  2. I heard fayard closed it down, until he could take full control of it, and is planning to reopen it. I heard also right now there is a little dz there in its place, but not affiliated with SD America, just keeping people in the air for now. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  3. Relative Workshop uses the same, or shold I say Mirage uses the same, oh well they use the same spring, I believe its a 44 lb spring, Ive popped many Vectors and they all have launched very well, even when wet. But no other manufacturer has a reserve system as fast as the skyhook. I jumped one and was amazed at how fast it was, and clean, my attempt at intentional unstableness was quickly stopped, and I had a beautiful, fast as hell, but soft opening. 4. Yep, and to add I have 4 saves. All in the past year, as soon as I learn to sew Im gonna take my exam, until then I have my trusty suprevisor. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  5. I myself (for once) dont know how to vote, I do know that something needs to be done, Jump #s dont succesfully show knowledge or talent. But there needs to be something done, if you are going to strap a high wingloaded parachute to your back, you are taking a lot of responsability, to yourself and to the people that share the air and landing area with you. I myself open and try as hard as I can to land last or first, its my opinion when I am in the air that everyone else there is trying to kill me and I want to stay as far away as possibe. To me my parachute, is there to save me, and maybe give me a good swoop, if the air is open. It pisses me off, that so many people big or small canopy dont think about safety and not just in landing, they should think about the air as well. example (someone that is afraid as hell of someone near them under canopy, but still lands in a large group of people in a short time just to land near the pea's). When a load of 23 people all land in 20 feet of each other in less than a minute, with canopies that range from .08 to 2.7 wingloading something is wrong. Education: Yes there needs to be education, if not more people will die, yes I said WILL! As hard as gear manufacturers work at making skydiving safer, jumpers work harder to make it more dangerous. Dropzone owners, STA's, everyone needs to step up to the plate and if you see someone make a stupid mistake or judgement, tell them. Gear dealers need to stop selling people canopies they arent ready for. I have myself seen a LOT of recent people trying out Velocities, Xaos's, and Fx's that have no reason being under that canopy whatsoever, I have helped wash blood off one myself that the guy was told he is asking for it, and thank god he is alive today. BSR: Maybe we have to do this, as long as we let people make up their minds about what they dont understand, then we are allowing them to endanger us as well as themselves. Im still not decided on this and since I have a lot of experience, I dont want to limit people's growth, and I also know where I came from (Broken Femur, hooked it in small canopy lucky to be alive, 400 jumps) but from where I am at now, I think that everyone will be safer if we limit who can fly what. It is hard to decide who, and what, and who says who and what, but in the direction we are heading we need to do something. Final thought: Everyone and anyone, that jumps a small canopy (any canopy for that thought) has a responsability to themselves and the people in the air with them, Just being capable of landing a canopy says squat about you, you need to be mature enough in your progression, to know what will keep you alive and the people around you alive also. That is what defines what canopy your ready for. It isnt what you can land, a monkey can land a ve90, but a monkey can kill anyone on the way down. Most of all, be safe and think about things, just cause you can land a canopy doesnt mean you can fly that canopy, if everyone doesn't start making good decisions the ability to make a decision will be taken from us. It is everyone's responsability, to make sure we are ALL smart and safe. Give opinions, ask opinions. Anyone that has been in the sport a long time, should have seen the one! We see them all the time, we all go yeah he's the next, and usually he is. This shouldnt happen. We need to stop looking and saying yeah he will hook it in soon, and instead do something from stopping that from happening. If it was someone that pulled low instead of hooked low he would be grounded, why isnt someone grounded/reprimanded for hooking low. Anyway I have said enough, think about it and make your own mind up. Be carefull and be smart. Its not your own life you are responsable for its everyone that you jump with's. my 2cents. Edited to add 2000+ jumps 2.3 wingloading today. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  6. The Norgies idea not to go with the new bag, was purely because they never had a problem with the old one. If something isnt broke why fix it. Doug Parks has both the old and a new on his rig's and he says that he likes his velocity openings on the New one better, I have jumped both and I truly never saw a difference. Packing them takes a little more care when putting the bag into the container, it is easy to pull out extra line from the holder, (As any rigger can understand, just like a reserve) but easy once you get the hang of it. I designed a bag that a few people use in Deland, including myself, that is a lot easier to stuff a larger canopy into a smaller bag, its pretty simple, you just line the bag with zp, it makes it so much easier to stuff, it slides right in there. but that is another subject. This is my (OPINION) but it has merrit. The Original Mod with the double bartack, did absolutely Nothing, to strengthen the attatchment. If anything it actually weakened it by tearing more holes into the fabric. Mike Truffer from skydive Magazine did a test and the actual tape ripped 50% of the time, not even at the stitch, the other times it tore at the stitch but at a very low pull force. Precision doesn't manufacture reserves using type3 webbing anymore, and modifications sent to the factory changed the webbing. I think but not sure (someone help me out here) that there was a second mod, that made you change the tape. Type 3 tape has been used on sport mains successfully for a long time, but it doesnt hold up to the strain of a terminal reserve deployment. Precision makes more reserves than any other company, and they are a treat to pack, I havent flown one so I dont know how they fly. As long as the canopy doesn't have type3 webbing it should be a fine reserve to have. I can say that I love my PD reserve, and I would jump nothing else, I have jumped the 3 smallest size pd Sells, and they flew and opened wonderfully. Never a hard landing, I even swooped the 106 twice. As my Opinion if you have the money buy a PD if you just want a reserve and dont care buy the used whatever. Just make sure you have a rigger inspect it first before you give your money, if you buy it and it needs work then you might get stuck paying for it yourself. Favorite Wine?

