  1. No-one says they were great. Really? Did you miss freethefly's "Pretty much the same as here in the U.S."? I was under the impression he referred to the quite recent era of lynchings, draggings, and sitting in the back of the bus. He did... in response to another matter. Nice sidetrack. Referring to it as a "quite recent era" was a nice touch, too. SSDD
  2. Wow. You definitely have some strong convictions. I scored - Romney 14, Thompson 11 On the low end I think it was Kuchinick -9

  4. Generally speaking, people are much more civil and accepting in real life. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt,.. even the most contentious internet flamesters.
  5. Really? I think it was his parlaying that one article into an entire book and then using that book to promote himself as a worthwhile public speaker.
  6. Especially the Kurds and the Shiites. Not very long ago white america had a problem with blacks (many still do). Police would routinely beat on them for sport in some parts of the USA. Now many Americans are enraged with hatred for Mexicans. As for the Kurds, the U.S. is just as responsible for what happened to them. The Kurds feel it to be true. http://home.cogeco.ca/~kurdistan1/17-1-04-opinion-naqishabandi-us-must-stop-meddling.html As for the Shiites, they seem to be the same as the Sunnis as they each want ultimate control over the other. They will never get along. They are to deep in their beliefs. Interesting comparrison; http://islamicweb.com/beliefs/cults/shia.htm How does this support your claim that they had no problem with Saddam?
  7. Alcohol is socially accpetable - being a raging drunk is not. Especially if it turns you into a serial chubby-chaser. Kidding. Or, a chubby cereal-chaser Not kidding Yeah. That piggin' out at 2am is always healthy.

  9. How about enabling the cherry picking of information to start a war? Of course maybe that wasn't so much for the war idea but more for the book deal and the medal Sorry you seem to have a problem with my post. Wasn't the CIA established to give the US an "off the books" weapon in the COLD WAR??? Seems like their autonomy ratcheted up a few notches after the Soviets started sending missiles to Cuba. This thread digression stemmed from someone asserting "Saddam was not the nicest guy but, when you compare him to what our own secret police do" That's DO. as in the present tense... not the Cold War nastiness from 20 to 60 years ago.
  10. Not refuting that the CIA has done many vile things, but what has it done to start wars, create death squads or install dictators since the end of the Cold War?
  11. It was a routine colonoscopy, not electron microscopy. Blues, Dave Did you come up with that all by yourself?
  12. Well, before the U.S. decided to invade and show off its latest weapons to prove that the U.S. can still kill a huge number of people without remorse, Iraqis had water, electricity, schools, universities, hospitals, fuel, food, medicine, no car bombings, children playing outside. Pretty much the same as here in the U.S.. Sure, Saddam was not the nicest guy but, when you compare him to what our own secret police do, there is not much difference. This kind of nonsense just blows me away.
  13. Bummer for those friends who were two months younger. Those guys really got hosed.
  14. No, but they did remove Pelosi, Reid, Rangle, Schumer and Clinton, and they are all doing fine I know you wanted to take a shot at a few Dems but that made no sense. Now if you had said that it was the Republican party and the Bush apologists who were up there blindly smooching away and ignoring everything that they used to stand for, then it would have made sense AND been a little funny. Most jokes have a bit of truth to them. Hmm.....but this one had a LOT of truth, so you may not find it that funny. Sorry. So... saying something like "too bad those 5 dems are unable to have the same test because their heads are in the way"... that might apply and might be funny? As always, context matters. IMO the crack in the OP set the bar pretty high. Good one.
  15. Don't know why... but when I see the title of this thread, I can't help thinking about... Steeempy! YOU EE-DEE-YOT!!!
  16. Depends on your frame of reference: If you insist on being geocentric, then the Sun is a correct answer too. If you don't insist, then both the Earth and the Moon both rotate about their common center of mass, and about the Sun, and about the center of the Galaxy, and... All this from "What rotates around the Earth?" Impressive.
  17. Sad to hear such disregard for accuracy Irony Scale - 10
  18. You contradict yourself. If you are doing 10 over and everybody has to go around you on the the right YOU are lollygagging. Get the fuck over rover.. I hate drivers like you. And I hate people who are too fucking stupid to get the obvious point. I said the left lane is full and eveyone is doing 10 mph over the speed limit.... as in everyone in the left lane is going as fast as conditions (like heavy traffic) allow. Not one person is keeping everyone from going faster. I'm talking about the dickheads who think it's okay to get in the right lane, speed up and then try to squeeze in a few cars up, typically causing several cars to brake. If everyone is keeping up, there's no need to be an ass.
  19. Were people saying the economy was is great shape? Or were they just pointing out that the Dow was making new all-time highs (even after discounting for inflation) and you inferred they meant "the economy is in great shape"? Where the hell are you getting these your numbers? I'm talking about actual revenues and whatever factors you're using for your "CORRECTED real compamparable figures"? How is year 7 of the Bush administration federal tax revenues shaping up? Oh... you mean during the blowoff top of THE BIGGEST BULL MARKET IN HISTORY? Tell me something, how many years after 1929 did it take for the federal revenues to surpass 1929 levels? How many years before the GDP make a new high?
  20. Right you are perfesser - They went down in 2001, 2002 and I think in 2003. Every year since then, they've climbed... quite dramatically, I think. I think 2006 revenues were about 20% higher than 2000 revenues. 2007 revenues are estimated to be 27% higher than 2000 revenues. Let's not overlook the fact the 2000 was the top of a booming, "bubbling" economy. Definitely an historical era.
  21. Just trying to respond to what is actually written versus what some people magically infer. Trying to respond to loaded questions based on NOTHING like - "So now you are claiming that we did in fact drill in ANWR and there was only minimal environmental damage?" does get old. You too.
  22. I think it was easier for the Dems to attack the Iraq policy when they were out of power. Now that they control Congress, it seems to be a lose/lose proposition for them. "So, do you think we should pull out of Iraq, effectively making the lives lost and billions spent irrelevant, as well as contributing to major instability in the Middle East?" The Reps got us into this mess, but now that the Dems control the legislature, the onus is on them. Not an enviable position.
  23. Anyone caught rubbernecking, especially if it's just a car sitting on the shoulder, will be fined $500.00! $200.00 fine for anyone lolligagging in the left lane. Anyone trying to do a right lane power pass because the left lane is full (and everybody is cruising at 10mph over) should be sent to a federal prison for a night or two.
