Think gas prices will go up if Iran get nuked?
falxori replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
1. how is that different from palestinians who believe the land is theirs and no one elses? 2. we're talking about Iran and its threat to wipe israel off the map. i don't remember any land dispute between Israel and Iran (and please don't sell me the "helping their muslim brothers" issue because you know very well they'll be at eachother's throats if it had served them better) agreed. true. Israel has signed a full peace treaty with egypt and jordan (even if its not a warm peace). and has low ranking representation (mostly commercial) in other muslim and arab countries. the problem with Iran is that it openly called for the destruction of Israel (not to mention other cool ideas about the holocaust) and is actively supporting and even leading acts of war against Israel. add to that the fact that it is control by religious fanatics and you can see why Israel is worried. that said, i really hope Israel would not act alone on this, this problem goes far beyond just Israel. funny, i didn't see anywhere that he or anyone else said Israel is "elevated" above anyone. "created boogyman" as in the one who said "Israel should be wiped off the map?", "the holocaust is a myth" and other pearls of wisdom like that? O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

agreed. but if we assume that our societies are not fully self confident, and not immuned to facist take overs, they have to draw a line and block some ideas. keep in mind that hitler was elected in a democratic way as well. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

since when is the Jewish Religon a "race"?
falxori replied to ZigZagMarquis's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think it was ever a "race" it was a nation that was dispersed first by the Babylonians and then by the Romans so it had to live among other nations while keeping its own identity to a certain degree. many were integrated into the "hosting" nations and some kept their heritage. nothing about race here. replace "race" with "nation" or "common history" and you'll be on track. i don't get the whole "race" issue at all and I don't see blacks, asians or any other as being of a different race. they have some evolutionary differences based on the location and size of the local gene pool. if an Italian immigrant in the US still feels in touch with his Italian heritage (history, language, food, etc) he can still be seen as Italian American. if after 100 years, his family doesn't feel/know anything about Italy and their family history, then he is not so much Italian anymore. if you must insist on the "race" difference, than that Ethiopian jew is exactly that, a jew who came from Africa while I am a jew who's part of his family came from northern europe. depends by which "race" definition you go. Hitler developed a race theory where he defined the different races as he wanted and he gave a "priority" to each "race". then he went out to exterminate the "inferior" races. so by his own "race" definitions, he was a racist. I am white, blonde with blue eyes. the only thing that makes me jewish or different from any other sweedish guy is my heritage and culture that links me to the jewish nation. its all about the definition of who you are. I don't get the whole "race" idea. the "racial" differences most people talk about (skin color, etc) are nothing more than evolutionary differences based on environmental conditions. judism is not a "race", to some its a religion, to many other (including me) its a culture and heritage. there are "jews" of all shapes and sizes, the only thing that links them together is a common heritage and history. that doesn't make them a "race", it makes them a "nation". you know that, and I know that but to the common public when the title says "secret new uranium-based weapon" they don't know exactly what it means. the lasting impression is "hmmm Israel was using radioactive stuff to contaminate the lebanese soil" in today's world it doesn't matter what you do, it matters only how it looks in the media. its not the first time lies like this have been spread. by the time you prove them wrong (and sometimes you can't) the damage is already done. edit to add: the article is pretty clear about the message it's trying to deliver: "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

funny, i don't remember that Hezbollah returned the kidnaped soldiers or that the lebanese army took over southern lebanon disarming Hezbollah, like they were supposed to under UN resolution 1701. not to mention Hezbollah have been rearming to their teeth all over again... O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

remember this thread?: DZ.com Thread following this: Mystery of Israel's secret uranium bomb a "valid" and "unbiased" source like the British "Independent" reports so it must be true, right? but then, after they got the publicity they wanted and Israel (once again) was accused and sentenced, this... Israel did not use depleted uranium during conflict with Hizbollah, UN agency finds sadly, it wasn't the first time and I'll bet it wasn't the last.... remember that next time... i dont? first of all the two countries still face common enemies and excuse me for not buying the "the US is targetted only because it supports Israel" crap. so there is a current reason. but even if there weren't, would you desert a loyal friend just because you suddenly find it less beneficial to you? maybe its not a benefit but it is a valid reason, people usually side with others who share their lifestyle and values. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

one could say that it goes back to the cold war where everybody but israel in the region alligned themselves with the soviets. but i think it has more to do with being friend who share the same life style and values. maybe to a certain degree. i'm sure it would have been less complicated in WWII when the US was helping the UK (before taking an active role), was it wrong back then? O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

Israel on one side of the table and who on the other side? the PLO who has no control over things or Hamas who says they do not accept the previously signed treaties? what's the point of negotiations if you don't accept what was already signed? O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

because it serves the interests of the US to protect Israel. eveybody is spying on everybody else. if you look at the top floor of the US embassy in Tel-Aviv you'll see a reinforced concrete floor with no windows and lots of antennas on top, and i think its safe to say they are not there for a good MTV reception... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

the initial investigation indicates a targeting equipment error. doesn't matter if it was an equipment fault or human error and i can explain and give excuses on to why Israel is using artilary but the it doesn't change one fact... this is a sad mistake and innocent people got hurt, i am deeply sorry for that. actually i just came back from 3 weeks in the US, but i was mostly on the east coast (2 weeks of theme parks and disney world...) don't worry, if i'm anywhere near you, i'll come by and say hi O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

well, first of all there are very good relations between Turkey and Israel but I think it would very much help Lebanon too (and the entire region) if there was a strong international force that will do what the lebanese government can't/won't do. "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

I think you are missing in a few centuries... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

at least they make it public and don't hide behind "unbiased" names. watch your words, he was born in Iran, you know... it worked for Clinton... what's that has to do with anything? or should I post the history of the Iranian president as a torturer? "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

The true orgin of the current Mideast conflict?
falxori replied to cumplidor's topic in Speakers Corner
that's the only part of your post i agree with so i'll start with it.... I don't think anyones denies that Palestinians have a right for a state of their own. the division of the land is a concept that started even before the 1947 division plan and going all the way to the 200 camp david plans. the question is where do you draw the line? do you support a palestinian state in the 1967 borders ,where both sides get less than what they think is right, or do you see all of Israel as "stolen land" and by that denying its right to exist? you are taking one segment of the citizenship law that was meant to make sure things like the holocause never happen again and you make into "all of the laws" where you know perfectly well that all Israeli citizens are equal by law. Israeli Arabs are 20% of the population, they can vote, get voted and they have members in the parliment. so don't give me this crap about a racist nation, based on a law with very solid historical justification "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." -
i'm not sure if that's what the reporter was talking about but this seems to be a pretty detailed reporting on troops movements and activities. http://www.un.org/News/dh/latest/selectunifil.asp but anyway, i don't make a big deal out of it because: 1) UNIFIL is there to observe and report (and prevent Hizbollah from attacking, which it didn't) 2) Hizbollah has a pretty good intelligence of its own and i doubt it really needs UNIFIL's help.
