  1. I lived in Alaska for seven years. My two favorite things (besides skiing) was watching the Fur Rendevous races and the Iditarod. Libby Riddles, the first woman to win the Iditarod, was a customer of mine. She was a cool lady -- very laid back and outdoorsy. You didn't hear much from her after she won. One of the reasons is I think she didn't like the publicity. Susan Butcher on the other hand, ate it up. Poor old Rick Swensen, he was the greatest musher in Alaska until these ladies came and stole his thunder. steveOrino
  2. It's Friday - new strip is up Just a reminder to get you guys use to checking on Mondays and Fridays steveOrino
  3. I'm not sure, but I think it loses quality when it captures from RCA cords as opposed to firewire. steveOrino
  4. I haven't seen one yet that has but maybe I'm just looking at the wrong videos or vidiot. BTW If the computer doesn't crash ... (a big IF at times) I can edit non-linear in 20-30 minutes. not an hour. A while back there was a gal vidiot who said they edited non-linear in 10 minutes. How? I don't know. It might be worth a search on these forums. steveOrino
  5. Its a small DZ - Sissy & Dink pack -- so does Rooster at times. steveOrino
  6. As a political cartoonist -- I hope so!
  7. I guess the responses surprised me. I expected to see more non-linear set ups. This is 2006 man, not the 80s! Oh well, speed wins over quality I guess. steveOrino
  8. Yeah, that kind of puts my "bad days" into prespective. steveOrino
  9. I drew up a DZ cartoon based on your signature line for Skydiving magazine. I don't know if they will publish it or not. If they don't I'll put it up on my site. I was experimenting with adding real images with the cartoons. It was just an experiement. I prefer the more traditional look. But the idea is funny. steveOrino
  10. I enjoy thinking and writing them. But trying to find the time is difficult!!! The strip started with Dink and Zeus (thus DZ's play on words) but slowly but surely Rooster, Floyd, Sissy and Spunky have taken over. Jack, which is really me, is hard to write for believe it or not. The afore mentioned skydivers tend to write their own dialogue. I just eavesdrop. steveOrino
  11. uh, don't watch TV -- read a book, duh! steveOrino

Wow! Thanks -- Now I won't be lost next week. I really appreciate that! In previous years they'd rerun the show on a Sunday or Friday. Too bad they don't do that now. All they rerun now is earlier seasons. Thanks again! steveOrino

  15. Welcome to America! Your English is WAY better than my Polish! Show your log book, be ready to jump with an instructor or a coach. How many of those 60 jumps are freefall? In other words, how many are static line and how many are freefall? That may make a difference. steveOrino
  16. One thing I learned in life -- when hobbies become work - they're usually not as much fun. There is always the exception to the rule, but most of the "full time" skydivers don't make much money. They live in trailors and at times in their cars. When they weather sucks, or the plane is down or YOU are down (illness or injury) you don't get paid. You may be one of the FEW who can make a liveable wage skydiving. But usually that is not the case. The must better option is get an education - get a good job and have free time and money to skydive. Or you can earn your way into making the hobby pay for itself. Get ratings, fly video, pack, rig, etc. I've seen way too many people (including myself at times) lose the love we had when we started because our hobby becomes a job. Just my two cents worth. steveOrino
  17. There are always exceptions -- but what is your norm? steveOrino
  18. Karen Lewis (Lewmonst) posted a thread a while back about all the things that can go wrong on a video jump. It was very entertaining and should be required reading for all vidiots. steveOrino
  19. Had to be a couple years ago when my Sony TRV 19 started going to niteswitch by itself. The video was all green ad white when facing the sun. Its th eonly time I had to give money back to the student. Never figured out what was wrong -- I sold it "as is" on Ebay. Some whuffo took a chance on it. steveOrino
  20. me too. I wil check against another computer - firewire and camera when I get home - I will get my editor to come over withis laptop, camera and firewire. Thanks for your help. steveOrino
  21. Tell me more about this plug-in - again computer dumb Thanks for your help and suggestions steveOrino
  22. Maybe it is symantics (sp?) but I think my problem would be with "capturing" the video not "importing it" but I'll check when I get home from work. steveOrino
  23. They get it ALL back. The DZO is a former camera man and knows first had "stuff happens", so he wouldn't charge me for the slot. steveOrino
  24. I have Premiere 6.0 -- no problems until tonight. The computer at the DZ was freaking out and crashing so I decided to take the videos home to edit. The original looks fine but premiere is getting glitches, bars and other "digital" looking crap when I capture. I switched firewire cables - same problem. I uninstalled premiere and reinstall it -- same problem. Ay ideas? steveOrino
