Sorry for calling you dense quade. it was a bad pun. but it's late and i'm freezing in montana. And now I apologize to everyone else. let's lift the ban on gay marriage. and on polygamy. and on marriage to children. and to animals. and inanimate objects. YEA! I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. 4. Imagine having some group that tried to pass an Amendment against that lifestyle. You've supplied your own intolerance irony. Our society, and in fact civiliation, is built on the instituation of marriage and the family. And because people like you can't have your way, a way you think in all your 30 or 40 years of wisdom is so much better than so many millions of others, you spew your hate and vitriol towards people who want to preserve the very institution that keeps society healthy. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  5. Red, White and Blue . . . pal . . . with liberty and justice for ALL. Except those that don't share your beliefs... then it's malign and attack. Those are the values of a true patriot, quade and you're displaying them in exemplary style. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  6. Absolutely not. Well, not me anyway. I respect other people and what they believe in (as long as it's not pushed on me). I have a very Catholic family as well. The fact is, your wife is the exception, not the rule. Most people do not follow their religion like your wife, though there are some who do. The part that gets me is that I would put money on the majority of "yes" prop 8 voters to be those people who pick and choose the rules. Thank you for the respect. I'm sorry for lumping you automatically in a category you don't deserve to be in. I'm justifiably very defensive of my beloved wife, she's very dear to me (she is of course, my wife! ). I'm shell-shocked from living in secular society that does not respect the choices we have made and that feels very free to express their disdain in very vocal and rude ways towards us and our peers. Unfortunately there are too many people who are as you describe. I would however be hesitant to say that "most" of them are as you say. Maybe it's the eternal optimist of my wife coming through. 7. every side has sponsors, if by sponsor you mean the people/organizations who are ponying up the funds either side. Nice, quade nice. True colors showin on through pal. Same old story. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  8. Is what I said not true? How many people do you know that are religious who have had sex before marriage? Who have gotten divorced? Who have had children out of wedlock? Catholics who use contraception? Yet most of them are against gay marriage because it's "wrong in the eyes of the church". People want to call themselves religious and faithful yet they only pick and choose with "rules" they feel like following. My wife did not have sex before marriage. She has never used contraception. She's never been divorced. While she enjoys a good glass of wine, she has never abuse alcohol or drugs. She is, by far, one of the happiest, most joyfilled persons I have ever met in my life. The same with all of her sisters. Same with many of our Catholic friends. However, I have no doubt that you or perhaps someone else may make some disparaging remark about my wife, her siblings or some of our friends. Still, the truth is what it is. I know these people. That is not the same with me. I'm a former drug addict who was a complete man-whore before I discovered faith. True about many of my friends. The difference between this group and the former group is that we believe in change. That people can make mistakes in life but later correct those mistakes and live better lives. The stories of recovering addicts are perfect examples here. However, if a person is "overly" religious, you would perfer to call them a hypocrite. There is a third group who does in fact pick and chose what tenets of their religious they want to follow, all the while condemning others for their choices in life. I have nothing but contempt for such people. That sort of cafetia-religiousity, that lukewarm banality is nauseating and indeed is something to be condemned. However, it is an injustice to brand EVERY person of faith with that brush. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  9. Really? How about Prop 22? I have a feeling that you're like a lot of people that don't have a freekin' clue how conservative a lot of California is. BTW, do you have any idea who the main sponsors of the proposal were? Hmmm. In spite of your often antagonistic tone, I'll respond by say that in comparison to many, many other states in the union, California is considered pretty liberal. And yes, I know exactly who the sponsors on both sides were. It's public record. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  10. How predictable. Prop 8 gets passed and a thread appears in which religious people start getting bashed. I find it very amazing that even in the state of California, a prop 8 was passed. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  11. I haven't read this whole thread. I certainly don't want to see any attempt on Obama's life, or anyone else's for that matter. I was in Chicago Monday and Tuesday on business. While outside O'Hare just north of the Hertz rental return property, I was 50 feet away from the following incident as it happened, from start to finish. I was in a parking lot off of Manheim Blvd eating a cheeseburger from the steak and shake near the office max there. http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1259838,man-arrested-with-guns-ammo-110408.article After you read the article, let me tell you... this sure didn't look like a "routine traffic stop." An unmarked cop car descended on this man in his silver ford taurus from out of nowhere, and stopped him in the middle of Manheim Blvd, just north of the Allstate Arena. The man, a tall white man, was immediately handcuffed and put in a cruiser that had shown up. In no time, there was a large number of marked and unmarked cars. The rapidity of their response was impressive. Officers tore his car apart looking for stuff. The gun they took out of his car was an FN FS2000 tactical rifle and it was hidden behind his rear seat. I also saw the laptop that was taken out of his front seat. Officers gathered around looking the web page that was opened on the screen. I also saw the plastic handcuffs and boxes of ammo from the trunk. This was scary shit, considering the president elect was due to make his appearance just later in the day. Who knows what was on this man's mind. As scary as it was, the response of the Rosemont police was simply incredible. I had my camera with me but pussed out from taking pictures. I was afraid of being detained, having my camera confiscated or missing my flight to Montana, where I am tonight, freezing my damn ass off. I know this is long, but one last comment. There are some crazy assholes in our country and I don't doubt that someone or several someones will attempt to take out our new president elect. However, the Secret Service just kicks ass and I'm sure they will do everything to protect Obama and will, in all likelihood, succeed. edited to fix clicky, i hope. