Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian
steveorino replied to gjhdiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Just humor me if you will. Let's say I come to you as an agnostic. Can you prove to me with undeniable evidence that God does NOT exist? steveOrino -
Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian
steveorino replied to gjhdiver's topic in Speakers Corner
You're missing my point. Some things cannot be proven to exist w/o an element of faith. How can I prove to my wife of 32 years I love her? I can offer "evidence" such as many years of faithfulness, expensive jewelry, etc, but she could explain all that away if she wanted to. Some where in the equation she has to accept in faith that I love her. To me there is a similarity with proving God exist. He can offer evidence (such as the order of the universe and fulfilled prophecies) but I have the choice to "write it off" or accept it. That is simply called faith. steveOrino -

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

How? Read the emphasis I placed in original statement. It is sufficient for my "belief." Only because you choose not to think about the logical fallacy in that belief. Where is the fallacy in believing the world is too orderly to be random? I think it it is a good and reasonable observation. Maybe you don't but I hardly see my belief that the order of the world dictates a divine creator as being illogical. steveOrino -
Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

Ermmm correct me if im wrong..... but there is NO evidence what so ever..... thats why its called "blind faith" 1. where is the holy grail? 2. where is the arc of the covenant??? 3. Noah arc perhaps??? I don't try to prove God. He doesn't need my help. 1. Holy grail is a legend, never mentioned in the Bible 2. The arc of the covenant disappears from scripture around the captivity of Judah by the Bablylonians. It was probably melted down. 3. Ararat? Perhaps??? What evidence can you give that God doesn't exist? steveOrino -

IMHO - You are right, Bill, but too many of us on both sides of the spectrem want to put Him in a box, whether it be Bible, dogma, etc. steveOrino -

You're right, it is what I BELIEVE. Unlike the other poster who made an empirical statment that there is no proof God exists. steveOrino -

While I believe you have the right to believe or disbelieve whatever you want, this is where I think your argument fails. I believe the order of the universe speaks of a master designer. However, I do not believe I can completely comprehend him. IF there was a God who could speak and create the world into existent, I'd have to be pretty arrogant to believe i should be able to figure Him out 100% EDITED TO ADD While I consider myself a Christian (a follower of Jesus Christ) I do not consider myself a fundamentalist by any stretch. steveOrino -

There is zero objective evidence that prayer works, and some evidence that in some cases it has a negative effect. www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2006/04.06/05-prayer.html Harvard doesn't believe in prayer. Wow! You could have blown me away with that one! I wonder why Duke Medical University says it does? http://www.dukemednews.duke.edu/news/article.php?id=5056 steveOrino -
She is an awesome woman! 4 kids, 2 grandkids, 6 states, 12 cities, and numerous "careers" we have shared a lot of experiences, but that one jump will always be a favorite! steveOrino

Deterioration of skydiving
steveorino replied to hymandd732's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You're woefully misinformed if you believe "cripple" is a preferred term by those who are disabled. I'm not a PC person. It galls me to write articles for APA I have to use gender neutral language. So, no, I have not fallen into that trap. However, I feel the original poster was displaying his lack of humanity(not lack of PC) inusing the word "cripple" as a derogatory term. Reread his original post and replace "cripple" with any word (women, blacks, etc) and see if it doesn't read as he implies he as an able bodied skydiver is so much better than them. He may have not meant it that way, but that is the wayit comes across to many. steveOrino -
Dude! I haven't seen it! I can't wait now. Thanks for the heads up! My wife is the greatest! Her only flaw is she has been married to me for 32 years. steveOrino

emphasis mine What an IDIOTIC response! It seems in your "41" years you have learned little about other things besides "skydiving". Cripples skydiving ... yeah, next thing you know the darkies and jews will want to skydive. edied to add: I'd love for you to call Dana Bowman (fellow Green Beret) and double amputee he is a "cripple" steveOrino -

Use some old movie, for a theme like ... The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly (students & mishaps) Dog Day Afternoon (swwoping the ponds) Taxi Driver (tandems) You can use the movies music & stuff. Might be cool. It gives ME an idea anyhoo. steveOrino -
You've seen one too many porno movies. It ain't the same. If you're homophobic, ask for a Tandem Instructor of the opposite sex, geesh. steveOrino

Based on parents/grandparents names I guess I am part English (Phelps & Homer) ? Irish (Mires) ? German (Fleenor)? Scandanavian (Anderson)? steveOrino

tandem video using videographer in one plane, tandem in another
steveorino replied to pchapman's topic in Instructors
Biggest problem I see is you will most likely have one good video (hopefully) and one video that would suck (no exit footage, limited face time). Yet, they will each pay the same price for the video. That is a recipe for an unhappy customer. steveOrino -

Many moons ago (1978) I remember sitting on the tarmac in a C130 at Pope AFB. It was 100+ degrees that day. One dude puked and that started a chain of pukers. steveOrino
