Alright everyone lets just relax for a minute. Im not sure if some of you are just unaware of the realities of college sports, particularly football, but being an in your face, asshole, "look at me", diehard fan is what being a college football fan is all about. People have been saying on these forums for all 37 days that the Gators were matched up against the Bucks that we (YES I SAID WE!!!) were destined for horrible failure. My slightly drunken post was a response to all the doubters and people out there that I have argued tooth and nail with for over month in the Bonfire. I am a Florida Gator and will always say "WE" won the National Championship despite what anyone says. Although in hindsight I will admit that my tuition probably doesnt have any impact on the Team. However I have purchased game tickets and more merchandise then anyone should ever own so I have contributed. Its a shame that Boise State isnt gonna get at least a chance at the title. Their a really good team and defintely put on the best game that most of us college sports fans had ever seen. Its sad that their isnt a playoff and they wont get a chance to at least prove themselves. The SEC is the best conference in the United States, they have the most teams ranked in the top 25 and the reigning National Champion. The Big East had the most bowl wins this season but failed to have the true juggernaut teams that were good enough to be National Champs. The Big Ten's abysmal performance this Bowl Season will hopefully make all those people out there that say the Big Ten is faster or more physical than the SEC pipe down for once. The Big Ten brought their best team to Arizona and the SEC brought theirs. We all saw what happened, it was an annihilation. I actually disagree with that. The Buckeyes had hands down the best offense in the country this season. If Jim Tressel didnt have enough faith that his #1 ranked offense and Heisman winning quarterback could gain 1 yard then they had no business even playing in that game. Fact of the matter is...the Gators brought with them an intensity and fire that the Buckeyes lacked. Blame it on the 51 day break OSU had after the Michigan game if you will but what lost it for the Buckeyes was definitely not a lack of talent. Gators drink Gatorade.....Seminoles drink Seminal fluid. Since when do people have to have correct grammar in the Bonfire?? The position I play is devoted fan and the only reason I couldnt go to the Championship was because I couldnt afford it but me and all the other Gators were there in spirit. My tuition and fees have helped, in very small part, to build this football team. While I wasnt on the field last night, I am a Florida Gator (my acceptance letter told me so) and WE are the National Champions. That went out the window after me and every other Gator out there were told how badly we were gonna get anally raped by the unbeatable Ohio State University for 37 straight days. You should come out to the UF Falling Gators Collegiate boogie on the 12th-15th. Im sure there will be a AFF instructor there for you to jump with. It will be fun, plus you get to meet me! I will be at Palatka for the first time for the boogie too so I will get to jump at a new place, and in some cool planes. So he should just give up and not try to show his family the greatness of skydiving? Even If there is only a 20% chance that your family could be shown the truth then get them out to the dropzone anyway, its still better then alienating yourself from your loved ones by just giving up. Personally I think your family can come around. Mine was very skeptical and suspiscious about me skydiving. I took them out to the dropzone and it made them feel better, not 100% better, but still better. Andy908, I dont understand why you wouldnt even try to bring your parents around if/ when you were in this situation? Whats the point of blowing them off and being hostile with them when you can include them and make things easier on everyone? Its worth a shot. Why do they need to understand your point of view? They don't. The truth is: you still feel that you need them to understand your point of view. Actually what it really is, is that you want them to validate you, to say "it's ok that you do that". You may not realize it (yet), but that's really what's going on inside of your head. As long as you want (need) their "blessing", that gives them the ability to control you by depriving you of it for being a bad boy, or granting it to you for being a good boy. All people, if they are to truly grow up, need to get past the emotional baggage of that psychological threshhold with their parents. Once you realize that, and stop instinctively needing, and seeking, your parents' validation, it will be quite liberating, believe me. And, in the meantime, if it means doing your own activities, like skydiving, without your parents knowing about it (if you can manage that), then that's what you have to do. Your parents may view that as "sneaking around behind their backs", but so what? Being an adult means your parents no longer define you; you define yourself. Adults don't owe a duty to keep their lives an open book to anyone (except maybe their spouses), including their parents. When you're 39, your parents aren't going to know every damn thing you do; and by that time, that will be normal both to you and to them. If you're truly an adult, even a young one, there's no reason why that process can't begin now. I think we should give this guy some credit before we