Yes, it's just GREAT that the 44 million Americans with no health coverage are willing to go along so the drug company profits are maintained. All the major drug companies spend much less on R&D than they do on marketing and administration, and much less than they do on dividends to stockholders and compensation to execs. This whole business of sidestepping the obvious, main point... and going off on a tangent about an inferred minor point... and then going off on a tangent of that... Is it intentional? Or is a matter of just not being able to help yourself? I really like - "All the major drug companies spend much less on R&D than they do on marketing and administration, and much less than they do on dividends to stockholders and compensation to execs" WAAAAY off topic.

Are we? In what time frame? What are they, and how do they compare with the contributions of the rest of the world? Many of the most important medical breakthroughs in history came from outside the USA. And we think the FRENCH are arrogant??! I'm wondering if a good description of your post might be "smugly ignorant". Each year, more dollars are spent on bio-medical research in the US than in the rest of the World. If we implement a universal healthcare program, we can kiss a good chunk of those profit-driven research dollars good bye.

Water Sewage Military Roads Air Traffic Control I guess you're right; not a single thing. All of these, except military, are directly funded by taxes/fees, paid by the beneficiaries. Are you supporting a pay-as-you-go universal healthcare program?

While the claim that "federally run government programs would be more effiecient if privated" is hard to prove... mainly because there aren't good examples to compare... it's pretty obvious that the federal government generally does a crappy job of managing its programs. Turning over something as critical as healthcare is a scary proposition.

Ha ha, very funny. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is controlled by a board of Bush appointees. Pretty lame reason to get all riled up. Try again. Nice strawman. Going with your little strawman, are you implying that the Bush appointed CPB board dictates content (particularly politically sensitive programs) on NPR and PBS? What don't you understand about the word "control"? What does this have to do with the main point of the OP? Did you even read the linked story?

Obviously, you've thought this through and have a good read on the big picture. Do you also think there shouldn't be any restrictions on doing business with drug cartels and terrorist organizations? We still do business with Saudi Arabia, don't we? Israel? What's your point? -
These displays of looking outside of the box are remarkable.

What are you talking about? -
Oooo, George the monkey. That's a new one. Did you come up with that all by yourself?

It's always nice to read how you directly address a given topic and succintly state your position.

I'm pretty sure industrial hemp, which has very little THC, is what was commercially produced throughout the 1700 and 1800s. It's not really the same stuff as Marijuana. The leading cause for it being outlawed had to do with its recreational use, not it's industrial one. It's recreational use gained prominence following the influx of Mexicans, in the early 1900s. Reefer Madness? It's a classic.

What are your thoughts on the recent selloff of the major stock indices?
-
I agree. End the embargo. It should have been done shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union, if not sooner. IMO the tricky part is doing it in a manner that the leadership on both sides can save face.

Your denial is quite telling Indeed. I love the implication that a US Senator stating she would vote to ban guns is merely a wacky idea with just a few supporters,... especially since she's not the only Senator voicing that sentiment. There are a lot of things about San Francisco and San Franciscans that are not remotely typical of the USA as a whole. I can see how someone would infer that Senator Chafee has no problem with rifles.

Your programming is complete. Dear benevolent and loving God, please bless this warrior so that he might send someone to smash his enemies to tiny bits, at thy mercy, and to give him the strength to vote for whichever pro-war candidate that prophet Limbaugh doth deem fit for endorsement. Amen. You're usually much more objective. Mocking those who point out the intolerance of (more than just a fringe group of) Muslims, smacks of ignorance. -

You seem intent on trying to make this relevant to current events and circumstances.... something in need of a solution. From an historical perspective it's pretty interesting and probably pretty embarassing for the Bush family. But this whole President Bush - Nazi connection (or comparison) is so played and yes... trivial, too.

Again, no disagreement. He is on the rolls somewhere, so his claims of Native American heritage are valid - sort of. It's about reading comprehension. -

I love how people trot out isolated incidents to imply a wider problem. Byrd's torture and death was roundly condemned. Anyone who thinks it's indicative race relations in this country is a moron. The burning of Rosewood was 85 years ago. The phrase "quite recent era" doesn't really apply. -