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. 12. Has nothing to do with Christian values. I'm an Episcopalian and I'm going to stand up and say enough of the broad swipes against Christians in general. We're not all assholes. I'm also an ex-Catholic (born into it) and simply think that some of these Catholic Dioceses should be prosecuted under the RIOOH laws as organized criminal enterprises for the shell game they're playing to hide pedophile clergy AND their assets. That said, I'd also like to point out that a Protestant minister, once one of Dr MLK Jr's aids, was recently convicted of fucking his own teenage daughter - something that disgusts every cell of my Christian mind and body. So it's not just a Catholic problem either, though they've been getting most of the press. It has to do with the abuse of power, authority, and trust. It also happens with doctors, psychologists, cops, teachers. judges, and politicians. Just don't paint ME with the same brush ! Some us actually TRY to live like Christians. Excellent post! Simply excellent! I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  13. I don't really know. I hesitate to say it's all due to the (largely) liberal media, but I bet that has something to do w/ it. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
  14. Because, for the most part, the Democrats don't hold themselves as being "above" human foibles. We Democrats are not "proud" of it, but we realize it happens. On the other hand . . . when certain Republicans claim moral authority . . . it's hilarious to see them as we all really are. I can't say whether or not Rep. Mahoney claimed any moral authority. I don't follow district politics in states that far away from my own. Just doing some searches on the web, it looks like Mahoney mostly won because most people thought he was unopposed (since it was too late to put Nagron's name on the ballot). Got any links? You said that for the most part, the Democrats don't hold themselves as being "above" human foibles. Well, Mahoney did. Bottom line is that both parties are mired in a bunch of hypocritical shit but dems typically aren't called on it b/c they usually don't preach against it, is that what y'all are saying? What a load of hooey. Links about Mahoney and his family values campaigning. http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/report-mahoney-paid-off-mistress-2008-10-13.html http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081017/ap_on_el_ho/mahoney_investigation http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/chronicle/6065214.html I miss Lee. 15. So, I don't come around that often anymore, which is a good thing. I find I'm much happier not being around all of the same back and forth nonsense that poses for debate on here. Not much has changed in the past [enter any number] years. That having been said, when I saw the story on Rep. Mahoney in Florida, I just had to come back here and see what sort of coverage it got on SC. I found one thread. One. Here is a liberal democrat who replaced a scumbag republican. Mahoney ran on family values and gets caught cheating with not one but two women. Where's the outrage? Where are the right wingers wagging their fingers and calling the leftists out for their own party members hypocrisy? When it happens to a republican, it seems, at least to me, that people just can't shut up about how much of a low life the "God's Own Party" asshole is and how all GOP'ers are hypocrites and the like. But when it's a democrat, why the virtual silence? Or is it just b/c y'all just can't stop talking about the other two asshat politicians who are bucking for the seat in the oval office? I dunno, they pretty much are all liars if you ask me. I have yet to meet (figuratively speaking of course) a politician or a political candidate who is constitutionally capable of NOT distorting his or her opponents views, values, plans, etc. for his or her own benefit. "McSame" and "Nobama" both have been shown to be incapable of really representing what they will do for us or what their opponent really stands for. Ugh, what a system we have. I know it's the one we have and it's worked pretty good so far, but this time around sure has become pretty trying. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  17. I'm sure millions of people are viewing DZ.com right now, have read me calling her trailer trash and are now changing their vote. The sad fact is that there are SO MANY like you on the left who are trying so desperately to vilify her. So while you are correct that your one little voice here on dizzy is one of insignificance, collectively, your vitriolic voices are galvanizing the republican party. They are rallying behind her and behind McCain. There is an energy there that hasn't been there that you and your ilk are only adding fuel to, so I say, keep it up. That's rich. Have a look at Snopes to see the extent of (false) vilification of Obama, and compare it with McCain. The ratio is around 20:1, We've even had blatantly false information posted in this thread by normiss, and he continues to defend it even when given non-partisan proof of its falsehood. Why weren't you speaking out when Obama was being vilified? b/c these posts are my first time back to this forum in many, many months. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  19. Most Christians I know are against war, but there is also just war theory, which a lot of Christians espouse. I wouldn't call Christians who believe in just way theory "warmongers." I would agree w/ you that a lot of Christians of the U.S. variety may be far too quick to take up the military option to advance political ends instead of truly embracing their faith and living the Christian idela of peace. While it is sometimes necessary to use force to defend oneself (which would also include one's family, town, country) there's a big difference b/t defending and attacking. I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...

  21. She a well-dressed piece of trailer trash ... and the fact that you feel you are qualified to say that about her says what about you and your character, exactly? hint: see lawrocket's post immediately following yours for starters. Grow thick skin, this is politics. this isn't about me. this is about you and your character. trying to disguise your predjudices under the guise of "politics" is silly posturing, what you accuse lawrocket of doing. nothing that you've said insults or offends me, it just makes me sad that the are actually people out there who actually believe and act the way you do. 23. Based on a poll here on SC, it appears that most people disagree with her ideas on abortion. I suspect most disagree with her ideas on sex ed. too. She IS on the extreme right. Most people here...hardly a real world setting. Opinion polls of voters routinely indiate that over 80% of Americans think abortion should be legal in cases of rape or incest. Palin is WAY out of line on this. Opinion polls of WHICH voters, exactly? That figure sure seems a bit high... I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
