  1. 0:0:0 One champagne laden flight to Toronto for Canadian thanksgiving, a few hours at the airport nudie bar waiting for my brother, a handfull of family dinners... one ford mustang ripped apart on saturday, a second one assembled on sunday. Three nights of complete drunkeness in Toronto. I EVEN went bowling!?!?!?! No jumps, no nookie, no firsts - and a completely AWESOME weekend so far. The best part is that I'm not expected back at work until Wedesday. YeeHaw! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. I will confirm nor deny nothing, but that cushman belonged to a group at Chicagloand Skydiving. I'm SURE they'd never get naked in public... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  4. Yes, it's a dumb idea. Unless you can explain why you shouldn't have one, you should. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. Me? Arrogant? I've NEVER been accused of that! I'm the first to admit - the fact that I feel comfortable doing it has NO bearing on wether I SHOULD be doing it... Seriously though, I do supose that when Roger Ponce shows up at Chicagoland it's a bit different then when he shows up at Eloy... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Fortunately, all the really embarasing stuff has long expired from google. I've been on the 'net since the early 90's, so there's been a lot of stuff out there over the years. There's REAL good stuff in groups.google.com, but I'm safe cause you have to search on my old email addresses, which nobody knows. The olderst post I could find was from '94, and was asking for help with Corel Draw on OS/2. Anybody remember when OS/2 wasn't coaster-ware? _Am _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. If you read the (now outdated) list of Cypres saves at http://www.pia.com/SSK/cypres/saves02b.htm, you'll see a very large number of "no pulls" are brain-locks. Most? I doubt it, but we don't have fatalities info for the same years that we have cypres info. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. A 'd' licence used to be called a "Master" licence. It currently is the highest licence the USPA has. I just got my 'd', I've got 400 jumps. I waited until I could nail accuracy under a high performance canopy, and could fly with varying degrees of talent in any position. I've done 40 way RW jumps, 12 way freefly jumps, lots of high altitude jumps, lots of low altitude jumps. I can hit a 2 meter target under a Stiletto loaded at 1.6. I feel just as comfortable walking onto a Roger Ponce big-way as I do taking someone out who's just off student status. I'm not trying to blow my own horn - I'm trying to explain why I waited until I had twice as many jumps as was required. Having a 'd' licence is meaningless if people think you suck. Don't rush, take your time, and get it when you think you've earned it. To answer your question, of 400 jumps I have maybe 40 hop and pops. They're fun on their own right, make canopy practice cheap, and are a good solution for low clouds. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Probably not. There's a reason that the USPA mandates RSL's on all student rigs. They save lives. The decision to remove an RSL is a very personal one, one that should only be made by those with sufficient experience to make the decision themselves. This isn't a case of "ask your instructor, do what (s)he says" - it's a case of "ask all the people you can, then use YOUR judgement, based on YOUR experiences". New jumpers are more likely to screw up their emergency procedures, and less likely to have the knowledge necesary to decide to remove one. I'd be very surprised if you could find me any instructor, DZO, or USPA official in the US that would recomend someone with 30 jumps not have one. Debates over removing RSL's for experienced jumpers are complex, and offer many issues to ponder. However, having them for new jumpers is a no-brainer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. Can anyone recomend a good, cheap, small sewing machine? I'm not looking for bar-tacks, but something I can use on jump-suit repairs, making new helmet straps, etc? Strong enough to be able to penetrate type 8 webbing would be cool... I'm not looking for the 100 year old "I'll sew anything" Singer that full time riggers use, but something that's lightweight, portable, innexpensive, strong motor - but not necesarily industrial strength. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. I support my DZ more then enough in the summer, thank you very much! I buy mine at my local Radio Shack. Strangely, every time I move the local store has carried them.. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. Always. I'm too lazy to pack, and it's not packers job to straighten my break lines. I still make sure to straighten my break lines every few weeks, but I do always stow my toggles in the landing area. I open up my slider at the same time - again, not the packers job. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Put me down for a question mark. It'll depend on finances. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. You didn't say if it was the main or reserve. If its the reserve, I'd guess it was caused by a misplaced "Powertool". Packers frequntly tuck the bar of the tool under the reserve flaps to hold it while they place the bag in the container. A packer could've inadvertently poked a hole in the pilot chute. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Yeah.... Clay sometimes forgets that even though he chows every time he "swoops" the pond, that doesn't mean everyone does... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  17. I wanted to post a link to the review of the Canon 1D 11 megapixel body. They're only just hitting the market, and appear to be overpriced - currently at $8000, but expected to retail for $5000ish. What's really interesting is that the review is co-authored by a guy named Thomas Knoll. This is key because Thomas is a very well respected expert in digital imagine - in fact, he was largely responsible for creating Photoshop. The other key factor is that this appears to be the first digital camera with a HIGHER resolution then 35mm. 18. there appears to be some kind of teather attache to the remote... but still. anyone actually used one? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. I'd love to hear from someone who's actually used one. Looking at the remote I worry about hitting the wrong button in freefall, turning off my video camera instead of taking a still... Or am I misunderstanding? Is the still camera feature just an indication of when you took a picture (say, with a bite switch), or is it itself a remote shutter release...? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    my best joke

Two hunters are in the woods. One gets accidentally shot, aparently fatal. The other frantically calls for help on his cellphone. "I think I've killed my friend! What should I do?" he asks. The emergency operator responds - "we need to make sure that he's actually dead." silence. the sound of a gunshot. the guy comes back on "ok, now what?" _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. He really is an ass. At least he posted SSK's email, which clearly states the devices aren't fit to be used. As far as I'm concerned, he's a moron, but he's satisfied any ethical requirements here. The buyers know what they're getting. That said, I wonder what the FAA would have to say about any of these devices ever being used. Considering that they've fined riggers for allowing out of date cypres's to be used... is there a risk to riggers of these being used in the US? I suspect there is... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  25. !!:3:2 WAY too many numbers in the first column. It's been a good week. 3 jumps. Saturday was very disapointing. The local DZ was hosting the mid-west skydiving league, and was only flying an otter. Things quickly got backed up, my first jump was 45 minutes after manifesting, my second jump was 90 minutes after manifesting. With three hours of sunset left, all loads were full... Sunday saw crappy weather, but we did get one load off at 8:00am. First were for 1) first flamingo jump. See related thread. 2) completed and faxed 'd' licence application. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
