  1. Thanks everyone, been very informative. These things are never good, but we actually are viewing it mostly in a positive light. He's been going downhill for years and has refused any medical help, we're all glad to see he finally is getting the attention he so clearly has needed. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. A quick search of monster showed a good number of opportunities in Chicago. Have you had no luck with them? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. When a websites broken there's not a hell of a lot you can do to fix it. Pick up the phone, or send them an email. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. Yeah, saw that. I also browsed www.americanheart.org. I only saw high level symptoms, and the articles didn't tend to go into specifics about severity related to heart rate. I imagine it's not good, but am wondering how bad...? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. Anyone know anything about it? My boss for years has been in absolutely terrible shape. For the two and a half years I've known him, he's suffered shortness of breath, inability to perform basic movements, and exerted himself doing the simplest of tasks. He's never been able to stand up from a chair withouth leaning heavily on the arm wrests, for example. After putting up with these symptoms for literally years, today he finally goes to see his doctor, who instantly calls an ambulance and sends him to the ER. One of my friends who's sitting with him now, reports his resting heart rate has been consistently at 180 ever since they arived at the hospital - a good 3 hours ago. I don't know any other specifics other then the heart rate number - and to me, that sounds ludicrously high, and suggests a very serious stage of heart disease. Anyone know anything about this? Is a heart rate this high associated with only very serious cases, or is this a symptom of earlier forms of the disease? I know that anxiety can push up the heart rate, but for this long...? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. People get paid for that...? I thought it was just fun. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. Try www.unidiscountfilm.com. 12 shot rolls as low as $1.19, cheaper in bulk. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. It took me 4 monthes to get my Merlin camera suit. I was very anxious, and disapointed in the long delays. I did finally get it, and love it... So I guess it all came out well. Still, I don't understand how it can take 4 monthes to make a camera suit. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. You need a 'none of the above' or 'anything by Sony' choice. I wouldn't buy any of those. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  12. For me, the part that nearly made me hurl, was the al-qaeda speach. 3 drinks per sentence, IIRC - which I probably don't. Did anyone catch the exact pronounciation of the word that sounded somthing like 'botuslim'? What was that word, and is it in a dictionary? Was this a Bushism, or was I too drunk. BTW - I drank on it anyways. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. I'm new, I don't notice these things. Paul, out of curiosity, when I was down, did you notice the relative size of my wings?

  15. I agree that big puffy mitts aren't the definitive answer. This is why I mentioned the thiner, lighter ones frequently worn by cross country skiiers. I use a pair I picked up at a hiking and winter camping store. Or, for example look at the lighter winter gloves worn by decathelets. (you know, skiing, shooting -the winter sport?) Yes, I'm also talking about people up north, jumping in conditions that approach -40, where the danger from frost-bite in freefall counters the danger of less dexterity. There is a solution out there, we just need to find it. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Arthur, Next time you're out at Perris, be sure to talk to Jack about Shannon Embry passing away during Jump for the Cause. The last speculation I heard was that she had a similar condition, which resulted in a broken neck during a hard opening. You might be at risk for this yourself. It would also be smart to discuss this incident with your doctors. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. I don't mean this specific to you, I'm just following up to your post as convenience. I think the biggest problem with skydivers jumping in the cold, is that we haven't learned how to prepare. Skiiers understand, that if you're going to be skiing at high altitude, or in extremely cold temperatures, it isn't a problem. You prepare for it. You wear many layers of high tech fabric designed for the elements. You wear protection appropriate for the weather. Skydivers haven't figured this out. So many jumpers put on gloves that consist of little more then golf or baseball gloves, with a latex surgical glove underneath. They consider this appropriate winter protection. Meanwhile downhill skiiers have learned to wear big puffy mitts and gloves that'll actually keep them warm at altitude. Cross country skiiers wear combinations of neoprene and fleece, which keeps them warm through absolutely frigid temperatures. We, as a group, need to learn what it takes to jump in the winter, if this is something we want to do. People blindly putting latex under a golf glove is rediculous. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. But what if the insight is relevant...? Like this, from one of his posts: 09 - Maveron 250 04 - Raider 220 01 - Sihlouette 210 02 - Navigator 200 05 - Triathlon 175 01 - Tempo 170 04 - Saber 170 04 - Spectre 170 15 - Triathlon 160 38 - Triathlon 150 02 - Tempo 150 04 - Diablo 150 36 - Cobalt 150 04 - Cobalt 135 52 - Heatwave 135 02 - Crossfire 2 129 08 - Xaos 21 108 Ie, under a xaos 21 at 180 jumps....? Exit weight estimated at 200. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. I've said repeatedly that I think the most compelling use for a hook knife is to occupy your mind while you plummet to your death. However, that hasn't kept me from jumping with one - a "Jack" knife, too. I carry one on every jump. I figure if I'm going to jump with one, it better be a good one... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Good example. Here's one that's a bit more complicated. What about a well known dz.com'er, flying a very highly loaded eliptical canopy, with only a few hundred jumps. He breaks his pelvis, and a tight group of people are keeping it a secret so people won't say "I told you so". Is that appropriate....? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  21. Oh, come on John. Don't act so surprised. This debate became rediculous and unworthy of reply days ago... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  22. The deal with any compression standard, is that it's tunable to how far you want things actually compressed. The rate of compression and file quality varies withtin a compresion format. For example, you can run at a very high level of compression, and get a really crappy image - like the one you posted. Or, you can run at a very low level of compression, and have a nearly perfect image. File size and image quality is a direct trade-off. At 1.5 gigs, I suspect that you'll be able to have about 10 minutes of DV quality video, or an hour and a half of crap you wouldn't want your dog to see. This is probably even selectable on the camera. Only time will tell, though. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. Until they define "high quality", I'm very sceptical. Isn't 5 minutes of raw DV about 800 MB? I'm not up on the compresion ratio of MPG4, but I can't imagine that it's THAT much better then the compression on DV...? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. Wrong. It's a common way to teach new jumpers and students how to manage the more complex flare on a ZP canopy. A "real and proper" ZP flare has about a hundred stages, not two. It's up to the pilot to fly the canopy all the way to the ground, and a two stage flare does nothing to help this. Using the full range of the flare is the "proper" way to flare a ZP canopy. The two-stage flare is an introduction to this concept. _Am _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. While being a long way from being usable to us, this is interesting. A hard disk based camcorder. Current crapiness is a relatively small disk (1.5 gigs), which limits video quality and recording time... but still, a cool idea and good progress. http://www.samsungelectronics.com/news/digital_media/com_news_1042258779765_001300.html _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
