Go Newt! Is this a prelude to announcing his entry into the '08 presidential race? His kind of conservatism could be just what the GOP needs to reunite the party.

so jaded... so myopic.

Someone call the Whaaaaaaaaaaaambulance, STAT! Yeah. Quite your whining, Doc. Get back in there and take care of all those freeloaders who think government funded healthcare is an undeniable, guaranteed right. It says so in the Constitution. Lucky for you, there is plenty of room in the whaaaaaaaambulance. I missed the part where it says "to the highest bidder" in the Hippocratic Oath. Still waiting for someone to show how the oil companies keep gas prices artificially high. Wasn't it you whining about that? Conspiracy theories - reality for the delusional.
-
Well, you get the unflinching support of the 'patriots'. Half right.
-
Okay, let's just limit it to the present. What's the deal with the violence between the Shiites and the Sunnis? They're both Muslim, yet they're not really about embracing/accepting one another. How many hundreds of thousands of Christians have been killed by Muslims, in southern Sudan, over the past 25 years? What is policy in Saudi Arabia for non-Muslims openly practicing their faith? Isn't it imprisonment. How many churches have been burned in Indonesia in the last 10 years? How about homes and stores owned by Christians? Blasphemy laws in Pakistan? And then there's that whole Israel vs. Egypt, Syria, Iran, etc that's been going on for 60 years. Islam is the only religion to accept other religions? Riiiight.

Have you noticed that the 'not my body parts' folks tend to be the same ones who have a long history of of strenuous objection to just about any sort of help or compassion to those in need (e.g child health care, disaster victims) and are the same folks who have been ardent neo-cons? You have all the data you need to define where their narrow, self-serving sense of values lie. Speaking of narrow and self-serving, this post^^^ is a prime example.

How about the relevant content of the link? Is any of it untrue? Or are you just going for the "shoot the messenger" tactic?

Exceptions. I am sure many people use and abuse Islam just as many abuse other religions. But at the source Islam is the only religion to accept Christianity, Judaism, and also the 1000+ other profits they believe came before Mohammed. I can’t speak for how every government acts, but I can speak for Iran as I had many Christian friends, not only were there rights respected, they are in no way ignored. Also in a dry country as most Islamic countries are there right to drink wine is respected. (Might not seem like a big deal but in an Islamic society it is) This link tells a different story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_persecution_by_Muslims

Hey... let's put jenfly in charge of deciding what is important or valid or relevant. She really seems to have an uncanny knack for putting herself in other's shoes and empathizing with their situation. And so fair-minded. Let's make it official. "I'm jenfly. I'm the decider."

Excellent point. I'll second that. Oh, okay. How about those that refuse to purchase health insurance will not be able receive financial support for healthcare? Or does this kind of exclusion not jibe with your sense of entitlement?

Interesting post, Bill. You go from: he entirely missed all of the fatwas and statements by organizations and individuals in the 466 items that come up in a search of MAE on the site. and We have collected 105 fatwas from Islamic scholars, 75 statements by Islamic Organizations (many of these signed by anywhere from 50 to 500 scholars from around the world), and 142 statements by individual Muslims. These are from 30 countries including: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Britain, Chechnya, Egypt, France, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mauritania, Morocco, New Zealand, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, UAE, U.S. and Yemen. to: Some directly condemn al-Qaeda and bin Laden, and specific acts like 9/11 or the Madrid bombing. Throw out a bunch of big numbers about generalized opposition to violence and then say "some directly condemn al-Qaeda" How many is "some"? Classic bait and switch.

Gee you dont seem to have a problem with it when the Presidents henchmen do it so your Imperious Leader does not have to listen to a discouraging word http://www.yourleaders.org/george_w_bushs_presidential_advance_manual When will you be pulling " RALLY SQUAD" duty ???? Is this one of those "pay no attention to my behavior, look at what the other side is doing" scenarios?

Nice rant Darius. You made some good points. While I try not to buy into the negative stereotypes that get directed at Muslims and Islam, I have read a number of stories (mostly about the Middle East and northern Africa), claiming that non-Muslims are treated like secondclass citizens (or even like livestock) when it comes to rights and legal protections... that assaults on non-Muslims are not punishable offenses... that possession of holy books other than Koran is against the law. Are these stories I read just cherry picked exceptions or are they the norm? I recall reading about across-the-board intolerance in Saudi Arabia. Is that true? Do other countries practice the same?

Oh, I hate this kind of corporate welfare. Building stadiums on the taxpayer dime is a sleazy power grab. What I question is whether funding that stadium prevented the necessary repairs to that bridge from being financed. Kallend's OP implied as much. Correlation does not prove causation.

Okay - howa bout limiting it to the people who actually participate in these discussions? The same level of hostility applies to those non-religious types. Most Christians don't practice the intrusive kind of proselytism that antitheists like to use as a stereotype. Many of these anti-Christian types act as if they're constantly being bombarded with hell-fire, damnation messages on a regular basis. I live in the bible belt. Outside of attending church and occassionally coming across something while channel-surfing, I rarely hear any preaching. Seems like some the regular bashers are just waiting for an excuse to play the angry victim card. -

I would say so. Always wondered why such Christians, who claimed to be pure believers in Holy Lord And Savior Jesus go to doctor when they got sick? In my opinion if you really believe in Jesus Almighty, you should go to your church and pray Jesus, not go to doctor who knows that people's ancestors were monkeys. And taking pills must be considered a betrayal for Jesus as well. You're on a troll roll, today. -

The author of the study cited above has since finished another study that concluded: From the article I read, he was booed when he announced his findings at an International AIDS Conference. Apparently, talk of abstinence is taboo at these gatherings. Personally, I believe safe sex should be taught and abstinence should be promoted. Leave religion out of it, but discuss the downfalls of early sex and discourage its practice. It's too bad so many people are inflexible on this matter.

I'm pretty sure they all were very public about their faith. Which one do you need specifics on? I assume that you have some sort of references or documentation that any of the people I mentioned bought into these superstitions. I wonder what people experience that would cause them to have such an irrational, unfounded view of faith. Maybe I'm reading you wrong, but what you say comes across as flat out, unapologetic BIGOTRY. -
Love the "entitlement mentality" in this thread. Seems like a lot of people think they have some right to take from others, if there is a perceived need. Where to did this right come from?

If I were in an asylum, and all I ever did all day long was draw clouds on the wall in my own feces, and I never showed any propensity for violence or anger, does it make me any less crazy? Yeah, just like those whackos... Just because you don't start illegal wars, or murder millions of people doesn't mean you aren't bat-shit crazy. It just means you aren't dangerous. I am a firm believer in science. And I also believe that people that 'talk to god' instead of just forming a prayer and sending it off with no return receipt are delusional. It is the ultimate existentialism to believe that god talks to you. The same sort of egocentric world view that makes people pick names for themselves such as 'dropdgeorgeous'. Love the upfront bigotry. At least you're honest about it. -

Mother Teresa, Pope John Paul, etc, etc... yup, all those whackos like that, huh? Galileo, Copernicus, Pascal, Napier, Newton, Kepler... All small-minded, wackos, no doubt. -
