The true orgin of the current Mideast conflict?
falxori replied to cumplidor's topic in Speakers Corner
most likely because early christians wanted to distinguish themselves from judaism in order to establish Christianity as a religion by itself. and after pumping the "the jews killed christ" mantra for 2000 years, antagonism becomes the default for many. did you even read the debate that was going on here? this was an answer to why Israel is allowing jews to immigrate easily, not why it has a right to exist. I guess you don't "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
that's not an opinion, its a fact (publishing the info on their website), what does it matter who published it? "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

there is a difference between a law preventing you from doing something and a law meant to help a weaker segment do things easier (but not denying others). and before you say "jews aren't weak", i think you can admit that they are pretty much the most haunted nation/race/religion on this planet and therefor need a place they can call their own. and allocating X% of seats on a board for women is sexist and making sure X% of college students are minorities is racist, and scholarships aimed at a specific type of people (and the are many) are also racist. this law exists for a very good reason. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

and corrective discrimination is still discrimination but is still pratcied in order to "fix" inherent problems (minorities in schools, women in public boards, etc) the law that allows jews to come to Israel is a result of the holocaust and other incidents were jews were prosecuted just because they were jews. so you can consider it a kind of corrective discrimination. no, what i'm saying is that you have to be practical and every nation should have its own state and every state will make up its own set of rules. My family was living in Hebron for centuries and were kicked out during the 36-39 riots. hundreds of thousands of arab jews were kicked out of their homes (leaving tons of property behind) in the early 50's. if you want to be "right", i should go back to Hebron but if you want to be practical, Hebron is now 98% palestinian. we've discussed this issue in another thread recently. basically, most cuntries have similar criteria for being allowed to move in (or become a citizen) - being born there - being the son (or grandson) of a citizen - getting a work permit - special cases (refugees etc.) all of this also exist in israel (jews or non jews) so its not easier or harder to move here than anywhere else in the world. in addition to these options, if you are jewish you can get in anyway. this was done in order to make sure every jew could find a refuge in Israel, and considering recent history, yes, i see the need for that. so by that sense, Israel's existance in the past 60 years and the very strong jewish presence here in the past 100 years or so is good enough ? if you look at the present, we're both here and sharing is the only valid option, if you look at the past to determine who is the "rightful owner", you can't simply pick the time frame that suits your views. what I am saying is that they will (or will not) have the same right you are automatically giving the Palestinians and denying the Israelis. who said 100 years is valid but 2000 is not? "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

as long as people remember and consider this place their home. and yes, 2000 years is as valid as 60. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

that all depends if you think they had a right to come back to Israel after being in exile for a long time. clearly I do. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

in the 1920 neither the histadrut, nor any other "jewish" organization had any say in who can and cannot come to Israel, the authority was in the hands of the brits. you could say their historic link to this place. but what makes it home to them is their feeling its their home. but lets not start the "whos home it is" debate and agree that it is both nations' home and thus has to be divided. what you call "foreigners" i call people returning home. would you consider the palestinian refugees of 1967 foreigners if/when they return to the state of palestine? how long do you have to be away in order to be a foreigner? because it seems to me that most jews felt "foreign" anywhere but in Israel. what laws are you talking about? i've never heard of such laws. I have heard however about the british "white book" which limits the number of jewish refugees that were allowed to come to Israel, if you are looking for racist laws... exaclty, and that's exactly why I have a problem with the flood of threads about this issue, all of them point to the problems and how Israel has caused them, very few suggest a solution (other than all Israelis pack up and move which is not an option) tell that to the original poster, He started the "who started it" thread... the title of the thread suggests Israel has. why does it only bother you when the Arab side is said to have started things? who started things is very relevant if you're looking for who to blame. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

unlike many here, i don't rely on the numbers to determine whos fault it is. I rely on who started it and who attacked who, and quoting your post its pretty obvious. if the result of the riots was that the british police stepped in to restore the order, it may be a sad outcome but the alternative of the rioting going on is not better... agreed. i've only posted this story to show that the theme of "the evil jews murdered unarmed civilians" is at best, lacking the historical context of the war going on at the time. property and lives were lost on both sides. sad but true. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

oh right... so the result of what were the riots of 1929 and 1936-1939 ? at least you've accepted the fact that civilians who have surrendered were murdered. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

I'm sorry to burst the bubble here, but just for the sake of balance, look up the history of "gush etzion" and what happened to the people who lived there until they were murdered in 1948, all four settlements were totally destroyed. The Arabs murdered 240 men and women, with another 260 being taken into captivity. you can't grasp history by looking into one event from a one sided point of view ignoring the context of the war going on at the time (and especially who started that war) "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
right, they usually jump to the conclusion that Israel is guilty. investigation takes time, and by the time its finished no one cares anymore. I have many examples for you where something is "public knowledge" although it was later on proven as false. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
-
what you're doing is a basic investigation mistake. you assume a conclusion and then you build a case that will lead to it, proving the pre chosen conclusion. no it doesn't, having precision weapons is as effective and the precision of your target and if Hezbollah is firing rockets from houses or roam about a UN compound, it is very likely that these "non targets" will be hit too. the difference is who you are trying to hit. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

I'm sure you see it as "supporting the weak and needy" but their ongoing support of Hamas and Hezbollah is starting and fueling a war, they just send others to fight no, not filled with crazy people, just a selected few with a crazy leadership. and that leadership is pretty open about its wishes "to kill everyone", at least in Israel. in case you don't know, Israel and Iran were close friends before the revolution, so my problem is with the Iranian leaders, not the people. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

lets be clear about something. i didn't accuse Iran of anything because the details are still unknown. my point is that some people here give the benefit of the doubt to anyone but when it comes to Israel, they are guilty until (and sometimes even if) proven innocent. and beside that, according to a Romanian source there was a commercial dispute between the Iranians and the Romanian company. now, whether it was the reason or was it a mistake, lets wait and see.
