I didnt know that there WERE other days!! I thought that they were just figments of my imagination between jumps... nightmares brought on by too much beer! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Nethers in May gets my vote! Vicki Nethers in May is about the only time I am going to be anywhere near making it... being in Iraq at the moment, my R&R is about then and I will be spending all of it at Nethers. Incidentally, there are FS progression weeks 10-23 May so the middle weekend there should be quite lively... not that that coincides at all with when I will be there...! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

In one day? The trip above. Total? I drove alone from southern California to Rantoul, IL and back last summer - IIRC that was over 5000 miles total. Then I drove alone from southern California to Florida last September - IIRC that was around 4000 miles. Doing the CA-FL trip again - alone - in 10 more days. And I thought I had it hard doing 1600 miles in 23 hours! (from Athens to the south of Turkey the long way...) but then again I didnt have proper roads for a lot of it... (I think that there ARE only 2 roads in Turkey!!) Thank god for satellite navigation. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Camcorder format? does it matter any more?
damion75 replied to damion75's topic in Photography and Video
Unfortunately, with all my skills and good looks I probably won't be going to the World Meet and my guess is that for the majority of camera flyers, this is also true. I'm not sure I'd base my camera buying decisions on that. However, if I were going to the World Meet, I'd gladly buy a new camera just for that. Surely! I would have to be some kind of skygod to be worrying about that with my 200 jumps!! PAL is the European format isnt it? and NTSC the US version? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. -
Camcorder format? does it matter any more?

Looking to buy my first camera since I am in a position to get tax-free at the moment and I can't pass THAT up!! Pretty sure I want a PC-105 but having looked around on the net, they are about half the price on the US sites than on the UK sites... given that most videos / TVs etc are all dual format these days (PAL / NTSC) does it matter which country I buy from? Or do I once again have to pay the price of being British...!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus. -
Thanks for the advice - looks like everyone is talking Sony anyway! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

I think it was on the 2nd - it was the one supposed to be on 31 Dec that kept getting put back. Cool though - I never knew that it was impossible to whistle about about 17000 feet! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Calling all you camera flying dudes out there! I reckon it is time to get something small and expensive (!) strapped to the side of my helmet. At the moment I am looking at the PC105 because that is what my mate has and he likes it, but I thought I would get a second opinion... and hopefully a third, fourth, fifth etc! Also, whether you guys reckon it is worth shelling out for a moulded FFX type helmet or just as good to get a bracket bolted on? Anything wisdom you have to share really!!

No I definitely don't reccomend hooking up with one of her friends - revenge never works! Get out of it with good grace. Life has a funny way of working out and what goes around DEFINITELY comes around. She'll get whats coming... *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

All I can say chap is that if you are 27 and have only just had your heart broken then you are a lucky guy! As for getting over it? Hanging out with the guys, and making sure you are busy helps but yep, having a rebound shag and getting drunk also works a little!! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

I saw that on a T-Shirt once, but I bought the one which said, If you ARE living on the edge, it's probably cos you're too chicken to jump! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Could be! It was all a bit of a daze there, racing to pack and get on the next lift... wondering whether the hi-alti lift would actually happen today etc!! I was hanging out with flygurl a bit if that helps? *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Same reason props tend to pull an aircraft to the right or left as the accelerate for take off. Same reason a curve ball curves and a floater "floats" [sink less quickly]. That is "Magnus effect", and doesn't apply in this case, rotation is about a different axis. In case I can help with this one - it is to do with the spin of the shell in the tube, nothing to do with the spinning of the earth!! We compensate for this using firing tables calculated by very clever and boring guys in the artillery world firing over 25km... for rifles over 300/400m it really doesnt matter... As for the first question, I would be very surprised if it was anything to do with the Corialus effect which does not usually affect anything smaller than cloud formations (and no - according to the scholars of oxford it does not affect the way a sink drains!) As an instructor at the UK school of artillery I have covered all this in some depth! *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

Hi to one and all. New to the website although I've been jumping for a couple of years... just idle I guess! Anyway, having met a few of you in Eloy over the new year I reckoned it was time to log on. That and the fact that I am stuck in Iraq for the next six months with no planes and an internet terminal on my desk!! Ain't life a bitch!! I guess this is where I pay back for all those cheap jump tickets... So if you have any top jumps to talk about to remind me what I'm missing then I'd love to hear about it as I am missing the clear air up there mightily (not to mention my rig - pining for me back in the UK!) Frank. *************** Not one shred of evidence supports the theory that life is serious - look at the platypus.

If the wings of the plane ice up, then its time to stop walking long them! If you jump in UK then you can't get fussy about temperature - if it ain't raining, you just have to get out of the plane! I doubt that there is a drama - a few of us are planning to make some sort of Mexico Boogie next new year and that involves flying all the way from UK so it better be good!!
