  1. Dead people call you? Cool! Sometimes people undergoing great trials in life call medical doctors, psychiatrists, etc. and other technically trained individuals. Been to a lot of funerals, but never seen a doctor or pyschiatrists or other "technically trained" people perform a funeral. Of course my response was in your swipe that I should pray for the light to come on. steveOrino
  2. So, it is your assessment they are worse off finding comfort in God and a church? steveOrino
  3. Most of the people I know that describe themselves as "born again" did so in their youth. In fact statistics say over 85% of "born againers" become that way before they are 15 years old. You must run with some hard luck born againers. steveOrino
  4. A noted psychologist, (an agnostic) Irvin Yalom, said it is unwise to replace someone's death denial mechanism if you do not have something better to replace it with. steveOrino
  5. I'm not sure why you're trying to poke at me, but I'll play. When people die, or go through a great trial in life, they call me (a minister) they don't call engineers or scientists. steveOrino
  6. How do you know? No trace of it remains. Yeah? What are the Jews praying beside? The wall of Herod's temple. No trace of Solomon's remains. Doh! You're right. Herod built walls around the original Temples. Hey, my OT survey class was a long time ago! steveOrino
  7. They were busy writing the greatest theological books to this date. steveOrino
  8. How do you know? No trace of it remains. Yeah? What are the Jews praying beside? steveOrino
  9. Correct, so I wouldn't lump all people of this age with the mentality of those jungle tribes. Solomon's Temple was a great work that was performed by intelligent men. steveOrino
  10. Keep us informed. My youngest son (21 yo) has AS. I'm pretty sure he'd balk at a skydive, but I'd like to hear your reaction. steveOrino
  11. Then why are these scientist butting in? steveOrino
  12. I agree. My take on the Bible it is a reliable source for a man to discover how to be "whole" sometimes translated as "saved". I do not believe it to be a complete, unbiased source of history, science or even genealogy. Obviously, I am NOT a fundamental Christian. steveOrino
  13. My bad, I thought we were talking about God. steveOrino
  14. Me too. I'm anal that way, I guess. steveOrino
  15. Cosmologists and physicists have a pretty good idea what happened after the first trillionth of a trillionth of a second (10^-24 seconds). Before that, none that I know... That's the stuff that Stephen Hawking works on. So we have a pretty good handle on 15 billion years but are not sure about the first micro-nano-nano-second. Maybe some supernatural being induced creation of our universe, saw that it was running by the rules, and went off to create new universes elsewhere. Maybe it was just a quantum fluctuation. One thing is for sure: neolithic folks from 3,000 years ago did NOT have a better handle on things than we do. Do you think we should't ask about that first nano second? If so, who could answer it better, a professor of physics or a theologian? BTW, don't be so arrogant. Some of these neolithic people who wrote the Bible were contemporaries of those who built the seven ancient wonders of the world. steveOrino
  16. What are those rules, and how do they address origin? steveOrino
  17. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer than I'd feel presumptious to understand and know all of why God does what He does. steveOrino
  18. What does the order of the universe say? steveOrino
  19. Jews never have and never will glorify a man who died as a criminal. Had Christ died in a public revolt, he would have been honored, but not deified. Americans don't honor glorify Jihad terrorist who blow themsleves up in the name of God. Nor would a greek/roman glorify a teacher who died as a criminal. See what I mean? steveOrino
  20. If objectable proof is only a giant cross in the sky, yep, you're right. But to others it is the order of the universe, prophecies fulfilled, and the immeasureable presence we feel in our spirit. steveOrino
  21. A man who died a criminal death would be god?? steveOrino
  22. I'd love to hear some logical, well thought out responses to a question or two I have about biblical prophesy. I'm not very interested in "the Bible says it, that's good enough for me", or the many links to atheist's website. Sorry Hairy. Psalms 22 is a psalm that graphically describes a crucifiction. Conservative dates would be a 1000 years before Christ, well before crucifiction was common practice. More liberal dates around 500-150 BC would put it in the same time period of crucifiction. However, there is no time frame (apart from post Christ) that crucifiction would be considered part of a Jewish Messiah's plan. To the Jews it would be heresy and to the Greeks/Romans it would be laughable. If the crucifiction was predicted 150-1000 years before Christ (when crucifiction would in no way be logical for a Jewish messiah) would that give credibility to the crucifiction of Jesus and His disciples story about His death? steveOrino
  23. The very definition of a supreme being would make Him doing the impossible ... possible.
