Israeli soldiers kidnapped, and Isarael is now shelling

I think you are right, and that's what Israel is doing now in response to an unprovoked , peace braking attack by Hezbolla from Lebanon... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

Yes. arabs (and others) that were within Israel's border when it was established became Israeli citizens, and are generally peaceful. beside very few that sometimes help terrorism by driving suicide bombers and such, most of them run a normal life as part of the Israeli population. your suggestion would be valid in an ideal world. ours is not so ideal... the differences are more than religion, these are two completely different nations with almost nothing in common and I see no reason in having them share one state. there is a pretty clear demographic seperation and the two nations should have two different states. History has shown that putting two different nations (and these two are VERY different) in a forced joint government is not a good idea and it doesn't last long (in the good scenario of czeckoslovakia) or end up in a bloody civil war (Yugoslavia), the only valid solution is two states for the two nations. when the palestinians accept that instead of wanting it all, there will be peace. a. Israel's fault in that incident is very doubtful b. what the hell does this has to do with Hezbollah's actions in northern Israel? the attack from Lebanon WAS unprovoked. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -

when recently has Israel "bullied" Lebanon? this land belongs to me too. you don't want to share it, you want it all to yourself, well tough luck it aint going to happen and the sooner you realize that sharing it is the only option the better. looking at most of the world's current conflicts, I would say most of the bullies are the muslims... dude, your post is simply full of errors. are you sure about the 10,000 part ? at 1947 there were about 400,000 jews and right after the formation of Israel they were joined by about several hundreds of thousands that were kicked out of all the arab countries. why? when does a claim becomes obselete? would you say the same about the palestinian claim if they waited several hundreds of years more? the 6 days war started with an israeli preemptive strike after the egyptian president nasser closed israel's way out by sea to the south and moved armored troops into the sinai desert against all agreements. agreed. god's promise is irrelevant. Israel's link to this land which is as early as bibilcal times, is not. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

first of all i don't think this is the right question. you are trying to find a tactic benefit such as military inteligence (which Israel shares with the US), proven methods learned by bitter experience and so on. but the answer to why the US and Israel are friends is not a tactical one (Israel has some tactical limitations due to the US influece too) but a strategic one. the US and Israel are friends for the same reasons you are friends with western europe and canada. sharing the same values, lifestyle and western culture. does US support of Israel put it at a risk of being attacked? sure, but as i said before, you don't run out on your friends because someone else doesn't like it. I think its a very valid answer, especially because both countries share the same problem and share the same views on that method of operation. errr, thats simply not true. Isael is a democracy and not a "religious state". and its 20% minority of Israeli arabs are equal by law. the basic strategic reasons are that both countries share culture and values. there are differences and US support is far from unconditional. I don't know about you but if someone tries to hurt my friend i will try to help him even if i'm risking myself a bit. that's the meaning of friendship. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

they did settle the area long before anyone else who is currently claiming historic links to it. next time a cannanite wants to come live in Israel, he will have the same historic link. the 3000 years claims are a response to the claim that jews don't belong in Israel and that the Palestinians are the right "owners" of the land. the only point is that Jews in fact have proven historic links to this land and it goes far beyond those of the palestinians. you can also go back in time and say the dinosours should be given a homeland here... define "arabs" ? a nation is defined by its culture, religion, folklore etc. saying they were not jews but arabs because they used to live in what is called today "arabia" is absurd. once Islam took over these semite tribes basically became todays arab world. i will only claim this if God tells me that directly. what is right ??? if you call an unprovoked, border crossing act of war justice than you should check your standards if you are the face of Islam (and I have muslim friends who would laugh at that), than I thank god I'm not muslim. Hezbollah is an Iranian puppet that tries to show it still has some merit even though Israel is out of Lebanon and even the Lebanese don't want their trouble anymore (after they've kicked the syrian out). so they heat things up. this is a clear act of war and if you and your "balls" want a fight, you'll get one. its sad you always prefer the fighting option (and i don't think Islam has anything to do with it) "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
***[So how do you explain the clear preference from 1948 to 9/10/2001?/quote] similar values, similar culture, similar alignment during the cold war years. same as the US and the UK. its not so complicated to understand why the US and Israel are good friends for so long, and it serves both sides. you have no idea how angry and frustrated this makes me. much like Gaza, there is no israeli presence in Lebanon nor any threat on its teritory. Hezbollah is a terror organization ( fully backed by Iran and Syria) has been "reminding" us every now and then of its existance by firing a few rockets every now and then. this is an act of war carried out from Lebanese land by hezbollah who is operating under syrian and Iranian supervision. all of them are acountable. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
that's a load of crap. name one war that Israel had started? and as for nuclear arsenal, if Israel indeed has it since the late 60's and hasn't used it when it was close to destruction in 73, then its more responsible with it than 99% of the world. no. some are, and some are not. most simply don't know the real story and are led by cheap propaganda and lies. your assumption of taken is flawed. why not give back the jewish homeland? it was taken from them. I am home. jews ended up in europe, Africa, Asia, etc because their home was taken from them, now they have it back. but talking about returning stuff taken, how about all of the arab jews' property that was taken from them when they were kicked out ? jsut a point to the wise. when reading and quoting the gospels (or anything else) remember why they were written, what did the author try to gain and most of all, who was the audience at the time. if you consider all of that, it might strike you as strange that the all mighty pilate who was in charge "couldn't decide what to do" and that "the jews" were so eager to accept the blame for it for all eternity (would you?) anyway, i think it was meant to differ the early christianity from its jewish origins. sadly, over hundreds of years it became an axiom and slowly was accepted as simply true. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

