  1. No, it really isnt........It was a beautiful day here in NY today, but since I couldnt jump, I decided to go for a fly. Unfortunately, that meant I would have to drive an hour (round trip) to go get a push-to-talk switch, since mine died one day. So anyways, I'm driving back from the FBO at Rochester, and guess what... Yup, you guessed it....I get pulled over by a friggin sherriff. JUST what I need right now, another ticket. Well, to make things even merrier- its 2 for 1 day at the Monroe County Sherrifs Department!!!!! Woo hoo. Damn. Well, after sitting on the side of the road and snickering as the guy got writers cramp writing my tickets (hehehehe, thats a lot of writing...that still makes me chuckle ) I came home with a ticket for doing 71 in a 55 (not unreasonable, considering it had just dropped from 65 and everyone around me was doing the same speed as me), and heres the kicker: my window tinting is a whopping 3% too f&cking dark (mine is 27.3% and the legal limit is 30%). I used to tint windows for people all the time back in high school- the human eye can BARELY (and I do mean barely) tell the difference between the two. So yeah, I got one for that too....how rediculous is that? At first I was thinking this was going to put my trip to FreezeFest in serious jeopardy, but after looking at the tickets, I see that the court date isnt until like Feb. 11th...so as long as my work schedule permits, I'm still gonna be there (lol, hopefully the court takes Visa)!!!!!!! Sorry for the rant..... Blue skies, -Marshall
  2. I try not to laugh at whuffos, but I have to agree with the reasons of the people that do. They ask, but dont want to know. They say, "oh, I've always wanted to do that" but never do. Theres a difference between whuffos, and someone who is truely interested in becoming a part of our sport. Sometimes I think whuffos ask stupid questions just to insult us, other times, it seems that they are just plain ignorant. On the other hand, for someone who is truely interested in the sport, the only stupid question is the one you didnt ask (but wish you did as your burning through 1,000 ft. every 5 seconds or so). I do not think that it is hard to distinguish between the two at all. And the one whuffo comment that makes me want to laugh and insult every whuffo that says it is: "How hard can it be to fall through the air?" or the one my dad uses to piss me off: "Oh, I could do that". I used to waste my time trying to describe to them what its like when they would say something like: "well, it would be cool once, but whats the point of doing it so much?" I've gotten over trying to do that...now I just tell them they wouldnt understand unless they tried it. Oh well. Their loss... -Marshall
  3. AWESOME MOVIE!!! Just thought I'd give it my personal recommendation to you all....
  4. I used to think I was pretty damn good at chess. Then one day I tried playing it on Yahoo a few times. I'm humbled....I now feel that I suck at chess, lol. Ah, well...I'll stick to skydiving...
  5. lol...ummm, well..... 0:0:0 NY Sucks....
  6. Hey Viking...whats up? lol...I saw your picture of your crazy arch (I wish I could arch like that)...maybe thats why you keep ripping jumpsuits. 2 suits in 16 jumps...hmm, that could get costly. You need to have someone make you a "pre-formed" jumpsuit...like one with the back shorter than the front, and have all spandex on the front or something, lol....that way when you arch like that it doesnt get ripped off...
  7. "Im going to trade my 135 Sabre in for a 97 Stiletto or a Icarus 69 Extreme."
  8. Ahhhh, thats no excuse....I'm only 19 and I comply with all the beer rules...
  9. Yeah, I would say it all depends on the student government. The one I belonged to did really well. SGA gave us our fair share of money (for gear). Between that and semesterly dues, we owned and maintained 3 complete rigs, and I hear they just put together another one for this semester (I dont go there anymore). Also, they were in good with the people at the DZ because it was a pretty long established club, so we got discounted jumps, and an excellent discount at the gear store. Maybe it would help to make up a nice presentation (on powerpoint or something) and present it to the Student Govt. to show them what the sport is all about. Include a little bit of everything...equipment, safety, training, disciplines, etc. Good luck... -Marshall
  10. Yeah, I agree with Joe. I'm a waiter/host at a decent restaurant, and on a super busy night I'm making $20/hr easily. I sometimes get as much as $65 in tips a night, average is usually about $40-$45. Slow nights usually pull in about $20-$35. And thats all just tips. Something to consider....good luck... -Marshall
  11. Damn...why cant it snow more here in western NY? I'm sick of having to drive 2-5 hours to the mountains to get my money's worth outta my almost brand new snowmobile....Oh well...I'm sellin it anyways so I can get a new rig...
  12. The frames on my glasses are really small and theres no way they'll fit under my Z1... So I dont bother wearing them (eyesight isnt THAT bad). I'm gonna get contacts pretty soon, so I will be able to see even better, and wont have to worry about my glasses (which I seem to break, bend, or lose about three times a year)...
  13. Hmm...what have I given up... A 4-yr. degree from a private school (transferring to a state college ), an apartment, a car, some flying/flight ratings, my parents respect (they just dont get it, never will), a girlfriend, and maybe a friend or two (I try to stay in touch with my whuffo friends, but its getting harder and harder, they dont get it either)...seems like a lot, but definitely nothing that wasnt worth the sacrafice. All this will never compare to the people I've met and fun I've had (and will continue to have) skydiving... Blue skies forever, -Marshall

Of the 5 different jobs I've had in my life, I can honestly say I've never had a boss that I really didnt like. A boss is a boss, but that doesnt mean they arent good guys.

I'm sure you would get some pretty awkward looks if you launched a 4-way outta the elevator, lol. That would be hilarious...
  19. I have a really cool pair of goggles that I got for like $15 at a gear store. They look little bigger than sunglasses, and they never go anywhere. The only problem is, I have no idea what brand they are or anything...the lenses are tinted and they've never fogged on me (but Ive only used them 3 or 4 times, I have a Z1, so I really dont need them). I'll try to find the brand or something and post it back up here....
  20. LOL...that was hilarious. You're right, definitely worth the time...
  21. "Did I miss any?" well, I think I could think of a couple more...but in the interest of keeping the peace here, I will keep them to myself...
  22. Cause its not something your "into" at first- it happens over time...
  23. "I think they call that 'Stockholm Syndrome'" Yup, they sure do. Its kinda freaky too...I did a whole way-too-many-page paper on it in one of my psychology classes last semester...
  24. I'm personally of the thinking that anything to enhance safety is a good thing. So, I almost always jump with a cypres (but no RSL....and thats a whole different story thats also been beat into the ground). Whats this guy mean by, "There wouldnt be anything left of me." There sure as hell would be a lot more left than if he didnt have anything out. That just doesnt make much sense to me I guess.
