I donated to the www.aclu.org. Did you? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I good pilot-chute puts upwards of 75 pounds of force on the closing pin. Is your pilot-chute in good shape? Also, is your closing pin free of any knicks or scratches that might cause it to hang up? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Just so I understand... A leaking colostomy bag is funny, but a convertible chasing a cow hanging from a balloon isn't? When I watched Rat Race, I hadn't laughed that loud since South Park, which I hadn't laughed that hard since Basketball. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Well, lets see. Al Qaeda wouldn't exist, Iraq would've long ago been wiped out by Iran, Saudi Arabia probably wouldn't be creating terrorists, and the greater part of the world wouldn't hate the US. Palestinians would've made peace with Isreal long ago. Oh yeah, the WTC would probably still be standing. The benefit of the interventionalist US foreign policy since WWII is debatable at best. I find it fundamentally wrong that while europeans can barely afford to put gas in their volkswagons, americans seem to think it's a crime to have to pay 1.29/gallon to fill their suburbans. America is not threatened by Iraq. No matter how many nuclear or biological weapons Sadam makes, he's at least 20 years from being able to put them into the US. This even assumes he WANTS to put them in the US. Before US attacked in 90 Sadam considered the US an ally. Before he invated Kuwait, he was not even on the US's radar screen. Iraq is a threat to Iran, Kuwait, Jordan, and Isreal - None of which are Nato members. The ONLY reason the US got involved with iraq is they saw its expansion into kuwait as a thread to the oil industry. It WAS a threat to the oil industry. The oil fires left in the wake of the war is testment to that. The Gulf war was about oil. Even if you read the "official line", it was about "protecting US interests". What interests, besides oil does the US have in the gulf? The current Iraq issues is STILL about oil. It's about protecting OPEC countries who aren't in NATO. The US is obligated to be involved in the protection of Nato countries. They are not obligated to protect OPEC countries. Iraq being about oil is not neccesarily a bad thing. We just need to be honest about what it is. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Nope! Seems to me like you're trying to win a popularity contest instead... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Yeah, I had to throttle the connection. I'd like to be able to throttle it with a single big number for the whole FTP site, that would mean that if there's two users on it'd still be real quick... but for complicated reasons I can't do that right now. I had to throttle it per user. I will consider bumping it up a bit... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Right... but many of us are seriously loading our reserves, sometimes in excess of 1.5. If you're going to jump f-111 at 1.5 it has to be close to zero-p. While I'm willing to land a new reserve at 1.5, I'm not willing to land an old one. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Digital 8 is old stuff, mini dv is new stuff. there's no need to buy both. Digital 8 is DV when it is recorded on tape, just a different size tape (8 mm vs Mini DV size). The tape is just a recording medium. It itself does not affect the quality of the video in either way. Just as the DV tape is smaller, the recording mechanism in the camera is also smaller. This, I think - is the most compelling argument for mini-dv over digital-9 - the cameras are a LOT smaller. There are no digital-8 cameras in the vertical form factor like the PC120 or PC101. MiniDv cameras tend to be more expensive, tend to have a lot more features. You can't get professional quality lenses (carl zeiss) on the digital-8's, but can on the mini-dv's - for example. Mini-dv is slowly replacing digital-8 in the marketplace. Depending on how long you expect to keep it, there will come a time when you won't be able to buy digital-8 tapes anymore. Mini-dv will have a longer lifetime. That said, if you're going to be skydiving with it... it won't last long enough for that to be an issue anyways. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Do you mean literally or figuratively...? The heatwave is manufactured by PISA in South Africa using Gelvenor zero-p fabric. It was introduced after the Stiletto and was designed to compete with it in the high performance market. When I last jumped one, I found it to turn much faster then my stiletto, would dive quicker, and had a comparable flare and similar recovery arc. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The culprit in this debate is USUALLY skydive chicago, but they jump sabre 2's, used to jump safires, before safires they jumped normal sabre's. the stories that they put students under stilettos are largely false. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

An easy way of doing it is to plug the VHS into your camcorder, then firewire the camcorder to your laptop. You could then use Premiere, or MovieMaker, or pretty much anything to save it as an AVI file. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Good advice, accept for (3). You'll notice that as you move around the country to different DZ's, that there really are only two different kinds of dropzones. Those that are PD snobs, and those that are not. Dropzones being PD snobs is usually associated with being sponsored by PD. PD makes some very fine canopies, I jump one myself - but to assume they're the best just because your particular DZ is a PD snob-joint, is naieve. I would replace (3) with "Make sure you demo the canopy before you buy it, jump it in low or no winds, and only buy it if you feel comfortable." _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

What dropzones would that be? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

If you search the forums, you'll find some good discussions about this. If I remember Correctly, Bill Booth finally chimed in and strongly recomended that if you're going to do this, don't use the yellow cuttaway cable, you should use a black teflon cable. Ah, here it is: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=37598 also, read this: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=113117 - Bill Booth's comments in this thread. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Careful with that... I hurt my other ankle at Rantoul playing that game. Damn that hurt! If you're going to jump, resist the urge to jump your normal gear. Keep jumping the big-assed stuff. Beg, borrow, or steal but keep it at 1:1. The funny part is that even when I had TWO fucked up ankles I kept jumping.... but at least was jumping a big-assed specter 210... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I also started taking a multi-vitamin when I hurt my ankle. Not for any particular reason, but I figured it couldn't hurt. I figured there was more then just calcium to strong bones. I've kept with the multi-vitamin after healing, too. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
