Hey Michigan you did what UCLA couldnt...you lost to USC
jarrodh replied to jarrodh's topic in The Bonfire
Wow Michigan really proved to everyone they deserved to be in the National Championship....NOT! Will this now make all those Wolverines out there shut the fuck up about how the coaches screwed them....hopefully... but probably not. If Michigan really deserved to play for the national championship youd think they would have at least one there bowl game against a team ranked 5 spots lower then them right??? (Chad Henne FYI leading your team to a 2 touchdown loss does not make anyone believe you should have gone to Glendale...better luck next year) 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!! -
Okay, so the news agencies have their little boiler plate comments when it comes to skydiving...We can't have our own? ltdiver Hopefully it at least brought some more people out to do Tandems... 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

Even if I did a jump with you and saw you were spinning I wouldnt know how to correct it so online I cant give you any advice on flying. HOWEVER! I did notice you said I wouldnt consider myself an afficionado in any field of skydiving but I have essentially memorized the Integrated Student Program in the SIM and it states... **Priorities are in the following order of importance (top down): (1) Pull. (2) Pull at the correct altitude. (3) Pull while stable. My only advice to you as a fellow beginner is if you find yourself at pull time even if your in a wicked turn you gotta pull. The SIM states that your stability (while still important) is way less important then if you pull at the right altitude. Even if you build in extra time to correct your spin you may one day lose altitude awareness and be lower then you think and waiting to re-stabilize before you pull could be big time trouble. Im not saying you would sacrifice your safety for stability but Im just letting you know what the SIM has to say about pull time instability. Like you said above me everyone struggles with something "easy" at first, mine is landing...so there you go. Hope this is useful. PEACE! **This is a direct quote from the SIM 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

Right, then do not jump at our DZ Usually tandems get out at 9k so all 12k jumpers are sitting behind them until then. If the tandems go to the same altitude as the rest, any AFF/wingsuiters are still behind them. When they say Cessna, they do not mean Caravans .. I realise that but I still think it was a fairly stupid post At my DZ Tandems always exit last out of the 182. Our plane only goes to about 10.5-11 thousand and we all get out at the same height. I was taught not to and still do not plan on being behind any Tandems on a Cessna...ever. The most safe situation concerning exit order puts Tandems out last. I dont find any stupidity in that. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

So where can I get one? Ive looked in the Classifieds on this site and all they have are Cypres Parts, other brand AAD's for sale and Wanted Ad's for Cypres 2's. I read all the time about jumpers buying used Cypres's on these forums... so where do they get them? Are there any Cypres 2's out their for sale that are used? 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

How do I get over being afraid to jump my own pack job?
jarrodh replied to dweeb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had the same issue when I was packing my rig at the end of the day a couple times. Everyone was sitting around in the hangar chilling and I was packing my student rig in front of like 5 people, 3 of which were extremely experienced and who I could feel dissecting every fold and stow I made on that pack job in their heads. Dont get me wrong, if they saw a problem I made I would surely want their opinion but most of them were just chiming in and not really adding anything constructive. To answer your original question though the best way to get over that fear is to just jump. Believe me I had similar issues 2 months ago. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!! -
I got a few 120+ tshirts, a new pair of goggles, gloves(for jumping), a SOLO, and an Altitrack. I got other stuff also but this is the skydiving stuff I got. Christmas is awesome. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

I jumped a Manta 288 as my first student canopy at my DZ and it had all of the characteristics you described. It was a great safe canopy that was huge but docile. I cant remember if it was ZP or f111 or a hybrid though. Nice Review. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

