Fucking disgusting use of casualties for political points. Par for the course for you, however. BTW, the casualty count will tend to go up when you're acually prosecuting a war, as Obama promised to do. - Dan G

And the conservative/fascist faction wants every Joe Sixpack to believe he will one day be a multi-millionaire and the only thing holding him back is the progressive tax code and the goddam liberals. The neocons want people to believe this because they need people to vote against their own self-interest. By the way, I don't actually believe that, but I thought I'd throw out an equally stupid argument to counter yours. - Dan G

I don't skydive anymore because of politics, spending too much time standing over hospital beds, and just not digging it anymore. In short, the DZ was no longer my happy place, so I found a new happy place. - Dan G

You're right. Questioning the messenger is only acceptable when the messenger is NASA, and the message is global warming. - Dan G

When I said I wanted more example, I meant I wanted more examples, not a repeat of your position on the ACA. Do you have any other examples of Obama giving handouts? - Dan G

The BP oil spill was a man-made disaster. I guarantee if Obama had rushed in and spent a bunch of money on the clean-up, you'd be criticizing him for that. The drought is more analogous to Katrina. As someone who abhors government spending and handouts, what do you think Obama should be doing regarding the drought? - Dan G

I don't think the far left has as much influence over the Democratis Party as the far right has over the Republicans. I used to vote straight Republican. I voted for Oliver North, for God's sake. After I began to see that all the Republican candidates had to conform to the exact same mold (pro-life, devout Christian, anti-gay, tax pledge signing, hawkish) I started looking elsewhere. I will not vote for someone who is afraid to speak his mind. I wanted to vote for McCain. Actually, I wanted to vote for 2000 McCain. 2008 McCain got sucked into the machine. - Dan G

If you don't want to defend your beliefs, just say so. Yes, please. - Dan G

I never said only religious Republicans were against gay marriage. Here are two statements, can you guess which one is closest to what I said: 1. All people against gay marriage are religious Repulicans. 2. All religious Republicans are against gay marriage. And here's a bonus statement: There are vanishingly small numbers of Republicans who favor gay marriage and are pro-choice. (Hint: the bonus statement is actually what I said.) - Dan G

We have the same problem now, but it's just backdoored in. I agree that reducing the cost of healthcare would be great, but despite its name, the ACA is about health insurance, not healthcare. That would be great, too. I'm trying to get at what you think Obama has done to give people handouts. Repeating this line is not an answer. - Dan G

Do you really believe the right religious fringe has not taken over the Republican party? How many pro-choice, pro-gay rights Republicans can you name? Hardcore 'Christian' values are the bar for entry into Republican politics. - Dan G

The main tax in the ACA is the tax on people who can afford health insurance, but choose not to. In that way, I suppose you're right, it taxes people who can afford health insurance. On the other hand, the beneficiary is not people who can't afford health insurance, it is people who can (and do). Right now we have to pay higher insurance premiums to cover people who don't have insurance. Making everyone get insurance should help reduce that burden on those of us with insurance. - Dan G

I don't remember seeing that, but I'm sure it is possible. My understanding was that they were allowing states to apply for waivers, including changing what they could use for the work requirement. - Dan G
-
How does it do that? - Dan G
-
What has Obama does in this vein? I'm sure some will say the ACA, but that's not at all what it does. It forces people to buy private health insurance if they can afford it, and subsidizes private health insurance for those who can't. I fail to see how that is making anyone dependant on government. I suppose the other thing conservatives may point out is the HHS proposal to allow waivers for some work requirements to receive welfare. Please keep in mind, all this proposal does is allow state governments to apply for specific waivers, it does not remove the federal work requirement. Please also keep in mind, Romney was in favor of such waivers before he was against them. I see more of that from the conservative side than from Obama. I agree it is wrong. - Dan G

Those positions are not at all contradictory. - Dan G

We go to war in the Middle East to maintain our standing with Saudi Arabia, and other oil exporting countries, and to ensure free flow of trade in the gulf and through the Suez Canal. The main commodity we care about in that region is oil. Some people shorthand this as, "war for oil," which is not all that accurate. In addition to free access to the oil market, for reasons that are beyond me, we also feel that defending Israel regardless of the cost is in our national interest. This one stumps me, but it is political suicide to suggest Israel can do any wrong, so we stick with it. - Dan G

I admit it's not a perfect analogy, but I think people tend to forget that both government and markets are made up of people. People generally look out for their perceived self-interest, so absolute trust in either one is foolish. As far as dealing with a bad market, mobility is not always practical. You pretty much have to deal with the banking, oil, and real estate industries. Those industries are becoming dominated by fewer and fewer companies, with greater and greater power. Markets only work when there is mobility and competition. I think we're seeing less of both. - Dan G
-
I don';t favor government over markets (except for such things as justice, military protection, regulation, etc.) but I'd like to point out that your statement makes as much sense if you reverse the nouns: - Dan G

I don't understand why anyone would keep a $35M business as a personal asset. Shouldn't the property be in the name of a business? Unless I'm vastly mistaken, there is no tax due when the current CEO of a business passes the reins to someone else, be it his next of kin or otherwise. - Dan G

I prefer to buy cars that don't need multiple repairs within the first year of ownership. - Dan G

If you really believe this stuff, I suggest you take a step back and try to look at it with new eyes. Obama is not evil. He has no nefarious plan to control the masses, make the US communist, or take your women. Neither does Romney. They are both flawed men who will and are trying their best. They have slightly different ideas about taxes and government spending. Their views on abortion, gay rights, and immigration are different. Their ideas about foreign policy are the same but with some rhetorical tweaks. Otherwise, like most of the people in the US, they are essentially identical. - Dan G

How is projection at all related to liberal beliefs? And if it is, how can devoted conservatives like yourself possibly be guilty of it? I think you're trying to be funny, but I've lost the thread. - Dan G

And you think liberals are the ones who blame their own problems on others. - Dan G
