  1. I speak english natively. My french is pretty bad right now because I haven't used it in a few years, but the last time I was in europe I found I could speak without an accent after about 3 days. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

    I am happy.

This thread brought back some memories.... Why so happy? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Yup, drilled a hole in my pc120 last night. Drilling holes in $2000 hadware is not something I'm entirely comfortable with.... but cool! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. The only thing this shows is that it is possible while on the ground to intentionally wiggle your body in a way that results in the rig coming off. This is a LONG way from saying you can fall out of your rig. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. Is the paper-reinforcer good enough, or did you go for something more elaborate? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Why are you not on the ballot? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. BUMP! I'm wondering the same thing. I don't really like the idea of putting a paperclip so close to my eye. I'm wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on how to reinforce indicator light on a cam eye ii? See attached: __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. I think he mentioned "money to burn...." Damn those things are expensive! _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. from their website: Jump Shack "This True Elliptical canopy has 128 Square Feet on an aspect ratio of 2.65 to 1. It features a Zero Porsity top skin and an F-111 bottom skin. It is intended for use by highly experienced Skydivers who are looking for a high performance Canopy". Interestingly, it also says : "Manufacturer Parachute Labs., Inc. " Who's Parachute labs., Inc.? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. Remember that most wear to F-111 canopies happens during packing, specifically the part where you lie down on top of it to squeeze the air out, massaging it into the cigar shape. This isn't an issue because you would be in contact with only the top-skin, the f-111 fabric is safely hidden underneath the z-po stuff. New f-111 fabric is nearly z-po, it only gaines permability as it ages. If you could stop the f-111 fabric from wearing, it'd have identical flight characteristics to a z-po one. Having only f-111 on the bottom skin approaches stopping the wear. PD has been selling the Sillouette for years as a z-po f-111 hybrid. You don't hear many people complaining about the f-111 bottom skin deteriorating. That said... while I don't think there's a lot of disadvantages to a hybrid design... I wonder if there are any advantages? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I think one point that has been missed is that you really need to get to the point where saving your life is second nature - instinctual. What do I mean by this? For example, you need to recognize pulltime instinctively, because you generally won't be looking at an altimeter, and audibles can fail without warning. You need to be able to judge altitude without the aid of any external devices. Also, for example - If you're flying above a formation and see a pilot chute come loose, you need to be able to fly your body out of the path of the deploying canopy ON INSTINCT. If you need to pause even for a second and consider options about what to do... you're eating nylon. Reactions to non-standard situations need to be decisive, and quick - second nature. This is a level of confidence that can be acheived only through training AND experience. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Funny. I didn't really notice a difference in speed as much as I did notice a significant increase in the distance I covered as I cartwheeled through the landing area... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Nothing. WHen I broke my ankle running, I told them because I knew they'd see me hobbling around, and would assume it was skydiving if I didn't tell them. When I broke my other ankle trying to be gentle to the first one I broke, I didn't - because I did it skydiving, and the previously "bad" one was good enough so that someone who didn't know wouldn't notice it. The only fatalities I've been on the same property as are the two at Rantoul and the one at Quincy last year. I've been fortunate that I've avoided most. Since I haven't been that close to one, I haven't been strongly affected by one. I haven't chosen to share the details of any with anyone. I don't lie when people ask... I just don't offer otherwise. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. That's odd. I don't get the advanced editor in IE6 under XP. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I've been known to jump in deep snow. When it's below freezing at ground level, trust me - it's DAMN cold at altitude. I wear a normal pair of ski gloves. Specifically, a pair made by Kombi, which were a hold-over from my racing days. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. The good ones won't. And if yours does, it's a pretty good sign it's not a 'good one'. Two Chicago area DZ's actually send their pilots for flight simulator time in Toronto. Do you have any idea how expensive that is? (hint:www.cae.com) Aerohio, where I spent a year, I'd be very surprised if they objected. Partly because they lost a pilot last winter to his own poor decisions, Tim and Sherry also have a reputation for running a profesional DZ. It's not just the big DZ's that would support this, either. When I started jumping in upstate NY, the DZ would try their best to bring in aircraft from the above-mentioned Chicago area DZ's, or Aerohio. Failing that, they'd fly their 182 with the same grey-haired jump-pilot who'd been flying jumpers since the early 1960's. They had other comercialy rated pilots who could fly, they just wouldn't let them. What am I saying? Wether small, medium, or large - through mostly luck I've never made home a DZ that takes their pilot training and certification lightly. While I won't speak for them, I would be very surprised if any of these DZ's objected to tighter licencing for jump pilots, it'd just make their jobs easier. Their are dropzones out there who take the safety of their planes and pilots very seriously. If you're not at one, you might wonder what makes your DZ any different? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Big hugs from the president of your fan club. You've been there for me so many times, I can't express how highly I think of you. You are my rock. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. I was home for Canadian turkey-fest last weekend, and informed the parentals I wouldn't be home for christmas. It didn't go over very well. However, I will commit to being there at least for part of it. Wether I'm there before or after christmas remains to be seen. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  23. I'll be doing beach jumps in a few weeks, I need water gear. What's available? What's good? What's popular? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. Sounds just about perfect to me. I have a J-3 with a slightly older Tempo 210 - packs WAY tight, and is way over PD's recomendation. Older Tempos aparently pack smaller then current ones. I also have a Stileto 150, which fits just a bit loosely. The Vengence is going to pack larger then the Stileto, so you should be fine. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. I've gone a couple of monthes now keeping my drug use to the legal ones, and this is the first time I've done this pretty much since my high school years. While not as pervasive as beer, weed is certainly prevalent at every DZ I've been to. I've adapted by finding better things to do then hang around the fire until sunrise... That's helped one of my 'weekend numbers' significantly. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
