  1. IMHO, numbers only give part of the story. I want someone who can fly their body without thinking, be very safety conscious, who will listen to me, who won't freak my student out with their stories, and knows where to fly (low and in front) to get a good shot. If they can do that before 500 ... fine (most likely it takes 300+ jumps to obtain those skills, and those jumps are better spent doing RW and coaching, not free-flying or hop n pop swoops) If they have 1000 jumps and can't do that, I won't allow them to jump with me and my student. steveOrino
  2. I have yet to figure out why people want to do the minimum when it comes to skydiving. Or worse ... less than minimum steveOrino
  3. It worked like a charm. It got a piece of my altimeter in canopy shot, but other wise it was very good -- Very overcast day too. steveOrino
  4. I added the lens protector and moved an anchor strap so I can see the light. steveOrino
  5. I made mine with a $5 golf glove and spare velcro. I like Rhys idea about securing a lens protector. I will do that as well as find a hole punch and put a hole in the strap that is covering the indicator light. The glove has a hook velcro pad on top and the camera is covered in pile velcro. The camera also is held down by a strap that covers the entire camera (hard to see in pics) This is the PERFECT glove/camera to take on non-video tandems or even AFF. I usually can sell a disk of 25-35 pics for $20 easily. Sorry for the crappy pix -- my iphone sux as a camera! steveOrino
  6. Give them the Queen one time and they retreat ... typical! steveOrino
  7. I play online hearts and thump on the French until they quit (usually doesn't take long ... go figure) Is that bad? steveOrino
  8. I'm doing tandems and AFFs at Skydive Tulsa steveOrino
  9. What do you do when you are the only bird at your DZ and you work there as AFFI and TI and you can't get away to other DZs very often? I took up my GoPro and took pics of my favorite subject ... me. I used Karen Lewis' ghetto setup . The wing turned the camera down most of the time so I have an idea that will allow me to take pix of myself easily and also adjust it to take pix of a fellow bird if I ever get one. steveOrino
  10. Sure it does, unless your patriotism or faith is unexamined. The Declaration of Independence is the source document that spells out the principles the United States was founded on. If those principles are altered, how can you still be a patriot in the same way? If John 3:16 was changed to: For God so loved the world that he gave them beer so they could drink and be merry, the underlying meaning is completely changed, as would be your faith. That's why it really is important. I think I get what you're saying - that you are a patriot no matter if some people are able to change a few words around and that's great. The point I'm making is that if we continue to change things here and there as a matter of convenience to the belief of the day, generations down the road there will be a disconnect. I think we're already seeing it to some degree today. The pledge has been changed at least 4-5 times. Did those changes altar your patriotism. I'll repeat what I said earlier. "To me" and maybe only me ... it is much to ado about nothing. If someone changes the pledge, the declaration, the bible, it does not alter me unless I want it to. Just MY opinion. steveOrino
  11. Changing words doesn't change my patriotism or my faith in God. steveOrino
  12. my point exactly steveOrino
  13. And I would guess that's because it fits into your beliefs. I would prefer that we preserve American history regardless of what our beliefs are. ETA - How would you feel about the opposite - removing all references to god or creator from the Declaration of Independence? The same ... they are but words ... important words, but words. Saying "under God" doesn't make it so. Taking out "Creator" doesn't make us any less of a creation. steveOrino
  14. IMHO ... much to do about nothing steveOrino
  15. The Declaration of Independence exists today as it was written, the pledge does not. You're right. Many words have been added since it was first written by a Baptist minister in 1892. So? steveOrino
  16. I'm not aware of any reference to Christ in the pledge. yes, there is a reference to "God" the same reference that is in the Declaration of Independence. If references to God and a Creator were okay for it, why not the pledge? steveOrino
  17. And you make it easy for us "old turds" to like you too!?!?! steveOrino
  18. In other words I get to pay for mine AND his ... that is nice. :P NOTHING is "free" It cost someone. steveOrino
  19. Love AFF! This jump was one of the times I get to wear my FAST suit. steveOrino
  20. That aint screaming, THIS is screaming! steveOrino
  21. Yeah, I would try looking at a dropzone, I've heard skydivers hang out there. This is a team activity, your first team will be you and your instructors. Get good enough that they kick you off the team, and then worry about finding a new team. You're not funny. So whoever told you that you were lied to you.