  9. [reply ouch...... Dave, that wasn't personal, I as a cameraman, can understand the importance of performing to the best of my ability. Just like a PT (Point turner) every camera jump is a training jump, and the more training jumps you have the better you get. I was just stating to the open DZ.com community, if you have a team that performs well, you need a cameraman that does the same or you both loose, Just a competition standard,as for training, Majik is a good example thier cameraman never competed with them one time, its hard to turn down free video. Not to say their cameraman didnt get it in the 1000 jumps he did with them, he is pretty good, just a Majik level team need's a majik level cameraman. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  10. And in competition a good cameraman helps a LOT! Nothing sucks worse than training a whole year, only to loose because of your cameraman messing up! Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  11. I know a few good ones, Let me ask them for a card and I will PM it to you. There is a lot of places, and cost is pretty cheap. So you should find what you need. Congrats and good luck. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  12. I took a cheap rachet, extension and a spark plug socket, and made an excellent tool for closing reserves. The extension works great as a pull bar, and the socket works perfect for a power tool, I used a die grinder and a drill to make a slit so you can put your closing loop, then I used some emery cloth to clean it up, and then a deburring tool. Para gear charges a fortune for a closing tool, I boutght mine from the bin at Discount Auto for $5. All the rest, I bought from a sheetmetal place in town, super cheap. 13. I have noticed, in time the vectran lines become rough, more abrasive, so it is a little harder for the slider to slide down, (Just like Dacron) I have a tube of this waxy substance that was sent to me from a Vectran line manufacturer, they supply this wax to archery stores to lubricate bow strings, they claim it lengthens the life of the string considerably. I have new lines on my canopy so I havent used it just yet, but I will soon, just on the uppers, and my lower control lines. And only a little, a Test area. You can search around, (It took me forever) but you can find a few topics on Vectran lines and lubrication, they recommend at least a 50 % silicone. The stuff I have is a silicone, wax mix that is supposed to not attract dirt, which will shorten the life of your ine through abrasion. But if you feel like taking a chance, you can find a bunch of wax solutions at an archery supply store, there is even special Vectran Wax available. Good luck, and let me know your results. 14. Relative workshop (You knew I was going to say that) makes a very good kill line pc. It has an internal kill line the whole way through. I believe you can get the pc and bridle from Rws and if you have the right size grommet on your bag it will fit great, you might want to ask about that. My pc has over 1000 jumps on it and it's holding up fine. The kevlar line thing that wings is doing sounds like a great idea. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  15. I just picked up a cheap PC1 for a backup to my PC5 that works when it wants to. I bought it not working, because we have a guy at our dz that has a ton of parts, enough to make a frankensony, But damn all of his camera parts have one thing wrong, and it just happens to be the same thing. There has been a few post's inquiring about used pc1's for part's, I was wondering if anyone found one, or has one, maybe the part I need is still good. Or maybe where there is a dealer of used Sony parts. Any help will be appreciated, and I will buy the used broken PC-1 if the part I need is good. Oh yeah, the part is the tray the tape goes in, where the head is stored, if you buy it new from sony you have to buy the whole thing head and all, at an extreme cost. It's all just for the little ribbon wire, mine has a crack in it, and the ribbon wire needs to be replaced, its integrated into the tray. Thanks Ray Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  16. Do you need it for parts? If so what parts? There is a guy at my dz with 4 pc-1's he keeps just for part's. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  17. Bob Halett has a camera helmet in his office with a cutaway and parachute deployment system on it, The problem with it, is the way it is made, a premature deployment of the parachute will rip your head off! I dont know who makes the helmet, but I have seen it a bunch of time's, I even talked about it with Norman Kent, and he said the same thing. Maybe if you could place a pilot chute inside the helmet to avoid ripping your head off, and manufacture a deployment system that would fire when the helmet left your head (this would be a little tricky to 100% engineer) Also all this stuff adds weight, granted 10 years ago all camera helmets were heavy (I got tired carying Gus Wings helmet and had to change hand's) But with as spoiled as I am today, and everyone else, I dont really think me or anyone else want's to add weight to our helmet's. But if you, or someone comes up with it, I would definitely look at it seriously, camera gear is expensive so saving it is good. