  1. Look around SC. Bill seems to be missing the point pretty consistently, today.
  2. Oh. I see. You're adding little caveats to your original points. It seems like you've been taking notes from Perfesser "real revenues have NOT gone up" Kallend. As a factor in whether or not to drill in ANWR??? Which posts? You really should pay attention to what you write. Instead of resorting to stupid word games you could show where I claimed "that we did in fact drill in ANWR and there was only minimal environmental damage"
  3. Does that count as "all those Democrats who predicted vast environmental destruction" I'm pretty sure these guys are Dems. http://www.nrdc.org/land/wilderness/arctic.asp You asked for cites. I produced one, from one of the more vocal opponents of drilling. Do really not think a fair number of the green Democrats were playing the environmental destruction angle? Or are you just up to a little pedantic trollery?
  4. I think it was your condescending inference that anyone who leans to the right is just a mindless sheep, who take everything sprayed by the vocal rightwingers as absolute truth. Or did you mean something different when you wrote:
  5. Really? Who was pushing that point? Does this have anything to do with what I said? Nice reads. What do they have to do with what I have said? No. How'd you get that?
  6. Oh really??? I must have missed those ANWR discussions, where our gas prices in comparison to other countries was the deciding factor. There's a vast difference between vast environmental damage and NO environmental damage.
  7. I was wondering if the reason Bush and Cheney cut Scooter loose, to fend for himself, is because they knew this stuff was in the pipeline and didn't want it to look like they were circling the wagons every time one of this scandals cropped up. Back when Scooter was under investigation I thought it odd that they cut him loose. Now it looks like they were saving their trump card for a bigger hand. Who knows???
  8. My post was in response to: I was trying to address the moral (for lack of a better word) aspect, setting aside the effectiveness aspect. The odds of something working shouldn't determine whether it's the right thing to do.
  9. Should any country or multi-national group insert themselves into situations where gross human rights abuses, like wholesale genocide, are taking place? Rwanda? Mogadishu? Bosnia? Sudan? Should a country's independent sovereignty trumph the global communities judgement as to what is clearly unacceptable?

    Fox News

Looking at Fox's history, it seems like they've always had a portion of it's programing dedicated to the lowest common denominator. Married w/ Children In Living Color America's Most Wanted 90210 - Melrose Place Who Wants To Marry A Millionaire Temptation Island The O'Reilly Show I hate that robot football player they show constantly throughout NFL broadcasts.
  11. More than Communism? Or the Third Reich? I did not know that. Communism has had about 90 years, the Third Reich had less than 15. Christianity and the semitic faiths have been operating for just a tiiiiiiiny bit longer than that. Still shocked? Perhaps some death totals could shed some light on it. How about a figure of 94 million deaths for Communism?
  12. Ah yes, the three Abrahamic faiths. Responsible for more death, oppression, and useless guilt than any other human invention. More than Communism? Or the Third Reich? I did not know that.
  13. You mean like all those Democrats who predicted vast environmental destruction if we allowed drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife refuge ?
  14. Walt, Nice job on maintaining your civility on this topic. The contradiction I see has to do with people who put themselves out there as open, accepting, non-judgemental, tolerant progressives, but who feel completely justified in attacking those who express opinions dramatically different from their own. IOW There are quite a few "liberals" who are raging bigots.
  15. Sometimes I think you just put it out there to see if anyone will validate some pretty out there points. Do you really think sectarian violence could increase equally whether we are there or not? By "no more Darfurs" are you saying we should (or should have) do something about the genocide in Sudan (regardless of the policy of the UN)? Should we leave Iraq and at the same time insert ourselves into Sudan? Are you saying that staying in Iraq will result in just as much bloodshed as pulling out, creating a power vacuum and letting all the rival forces having at it?
  16. Here's an interesting piece: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/13/AR2007041301878.html
  17. I agree. When I started this I was hoping to start a new discussion, instead watching the usual suspects beat the same old dead horse. I intentionally referenced that dead horse, hoping people would leave it alone. Looks like the emotionalism is too strong to let it lie.
  18. When did you become a moderator? Pot, kettle... mirror.
  19. Apparently you missed this bit: "If THEY form a government that is a real threat to us.. then DESTROY them and let them start over". Germany and Italy declared war on the US on December 11, 1941. Japan attacked the US on December 7, 1941. Please pay attention. After you're done chastising others, perhaps you could address the questions of the OP.
  20. So what you're saying is you don't give a shit. We get it. Now... how about answering the question(s).
  21. What do you think would happen in the Middle East if we just cut bait? I'm not talking about the impact on US soldiers and military spending. That's pretty much a no-brainer. What would happen in that region? What would the subsequent ripple effects be to the rest of the world?
