Are the recent highs in the DOW just a sign of inflation?
NCclimber replied to AdamLanes's topic in Speakers Corner
Oh! I thought it was "real revenues have NOT gone up." You're too much! I do love how you magically link statements to suit your fancy. LOL -

Sorry about that. The chart is of monthly bars. The black ones are for the Dow. The purple ones are for the Dollar index. While the Dow has been strong, so has the FTSE and other overseas indexes. -
Which question? You kind of launched a barrage of them at me? And how about responding in the relavent thread, so we don't continue to tie up this one.
-
Kind of like it's logical for people to automatically question the backer of a study if it's findings run counter to their previously held beliefs?
-
You mean the one where you took on a decidedly antagonistic tone because I don't wholeheartedly embrace your beliefs? Did you know honey is a preferred way to attract flies?

Are the recent highs in the DOW just a sign of inflation?
NCclimber replied to AdamLanes's topic in Speakers Corner
Right now yes. But what about 5 years from now? For the last four years (and especially the last seven) foreing dollars in the Dow hasn't been that great. IOW Right now... and for the last seven years. -
Would this be an example of hypocrisy?
-
While you've shown me so much in the ways of ducking and running, I'm still just a humble neophyte by comparison. You've put on another fine show in this thread. Can't you help yourself?

You know, jenfly, you make a good solid argument and then you piss away the high ground with a bunch of emotional, ideological blather. Bummer. -
Are the recent highs in the DOW just a sign of inflation?
NCclimber replied to AdamLanes's topic in Speakers Corner
Without any doubt whatsoever. But, I don't think it is due to inflation. I think the low US$ is causing a large increase in foreign investors buying on the US markets. The combination of a stock market gain combined with a exchange rate gain can be very lucrative. But the exchange rate continues to work against foreign investors. The falling dollar offsets gains in the stock market. -

By time honored measures, like the major indexes, unemployment, inflation and GDP, we're doing pretty good. Not fantastic, but pretty darn good. Since you seem to think the declining dollar is indicative of a much more dire economy, why don't you tell us why it's so horrible. Please don't dodge this question repeatedly and then come back with a bunch of conditional parameters what were not in your original claim. That whole business of making a blanket statement and then saying what you really meant was blah, blah, blah is so lame. -
Maybe people who would remain virgins until age 25 are 4 times as likely to pledge. Maybe not.

UC Irvine Law School - Yet Another Example of Govt. Priorities

Yes, if the waiting list is so long, then candidates will also pay higher tuition too in order to get into the field - this is immediate and local. Of course! Fuckin brilliant! People must be lined up outside your door seeking solutions to major problems. Classy - It WAS your idea I can see you standing outside a burning apartment building, muttering as people scream for help ... 'So what was tying up the natural economic market up to get us to this point? That's the real lesson to learn here. And the lesson learned needs to be applied in other areas so the gov doesn't HAVE to step in later - no matter how much some people love that.' ' I don't understand why we don't have trained firefighters to put out this blaze, afterall, I haven't seen the govt funding the effort in order to stifle firefighters becoming a profession of choice for those that want to be able to make a living at it.' ' ... and all these burned up bodies (bloody nuisance, really), I hope no one expects the government to assume the responsibility to dispose of them. A thriving free market economy should address this need. You socialists need to learn a lesson in reality!' Fries! I said fries, dude! You do paint a colorful picture. -

Well whaddaya know. Last look it was 13,999. -
Really? I'd love to see that study (and specifically, who funded it). All my research says that those things don't work. Your bias is showing. The findings I posted came from a 2005 study by Bearman and Brueckner. I believe it's the same one you referenced above.

Really? How about you posting a direct quote from the OP. OK. From post #1 in this thread: "Mark Drake, of the Republican party in Minnesota, said: "To compare the democratically elected leader of the United States of America to Hitler is an absolute moral outrage which trivialises the horrors of Nazi Germany." From that you thought we should discuss the 2000 election, including the relevance of the SCOTUS and the popular vote? Them's some might fine lures ya got thar. You asked for a direct quote, you got a direct quote. You are only fooling yourself. Can I get you a mirror. LOL Your effort to make this about the 2000 election had nothing to do with content of the OP. It's right up there with CGABJ.

have the tax cuts caused tax revenues to go up?
NCclimber replied to TrophyHusband's topic in Speakers Corner
It is correct. Same as it was when I first made it, months ago. REAL government revenues (after adjusting for inflation and population growth) have declined 4.7% since the end of the Clinton adminstration. The accumulated revenues under the Bush administration are $14.09Trillion, whereas if the revenues during the last Clinton year had continued just at the same level (not even inflating or increasing due to population growth) the accumulated revenue would be $14.18Trillion. So that's what you mean when you wrote: "if the value of the $ and population growth are accounted for..... real revenues have NOT gone up." Silly me for not reading your mind and inferring you meant that if the historic bull market of the 90s had continued, thus generating record revenues year after year, then the sum total of those revenues for the last six years would be greater than actual revenues of the last six years. Silly me for not getting all that from "real revenues have not gone up". -

What statement did you think Kallend was backing up when you posted the following? How did you conclude I was questioning that specific statement? -
As a parent, that's fine if it helps the kid learn what's really important. Where else should kids learn their morals? Surveys say that most people who make abstinence pledges break them a few years later. One study showed pledgers were 3.5 times more likely to remain virgins by age 25 than those who did not pledge. I don't think any of the studies have shown causality.

Hey Bill, You've been defending his statement. Which statement did you think this was about? -

Here's another story of drunken rape. I wonder who will try discounting the severity of this crime? http://wcco.com/topstories/local_story_197225633.html
