Head mounted pro-tracks, whether inside or outside, tend to give relatively accurate aggregate numbers for the jump. E.g. the top, bottom, and full dive average are pretty accurate. However, specific speed indications are very sensitive to head movements. Looking down, then to the left, then to the right will significantly alter the units percepetion of speed. This means two things: 1) the max speed will be completely irrelevant. 2) if you were to graph the full dive in Jump-Track, you'll see wildly differing speeds throughout your skydive. In the first attached jpg (pro-track.jpg), the variations throughout the jump are indications of head movement, rather then speed changes. In the second attached jpg (pro-track2.jpg), my head was mostly stationary as I was flying camera. There are significantly fewer variations in the indicated speed, and the variations are much smaller. In this case, they probably do represent actual changes in speed. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I think you'll find a great many people use TRV cameras just fine. You just can't match the features of a high end TRV camera in a PC form factor. In freeflying, PC's are more common, but in people doing video for money, the TRV is nearly standard. Have you ever seen the output on a VX-2000? Gorgeous. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Flat turns, flat turns, flat turns. First up high, but then down low. You need to be able to do flat turns at very low altitudes. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

My Kenko .5 does have threads for a filter. A quick look through bhphotovideo.com shows 3 different .5's in the same thread size. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Plus, I figure once the waranty has expired, and my external disk is WAY too small, opening it up and replacing the disk should be relatively straight forward. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Ask Kathy about the Brazilian buffet we went to when I was in town. If you want meat, they've got more then you'll ever be able to eat... Glorious gluttony, I tell ya.... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Did you consider getting the 5000DV - the one they market specifically for video? It's the one I got, but I just assumed the extra speed is necesary... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

yeah, the sony .6 is dimentionally wider (aka, larger) then the kenko .5 I don't know nearly enough about optics to say much more... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

The temperature at altitude seems to stabilize at 'Damn Cold' from roughly November through April in Illinois. I Think 'Damn cold' is somewhere between -30 and -40 degrees C. On that basis, once the cold weather rolls around I don't care so much about the ground temperatures. I dress for the temperatures at Altitude, and assume I'll spend the plane ride in the back of the otter with a poorly sealed door. I don't think there's MUCH difference between jumping in late november, and jumping in late January. The temperatures at altitude are roughly the same. What do I wear? T-shirt, covered by turtle neck, covered by wool sweater, covered by fleece sweater, covered by jumpsuit. On the bottom, underwear, fleece pants, jeans, jumpsuit. It makes me look kinda like the kid in 'A Christmas Story'. I don't find that it hinders my range, much. I can still get big, I can still get small. Neck covered, full-face helmet. Good, winter gloves. Either ski gloves, or lighter windproof thermal gloves picked up at a hiking store. I can't stand wearing latex gloves, they just trap the moisture which for me seems to make things worse. Landing in snow is fun. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

My problem, quite simply, is that I don't like dead skydivers. I'm not going to help you, nor encourage you to do something that I think is incredibly foolish. Not only will I not help you, I'll tell you that what you're doing is (in my opinion), a VERY BAD CHOICE. It's certainly not the case that you're going to kill yourself the minute you put a camera on, I'm not saying that. There are a few camera flyers (some very good) that started with few jumps. However, none of them say that it was a good idea. When I had 70 jumps, I thought I was pretty good. And, if I can blow my own horn, I WAS pretty good. Hell, I did my first 18 way RW jump when I had 82 jumps. I was cocky, and confident - and to some degree, it was appropriate. People told me, I WAS that good. Probably just like you. Does that mean that any super 70 jump wonder, the guy who after every jump people run up to him and say "You are SO GOOD! Are you SURE you have only 70 jumps?" - that guy - does he have nearly the skills required to keep himself alive when he's got a camera on his head and something goes wrong? Hell no. He's just now learning the skills to keep himself alive on a relatively basic skydive, never mind one where he's flying camera. Am I being elitist? No. I don't think so. If you search back through these forums, you'll see many examples of me and others answering questions from people just like you - with one exception. Most 70 jump wonders who post here asking about camera flying phrase it in the future - something that they want to do eventually. You started off by stating, matter of factly, that you are GOING to start flying camera. RIGHT NOW. That is something that I will not help you do. It is something that I will discourage you from doing, strongly. Others may choose to help you. I won't. There are people here who will disagree with the tone of my post. That's fine, this is not a popularity contest. It is not my intention to sound like an asshole, but if telling you this makes me one, so be it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Not significantly. LtDivers TRV-8 is obviously horizontal while my pc-120 was vertical.... The TRV-8 might be longer, but it's shorter, too. Anyways, I think the comparison was valid because without any wide angle, with both cameras zoomed all the way out, they showed the same picture. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I bought a maxtor 80 GB @ 7,500 RPM. It was branded as the Personal Storage 5000DV. The DV signified a faster disk, mine spins at 7500 RPM while others spin at a slower 5,000 RPM. While I've never used one of the slower ones, I wouldn't think they'd be a good idea. The 5000DV works great for me. It is easily able to keep up with the DV output from my Camera, even when they're sharing the same firewire port. Coupled with my laptop and a PC-Card firewire port, it makes a half decent 'on the road' editing station. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Unless your dz.com profile is wickedly out of date, and you have significantly more then 70 junps, I would not even consider jumping with a camera, or any camera related accesories, for a good long time. The fact that you need to ask what the dangers are, is a good indication that you aren't ready for them. I'm not trying to be an asshole, just honest. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

A word about the Kenko .5's. Quade, LtDiver, and myself did an experiment a few weeks ago. We compared LtDivers Sony .6 with my Kenko .5 LtDiver's Sony .6 was in fact considerably wider then my Kenko .5. The difference in lens was unrelated to the cameras - we tried both lenses on both cameras. I had a PC-120, I forget what LtDivers was. Without lenses, both cameras showed the same image. The difference was considerable. At a range of roughly 10 feet, LtDivers .6 gave an image a good 3 feet wider then my Kenko .5 Conclusion: Either the Sony .6 is particularly wide, or the Kenko .5 is not. More testing required. There's a whole lot more to lenses then the stated ".number". _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Their record on first AFF jump students is very good, infact. This is largely related to the manditory tandem beforehand, which seves two purposes. One, it reduces the amound of sensory overload - they know what to expect. Two, it gives the TM instructor an indication of how likely the student is to 'brain lock'. Secondly, their good first AFF jump safety record is clearly related to the extensive canopy training they give beforehand. I hope more DZ's do this kind of training. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

That is not at all consistent with my experience with L&B. Unless something has changed drastically there, I would assume the best - that the email got lost somehow. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

Really? I haven't seen anything resembling ramdrive functionality since DOS (aka win31, 98). I've never seen this in windows, even did a search on support.microsoft.com, and didn't see anything. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

I have seen many students jump 280 square foot mantas at 1:1. I'm not an instructor, so I won't comment if it's good or not, just that it is not a rare event. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
