We couple look at the timeframe for each of the last dozen Presidents, separated by party. We could... especially if we were having a civil discussion on the subject... instead of one person posting a news excerpt and the other inferring a bunch of nonsense from it.

Amazing to hear the masses saying that they would leave the US
NCclimber replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in Speakers Corner
I didn't really think so, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway. Just because the hermit thinks everyone out plotting to steal his nuts and berries, that doesn't mean they are. Nevertheless, he still views everyone with suspicion. -

Actually, I'm saying to address what people are actually talking about, instead of resorting to generic name calling. -

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2856477#2856477 OOPS .. Where'd yall go to school there.......... I was talking about something outside this forum. Actually I was thinking of Democrat Underground, a pretty fucking hostile place to people who don't tow the hard left party line. You, on the otherhand, label the people on this site, who don't see things your way, as rightwing, neocon, Bush lovers, who only get their info from Lush Rimjob or implying they'd be happier living under a fascist regime. It's fairly common for your posts to contain derogatory stereotypes. All too frequently, these stereotypes have little (if anything) to do with the context of the discussion. I bet I could find 20 examples of you using these negative stereotypes before you could find four by me. Hope this clears things up for you. -
Did you try that approach in high school English or any college writing course? Citation is a given practice, both there and here. It's hardly new to you, so again I question the motivations. You made a claim. I posted information, that is easily available, with no commentary about it. You, in turn, reply with: What would your high school English teacher say about your response? Oh yeah, sourcing work on a college paper is mandatory. Comparing posts here to that practice is just silly. About all that other stuff - comparing government spending/deficits to the same from 12 months ago is not unusual.... and if you want to look at the health of the stock market, look at several timeframes, not just the one comparing now to the last historic top.

While I completely agree that modern soil conservation efforts would have made the disaster less extreme, I don't buy into your claim they would have resulted in the droughts of the 30s being non-event. Your claim is the first time I've ever heard as much.

And what terms of endearment to YOU use to describe those who are not goose stepping along to YOUR ideology. I'm not sure what you are talking about? IMO applying negative stereotypes to those who have a differing opinion is an indication of poor intellect. -

If I was an athiest I would have an ideology, but I am an agnostic. Agnostics do not have an ideology. We just do not know if there is or isn't a God and we sure as hell don't base our foreign policy based on the voices we want to hear in our heads on some mythical devine God which can not be proved to exist or can not be proved to not exist. Impressive. -
Nice PA, Bill. It would have earned me an official warning, no doubt. I can't help it if your posts contradict one another. Not much room for misinterpretation. Your resorting to PAs speaks for itself. What exactly did you mean when you said: "The poor land management that caused it (the Dust Bowl disaster of the 30s) could have been avoided, which would have made the drought (which happens periodically) a non-event." I'm particularly interested in the part about making the drought (of the 30s), which was actually several back-to-back droughts, a non-event.

I don't have a "special" mirror. No need. Hope yours doesn't break. -

I think I know what I am (besides being a tad crazy ). I am a fiscal conservative and someone who sits somewhere near the center when it comes to social issues. Your regular use of labels like "burble thumper" and neocon do little to support your self-described ideology. -

True. Beauty is only skin deep. Ugly goes to the bone. -
Seems like "Should Gitmo close?" would be a more fitting thread title.

Me neither. Oddly, a number of people point their finger at me... for actions of my government... that I oppose. -
I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
NCclimber replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
And there is no benefit to the population from developing new cures for terminal diseases? Of course there is a benefit. What new cures have come through embryonic stemcell research? What percentage of researchers say it is an area of huge potential? I don't know. How about answering my questions. -

The difference being that all the examples you list there is a direct, tangible benefit to the populations they serve. Note: I consider tax payer funded stadiums, ballparks and arenas built primarily for a professional team to be gross examples of corporate welfare... abuses of government authority. -
I think we have seen by his DEEDS who Mr Bush really is. Blaming Bush for doctors and the medical community supposedly fighting all legalization of euthanasia initiatives because legalizing it would hurt their incomes??? That's rich.

How can we - you don't give a source. Then ask for a source. Tried that some 60 posts ago. Didn't work. And which post are you talking about, in which you asked for the source of the quoted article?

Or a child other than your own. But they do have the same basic protections! My point exactly, fetuses should have some of the same protections as children. How many parents are in jail for circumcising their boys? Obtuse analogies aren't worth countering. This one's right up their with cabbies being forced to allow explosives in their cab.

All you have to do is look at who opposes the Death With Dignity Law that I voted for when I lived in Oregon. Rather then just letting someone in great pain and suffering pass on.. the doctors and medical community..fight it tooth and nail... why.. FOLLOW the MONEY... they make money.. the drug companies make even more money on t he stuff that purports to deaden the excruciating pain. Then all you have to do is see WHICH politicians support the drug lobby.. GEE its SHRUB and his right wing NEO-CONS.. heavily invested in pharmacuticals.. gee go figure. Of course, proving these sinister, ulterior motives is quite different than merely claiming they exist.

How can we - you don't give a source. Then ask for a source. Generally speaking, it's more constructive than resorting to ad hominem attacks and projecting onto the other person one's interpretation of their underlying motivation for quoting an article. Ask for a link. It's common practice to do so when reporting government numbers, i.e. housing starts, foreclosures, new jobs, interest rates, trade imbalance, consumer sentiment, manufacturing, government spending, the budget deficit, etc. It looks pretty good for the last three years. The three years before that? Not so good.

Funny, here it sounds like you are saying as much:

I think his point was differing opinions are tolerated on the conservative websites and it's the liberal ones don't tolerate anyone not towing the party line.