start making character judgements about approval and validation that he seems to desire from his parents. So what if he wants to convince his parents that skydiving is a very fufilling activity that he enjoys, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some of you guys that are jumping on him for being a pussy and not growing up, probably have forgotten something, he is in college but......HE STILL LIVES AT HOME WHEN NOT AT SCHOOL!!!!! What if you guys had a girlfriend that kept nagging you about jumping and wasting money/time at the dropzone???.......youd dump her in a second. Well, when your a 19 year old college student you cant dump your family, therefore it is perfectly alright to seek some sort of approval from them that way when you are home and not at school your life wont be a living hell of nagging and bickering about something you love. Dude, take your whole family as a group to the DZ one day, have a blast jumping/learning with them, and come back and tell us how much better they feel about the sport. Well, I started skydiving about 6 months ago. Ever since my first jump I have essentially become infatuated with this sport, and this damn website which I have been on way too much, and am looking forward to my future in skydiving. In the past month or so I have been home from the University of Florida on break and away from my home dropzone. Just before I left I earned my "A" license and since then I havent made any more jumps. However I have made progress in skydiving, in terms of gear anyway. Before I left for break I had a Pro-Tec helmet, a pair of shitty goggles, and an old Altimeter to my name. Since then I have done a lot of homework and research in order to find the most cost efficient and appropriate gear for me and my skill level. I got a used main/reserve/container from my AFF instructor for a sweet deal and cant wait to put some jumps on it. For Christmas my mom gave me a new pair of goggles, gloves, an audible altimeter(SOLO) and an Altitrack. About 2 weeks ago I started my search for a used Cypres to no avail. I then realized I could email a lot of the people who post complete rigs for sale and offer to buy the Cypres out of it. It worked and I found a used Cypres 1 with 7 years left that wasnt in need of service or batteries for 650 bucks, and the nice lady I bought it from lives in Florida so I got to buy it in person! At about the same time I started looking for a Cypres I also started to hunt for a jumpsuit. Im 6'3'' 220 pounds so finding one that fit wasnt easy but I combed the classifieds/posts and found one and it finally arrived today and it fit! I know finding gear is the easy part and getting good at flying is the real issue but Im really looking forward to what the future has to offer in terms of skydivng. In the short term I will be taking my new gear to Skydive Williston this weekend, where I learned to jump and have racked up a whopping 30 jumps, and will be hopefully improving my landings/flying. The weekend after that I will be attending the UF Falling Gators Collegiate Boogie at Skydive Palatka where I hope to do some serious jumping for 4 straight days! I have really only done coach jumps and solos to get my A license and havent been able to do the cool fun skydiving that all of you guys talk about everyday on these forums. I dont really know what to expect at the boogie but am hoping that I get on some fun skydives with some more experienced jumpers who can show me a thing or two (and who knows maybe even a three way!!!!). In the long term I hope to do as many jumps as I can afford as a broke college student. I also hope to go to the darkside and start freeflying in a 100 jumps or so that way i can be like all you cool kids in your videos on SDMovies.com. Im also kinda interested in this Dublin boogie Ive heard so much about and am thinking about going there to jump a lot during the day and break as many as the seven deadly sins as I can at night. Im really writing this just to say thank you to all you DZ.commers. You all have kept me occupied during my spare time with your consant arguing and crazy antics. Same thing happened to me when I got my first car. I saw an ad for a Ford Explorer (used) for 7600 when the car was really being sold for 9600. Typo saved me 2 g's since they had to honor the autotrader.com ad. Plus when we were looking at the car I found 200 bucks. It was like a sign or something to buy that car. (probably not a good choice of words) You should bring them out to a dropzone, it will show them really what skydiving is about and how technical/difficult it can be. EDITED TO ADD: I dont where you are paying 40 dollars for a jump! Unless its a coach jump or something tickets should only be around 22-23 bucks. Im a Gators Fan so I dont really like the Tigers at all but I love to see a Notre Dame ass whooping. Notre Dame is so overrated it is ludicrous. They get such a high ranking every year do to their previous successes and never can back up their rank against good teams. The 3 teams Notre Dame played this year that were actually any good (Michigan, USC, LSU) all blew em out. Every fuckin year theyget a major bowl birth because they can jack up ratings and it leaves out a good team that deserves the big time audience. Pisses me off. Point Break has skydiving in it but its not really a skydiving movie. I love it anyways...I have been watching it for years before I started jumping. Rent it if you want some good cheesy dialogue, decent action and a 4 minute freefall scene.
