  1. Wow. I'm schocked. Question then, how many private gun owners, and those with C&C permits have more training then cops? If the training cops get is only so good so many of them manage to kill themselves, how much training should we require of private individuals? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  2. In my camera suit, I have bunched up and hit speeds in excess of 150 mph - the jump with the freefall colision where I tried to keep up with an unconscious jumper. With my wings fully inflated, I'm able to slow down to 99MPH. I could probably go both faster and slower in my suit, if I tried harder. The camera suit gives me an incredible range. More importantly though, is that it allows me to change speeds (specifically slowing down) much more quickly. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  3. You're assuming everybody actually buys the program. Those who obtain it through "other" means, usually end up buying a third party book - which frequently run $40 and more. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  4. That's part of it, but generally instructors want to be able to clearly see the expresions on your face, which a full-face will obstruct. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  5. It depends on a few things. There is no evidence to back up what your rigger said. The tests that Gary Peek with the unit do not show this to be true. You can read his analysis here: http://www.pcprg.com/cyprespc.htm However, 1) If there's any chance that you'll need to turn it back on, just leave it on. The full cycle, turn off, turn on takes more power then leaving it on. The turn-on cycles is particularly power intensive. 2) If you're leaving the DZ at the end of the day, and you'll be going up and down hills in your car, turn it off. The changes in altitude will put the unit into a mode that draws more power. If you're sure you're done jumping, turn it off. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  6. Sort of. There's RSS to WAP converters. RSS is just data, after all - and WAP is just formatted data. In case of your phone, the convertor wouldn't run on your phone, but on a webserver that serves up WAP pages. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  7. This makes a lot of sense. RW manufacturers and sells a lot of the hardware found on other rigs. It's be a very poor business decision for them to be slamming their 'customers'. Take a look at the metal hardware on your rig next time. Odds are there's either a RW or PDF stamped on it somewhere... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  8. Why....? Seriously, what do you expect to get from them? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  9. Well, good sevice is always good if it's legal and ethical. That said, is it legal to swap in used batteries if there's still time left on them? Wouldn't this be like replacing the wings on an airframe with used ones? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  10. While nobody here is going to recomend that wingloading, under that canopy, at that experience level... it's not off the charts. It's not rediculous. Encourage your friend to get some profesional coaching under the new canopy. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  11. Sounds kinda like a bad Japanese horror flick... _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  12. The problems of children born in the Yukraine since Chernobyl goes FAR beyond a few having asthma problems. Nuclear safety needs to be justified by the safety of Candu and American plants, not by watering down the damage of Chernobyl. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  13. For the record, I'm not. Bill's example was a hypothetical. The fact that I'm not actually connected doesn't change the point, though. _An __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  14. I have no doubt. That much is clear. It's clear that Sadam is a very evil man. It's clear that any person with the intelligence of a rat wouldn't want to live there. It's clear that he's violated fundamental human rights of his citizens. That puts him in a list of about a hundred different world leaders, all who are quilty of doing the exact same things. Should the US invade Zimbabwe next just because Mugabe is an asshole to his people? _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  15. Like I said, if not me, then well respected world leaders. If Bush thinks they don't "need to know", then there is something very wrong. If he has information, we know he hasn't shared it with NATO or the security council, because they keep telling us they don't have it. His father had world support because he had a justifiable cause. Bush Jr, does not seem to have that. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  16. Maybe is not good enough. If he has proof, he needs to tell us (or at least other world leaders) what it is. If he doesn't have proof, he should wait until he does. If he never gets it, he should walk away. From all indications, he doesn't have proof, and doesn't care. From all indications, he'll attack no matter what the reality in Iraq really is. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  17. I would much rather have a president that cheats on his wife and has kinky sex with his co-workers, then have one who seems to be obsessed with wiping out a small country. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  18. I've got a better idea. RSS is a XML based protocol initially developed for newsfeeds, but is now being used by a multitude of forums, blogs, and general interest websites. RSS news readers reassemble the xml into a format specific to whatever platform your on. For example, go to http://www.livejournal.com/users/wilwheaton, what your seeing is actually an RSS newsfeed of wil's blog on his own website at www.wilwheaton.net. Yes, he really is that much of a dork. RSS newsreaders exist for pretty much every mobile platform, and are ideally suited for this purpose. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  19. Generally you're right, but in Iraq higher leaders in the millitary do seem to have access to forign media. For example, many of them have internet access, which is why the US emailed them last week - after which the mail servers were promptly shut off. Plus, the US has been dropping pamphlets for monthes now, I suspect they change that message regularly. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  20. Buy sony. Anyways, completely unrelated. That website www.digitalliquidators.com has some outstanding prices... including a vx2000 for less then I paid for my pc120. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.

  22. Like I said, I find the canon website confusing, and am aparently not smart enough to figure out the differences. I was hoping someone could give me a primer. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  23. The weird thing is that I've spent 28 years living in cities that have some of the nastiest neighbourhoods around. In Toronto, Chicago, Cleveland - all cities with urban problems, I've managed to live my life without ever being a victim. I've never even met a victim. I've never met anyone who's actually been in one of these situations, and it's not like me or any of my friends try to avoid them. I've never lived more then 10 minutes from downtown in two of the continents biggest cities, and never once have I been mugged, or even threatened. I literally walk through some of these cities "worst" neighborhoods, and do so without fear. It's not something that I "will" myself to do. It's not something I prepare to do. It's just something that I've always done, and never feared doing. The other thread abot columbine touched on the notion that Americans are largely afraid. I can't agree more. I'm not afraid. I don't need to carry a gun to make myself feel safe. I pity those who do. That you need to go to the website of an organization that pushes not for gun rights, but actually encourages guys like me to carry a gun, is testamony to the rarity of these events actually happening. Don't get me wrong - I'm actually not anti-gun. I like guns, and I even use them - usually about once a year when I head up north for some hunting. I do think America is obsessed with guns, largely because they have a mostly irrational fear of being a victim. Amerians always seem to think that there's a person just around the corner that's gonna "get them" if they're not careful. That can't be a very nice way to live. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  24. Sort of. You're allowed to carry on one bag and one "personal item". That personal item can be a purse, briefcase, camera case... or small bag containing spare clothes. This is one of the reasons I wear my rig on my back. I then pack all my clean clothes into my gear bag, that way I only have one checked bag. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
  25. Out of curiosity, I wonder what you guys think about the idea of taking a discussion about a tragedy involving 14 dead kids, and turning it into a discussion about how cool each of your guns are. _Am __ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