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  18. I am a little confused here, how would a slight bend cause a premature deployment on a reserve? On certain rig's, the rig manufacturer request's an angle from the pin manufacturer, are you talking about this? And confusing the straight pin of a Javelin, with the kind of angled pin of the Mirage. If a pin breaks, that would be definitely a bad thing, but a pin should be able to bend without breaking (though a bent pin isnt good either) but even with a large bend (i.e a curved deployment pin) I dont think it would cause a reserve deployment. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  19. Ok I am not a rigger, but I am a rigger apprentice, with a lot of availability of knowledge about gear, to add I am one of those annoying guys that ask a lot of questions, and questions the questions. But anyway back to the question, My rigger trainer, started me out on a reflex, and Damn, that is the easiest rig I have packed, anyone that charges more to pack a reflex is a crook. I love to pack Vector3's just because of the self gratitude you get when you make it look good. The Reflex is easy to close and you dont have to fight with it as much to make it look pretty. As far as the catapult, I have fought enough with a very popular Dz.com member about this (Who hasn't shown his face in this side of the discussion yet) about the catapult, There is a reason why no one uses it, if it was a good system it would be used, ie the 3 ring vs Capewell. Other than that Racers: They invited me to train me to pack racers anytime and offer their knowledge, which I will take up. So I think of them as a good company. And from the people I talk to at home (a lot of racer rigger's) they like to pack them the best. But still I Love my V3... But any rigger should be able to pack the rig given to him, or in return refuse to attempt it. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  20. Its my "Opinion" to do nothing with twist's just hang there, it will work out, (based on time never wait too long) but if you watch the bundle drops from the manufacturers, they drop inanimate objects and they sometimes twist, and they always come out. (well from the vid I have seen). I used to hate my Velocity Openings until I started shooting Video where I quit watching my opening's, then they started opening great, that all was based on me trying to change or fly the opening. But 98% of all the line twists I have had came out fast as hell just by not doing nothing and hanging there, 1 after I had to kick out, and one I cut away but both I fought a little, if I had just rode it out Im sure it would have been fine. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  21. Vengeance, Velocity and Stiletto are all canopies for more advanced canopy pilots while the Sabres and even Spectres are good for people learning how to fly a canopy. I'm sure I could handle a Spinetto or maybe even the Vengeance, but I'm not ready for the x-braced Velocity. To add I can swoop much farther on a saber2 than I ever could on a same size stilletto, to add I have 700 jumps on a stilletto, and maybe 45 on a saber2. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  22. Funny I remember watching one of yours from on top of the burble. LOL But true that could cause it. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  23. You wont believe the power wing's give you, and the bigger the wings the More power. Norman Kent does tracking Dives standing up, its amazing to see a bunch of tracjker's, and this guy in a stand flying with them, almost looks impossible. I go so far as I wear 18lbs of weight along with my suit, so I can get even more range. The added swoop performance I get is a plus also. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  24. On an intentional cutaway rig, there is 2 set's of 3 ring's. So you can cutaway the Reserve, then cleanly deploy your belly mount reserve. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
  25. The canopy I cutaway is in a big balled mess, as expected, Quote You can say that again, it looked like a perfect ball, I wanted to catch it so bad, but I know how dangerous it is. At least yours landed on the Airport, that's the advantages of intentional's, mine took an hour of walking in the Jungle to find it. Ray Small and fast what every girl dreams of!