Im in no position to give gear advice really with the limited experience I have in this sport but I did a lot of research before I bought my Vector II rig so I think i can give you some tips. Ive found that you probably shouldnt buy that container (V2) for anything more than a couple hundred bucks since you cant really resell it since its not new and really isnt freefly friendly. And this is all for the Vector II which is a significantly more modern rig in terms of pin protection and reserve spring quality then the Vector I, so I probably wouldnt get the set up your looking at. My advice to you would be to at the oldest get a Vector II which I think for a broke college student like myself is a fine rig if well maintained and used properly. i dont think youll find anyone willing to buy a Vector I. There just to old and for the same low price you can get something like a Vector II or an old Javelin which is much more current in its build and safety standards. When it comes to your canopy you probably want to buy a canopy with a ZP(zero porosity=lets no air through it) fabric. If you cant afford a ZP main you can get an f111 (has porosity=lets air through it) canopy with no more than 500 jumps on it since after that it will lose its flare power and wont be as responsive. Theres nothing wrong with an f111 main ,which im assuming the falcon 215 is, that is well maintained with not tons of jumps on it. Getting an f111 main is another way to cut costs on your first rig but if you have the money (which I didnt) you should get ZP. It will last longer and have more of an effective flare. As for the reserve I cant really give any tips since I dont know much about them but I assume if its never been jumped and is in good shape (approved by rigger) than ya it can be purchased. But if you do get the Vector I (which probably isnt your best choice for the money) then make sure the spring has been updated/replaced since they apparently weakened over time. How much were you gonna buy all this for??? If you are looking for a good first rig there are plenty of Vector II's, old Javelins, and other used but perfectly airworthy gear in the Classifieds on this site. Good Luck and remember that it is OK to rent gear for a while before you get your first rig so you can assure you are getting a good deal on a rig that is one safe and two comfortable/attractive. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

Couture wants to come out of retirement to fight Tito again
jarrodh replied to GQ_jumper's topic in The Bonfire
that would be such a bad idea. he'd get crushed. I hate Tito, but Couture would get embarassed just like Shamrock. Hes to old and slow for Ortiz who is at the top of his game and wll be riding a big wave of momentum if he beats the Iceman(which I hope and dont think will happen). 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!! -

All hail the AAD!! Glad to hear everyone was OK. To me this is justification enough to why AAD's should be worn by all. That guy would be dead without it. That was a close one. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

Oddly enough my family is very supportive of me skydiving and I two have asked for some skydiving gizmos for christmas while im home for winter break. Im sorry to hear that your mom is unwilling to listen to your explanations about the safety devices and strategies used to keep jumpers safe. You should take her to the DZ to sit in on your S/L training/jump and she will see what lengths skydivers go through to protect themselves and others. Let her look through the SIM and read other safety articles and explain to her about the low amount of fatalities every year and how many of those are caused by intentional hook turns under perfectly fine parachutes. Also explain to her about an AAD, RSL, Reserve Parachutes and the different ratings and licenses associated with skydiving. If after all of this she still cant stand the thought of you skydiving then theres no hope for her ever understanding the calculated risk and immense reward that skydiving brings to us all. I think your best bet is for her to go to the dropzone with you and watch you land and be around the other jumpers at your DZ. She will then see how most if not all DZ's have safety as the number one priority. 2 BITS....4 BITS....6 BITS....A DOLLAR!....ALL FOR THE GATORS....STAND UP AND HOLLER!!!!

No I did not mean that I would shove a tandem student out the door to his death if the shit was hitting the fan just so I could get out. What I meant was that if the door was open and I was instructed to leave then i would surely find a way out of that door by crawling over, under, or around that person without endangering them to greatly . If it was clear I wasnt gonna be able to get out since there are Tandems in the way and the pilot had already exited and wasnt even trying to land it then I would start kicking out windows and panels of the plane so I could find another way out. I dont plan on being behind any Tandems on a Cessna...ever, and I think most DZ's make Tandems exit last anyway for many reasons one of which is so they dont trap other jumpers in a plane during an emergency. The main point of my creating this thread was not to address the situation of what I would do if I was stuck behind some Tandems on a plane that was going down. It was to hear from TM's out there about how theyd handle being with an unhooked student on a plane that wasnt safe to land. Thanks for the responses so far though, they have answered my question.