I'm not sure and there is a fine line of semantics between the two. as far as I know (and history supports that), crucifixion was a popular roman method and they've used it to put down any signs of idependance and leadership such the ones seen in christ (leaving aside the theological debate, there is no doubt he was leading a growing number of people at the time). where there jews involved? probably since it happened here and he lived among (and in some ways was) jews. its a bit strange that no roman blame is mentioned, or maybe not since history is written by those in control... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

I'm sure you know that even the Vatican has declared that's not true. but its hard to uproot something that has been drilled into people's minds for 2000 years. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

one of the smartest ways to summerize a long story into a short sentence... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

number of posts has nothing to do with anything (although i'm sure you win there too) mostly in your posts I see reasons why its all Israel's fault and half truths about historic events with an added flavor of tortures, systematic and randon killings and destruction where you know very well that thats not true. agreed, and I have no assumptions that i will change yours. i'm worried that people who don't really know the facts will follow the cheap propaganda and form misguided views. Fact: There was NEVER a Palestine. Fact: this land was occupied by both peoples. the majority shifted in different times in history. Israel has a big issue with torturing people, unlike our enlightened neighbours (including the Palestinians). you like throwing the blame so much, how about you suggest a solution? one which doesn't call for the destruction of Israel would be a nice start "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
-
then you don't know how the Israeli mind works. just look at the prisoners of wars exchanges done in the past, where hundreds prisoners were exchanged for very few israelis (and even for dead bodies) this palestinian act was simply too much after endless showers of rockets on our border towns and a terrorist government who openly calls for the destruction of Israel. and yes, there has not been a single Israeli in gaza but still rockets fly out of there. when you look for a reason, you'll find one anywhere. and just so you know, the US military aid to egypt is not that far behind the one Israel is getting and the US has very good strategic reasons for doing so. if you believe otherwise, thats ok, vote for someone with your vies. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

thats one option but it had failed in the past (see yugoslavia, czechoslovakia, etc. for example) forcing two different nation to sit under one government will not work in the long run the only option is having two states side by side, the population is not that mixed and the land can be divided (the maps are pretty much drawn). "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
-
no, its Israel's idea of responding to rockets flying out of Gaza when there is no Israeli in the gaza strip and for the taking of a soldier in a military operation across the border. this offensive is for trying to get the soldier back and for punishing the Hamas led PA who is responsible and even carried out this attack. i agree with the rest of your post about forcing the sides to sit and talk. but that has nothing to do with the US aid to Israel. by that logic the PA should stop getting internation aid as well, but i dont hear you say that "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
-
maybe not. but its as valid if not more valid that the arguements stated here why this land is not theirs. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

your original post reffered to the creation of Israel as a "land grab" from the Palestinians. what you call "dirty deals" after WWI , i will call giving the Jewish people their home land back after 2000 years. as for the historic debate. you can go further than 1200 BC but even if you do, and you name the Philistines (who btw were only living on the southern coastal area) as the "owners" of the land, it doesnt change my arguemet. the historic Philistines have nothing to do with todays Palestinians. and no, i don't want to go into the debate over who was here first, determining who was here 3000 years ago will not lead to a solution, i only go there when people claim "land grab" and that land is Palestinian. the land can be related to both and both will have to share it or kill eachother trying to get it all. history has proven who was willing to share it and who wasn't. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

so you weren't confused and yes, you are right, the UN (or what was the UN at the time) tried to find a solution to the situation where both parties had a claim in the region and it based its maps on the population layout at the time (coastal area mostly to israel and mountain area (west bank) mostly for the arab. after the war Israel was founded, the west bank was under jordanian control and gaza under egyptian (and that wasnt fun for the palestinians either. again, my apologies for confusing your confusion...
