreed... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  21. Yep - I clicked on this assuming it was a 'Richard Gere' thread too... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  22. Well I am that 'rare' skydiver - I can never see through those things... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  23. I'm assuming that this is a 'smart' comment to imply that you believe this find proves he had WMD (after the UN resolution) and intended to use them... whereas if you READ what I wrote, then you will note that the warheads were a. Empty b. Scattered not stored All of which kind of erodes the idea that this is proof of intent. If he was hiding WMD like this then where is the content? Assuming rather a lot there - like that WMD ever will be uncovered in Iraq... after all, we have been searching for some time now... IF he had them then I reckon he shipped them to Syria a long time ago... And in answer to your first question, I am a suspicious bastard and I would wouldn't trust anyone holding a knife that close to me. Blood or no blood. Sorry. Says who? prove it. Funnily enough, lots of people assume this, but no-one has ever proven it. Given the ideological differences between SH and AQ (SH was a not particularly religious, sectarian leader and AQ is a strongly Islamic extremist organisation) it actually seems unlikely... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  24. We were too - there is a lot of pomp and circumstance lined up for the 30th!! But if it took us by surprise then it sure as sh*t has taken the insurgents by surprise too... now we just have to wait and see what their next move will be. It feels odd to be here as a 'guest of the Iraqi government' now, and not an occupying power any more... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
  25. Wow! I thought that this thread had died some time ago! Cool... Anyway, i have decided that my song for the summer when I get back my new song is going to be: "Let your love flow"... there's a reason for the sunshine sky there's a reason why I'm feelin' so high! Must be the season... Oh yeah baby - I'll be feelin' the love!! with a it of luck anyway... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.
